The C. H. Express, of Seaforth were the A Champions, beating the Elora Farmers 2.0 in the final game of the tournament. The tournament is sponsored jointly by the Goderich Oarsmen and Goderich Harbour Lites broomball teams. (photo by Dave Sykes ) Midgets improve but lose 4=3 The Goderich Legion Midgets lost another game Wednesday by a closet- 3 margin. Goderich played an improved game but there were still some weak points, especial- ly in their own end. On the positive side the team finally brought down its penalty total and only sergd five minor penalties. Goderich tallied the first goal at 11:05 of the first period, on a goal by Shawn Larder, assisted by Ron Chapman and Jim Beattie. Midway through the period Exeter tied the score. Early in the second period, Exeter explod- ed for three straight goals. The first two goals were scored thirteen seconds apart, with the third .goal coming a minute and fifty-nine seconds later. Fifty seconds later, Richard Boddy scored Goderich's second goal, assisted by Tom Bean. At 10:58 of the period, Jim Beattie scored on a fine unassisted effort to make the score 4 - 3. Neither team scored in the third period, even though Goderich had several good op- portunities to tie the score. The team's next game is tonight, in St. Marys and they play Exeter in Goderich on Saturday, December 22, 1984. Unfortunately for the Midgets, their scheduled exhibition game with a team from Norway on January 4, 1985 has been cancelled, as Norway has cancelled its trip to Ontario. Atoms play to 3-3 draw with St. Marys Goderich Atoms battled St. Marys to a 3-3 draw, in a draniatic Shamrock League hockey game, played December 15, in St. Marys. • After St. Marys scored the only goal of the first period, Goderich struck for two before five minutes had elapsed in the second frame. Jason Jeffrey scored the fi,rst Goderich marker, assisted by' Jamie Stanley. Jason Cook snared the other second period goal,. assisted by Jeff Beange. Goderich went ahead early in the third period. A nifty three-way passing play resulted in the goal, when Paul Wheleler passed to Shawn Carver, who mad a perfect pass onto t e stick of Andrew McLarty, who made no mi4ake in finding the net. The lead was short-lived, as St. Marys scored again, just 30 seconds later and both teams went scoreless the rest of theway. ATOM HOUSE LEAGUE Goderich beat Exeter 2-0, in an Atom House League game played December 15, in Exeter. Exeter scored the first goal, in the second period, but Goderich scored twice in the third frame, to secure the win. • Andrew Scott scored both Goderich goals, with Drew MacAuley assisting on one. Jamie Redmond tended the twine for Goderich. On December 10, the Goderich Atom Blues bombarded the Whites 11-3. Jeff Kent led the Blues with four goals, while Andrew Scott and Drew MacAuley each contributed a hat trick. Lions topSt.Marys' Goderich Lions Pee Wee's handled the hometown first -place St. Marys Pee Wee's 5 - 3, in a very exciting contest last Saturda Tim Harrison was the offensive spark fo Goderich, tallying three times and assisting on one other. Brian Lane' notched two goals and assisted on one. Chris O'Neill had two assists, while Doug Rivers, Kevin Moss and Jeff Hodges had single assists. The Lions, short two regular defencemen, got solid performances from Jason Pearson, Aaron Duckworth, Jeremy Grasby and Kevin Moss, as well as an outstanding per- formance from Bob Lumley in goal, that bled the Lions to old their 5 -1 lead.until la 1 in the game. s Saturday, the Lions take on Exeter, in Goderich before breaking for the turas holidays. Sunset leads league Scoring was the key, as the Goderich Recreational Hockey League completed the first half of its schedule last week. On Monday, December 10, Ernies Roadhouse continued their drive for the top, with a 9 - 4 win over Clere-Vu Rockets. Terry Shoemaker two goals, two assists, Mark Rowe two goals, and Greg Beaeom two goals, counted for Ernies. John Van Lou replied with two goals for Clere-Vu. In the late game, the Bedford Flyers beat a manpower -short Murphy's 9 - 6. Mark Frayne had a good night with one goal and_ two assists and Brian Moody added two . ' goals and two assists for the Flyers. Dennis Dowhanick netted a pair of goals for the Green Machine. The Wednesday night game saw Sunset Golf pound Ultramar 16 - 5. Kevin Merriam seven goals, one assist and Jim Farrish one goal, seven assists led the onslaught for Sunset . Dale Duncan two goals, two assists, Brian Allen two goals, two assists, Paul Dougherty one goal, two assists and Wayne Rau one goal, two assists finished of the scoring. Sunday morning in Clinton, the Clere-Vu Rockets outlasted O'Briens 9 - 8. Greg Burns netted four goals and added one assist for the Rockets. Dan Duncan had three goals and one assist and Larry Gaynor two goals, two assists in a losing effort for O'Briens. The night game in Clinton saw Hodges totally dominate Ultramar 19 - 5. Everybody counted points for Hodges. Hat tricks were scored by Travis Postill, Paul Priestap and Tom Sinnet. Bob Mombersteg added one goal and four assists. St. Marys led 1-0 at the end of the first period. Another goal, just 26 seconds into the se- 1� cond fram, gave St. Marys a 2-0 lead. However, Goderich bounced back shortly after, with a goal from, Bryan Hodges, assisted by Jason Meriam. In the third period, Goderich evened the score, when Jason Meriam scored from Bryan Hodges. Goderich went ahead 3-2, at the 4:44 mark, with a goal from Jeff Klagee, assisted by Derek Gilchrist. St. Marys tied up the game at 11:18 and although Goderich tried desperately to break the tie, it just couldn't be done. Goderich was on a clear-cut breakaway when the buzzer ended the game.
