Courthouse Park display grows this year What started out as one animated Christmas display in Courthouse Park last year has now grown to six. However, that number may have to grow to at least 15 or 20 before it becomes an effective drawing card for tourists, says Rob Sherwood. Sherwood, a member of the Goderich Kinsmen Club and a local tour bus operator who has transported thousands of people to famous Christmas displays in other com- munities, convinced his fellow Kinsmen to erect the first display in Courthouse Park last year. Encased in, glass and raised off ground level, it features an animated Santa and Mrs. Claus checking over their Christmas list: This year that display was joined by a large snowman erected by Legion Branch 109; a miniature candy cane cement mixer erected by the Rotary Club; Canterbury Carollers erected by the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority: a miniatiirp clpivh with hr,r,.s pulling a man and woman, erected by the Kinettes; and the Santa Claus float used in the town's parade, set up by the Kinsmen. Sherwood said he hopes to have a meeting in June to involve the rest of the service clubs for next year. He would then like to get some of the churches involved in setting up nativity -theme displays. Eventually, cor- porate and individual displays will • be welcome too but Sherwood says the whole project must be done in organized stages so .11 'BLUE DIAMOND ALMONDS 170g. $r2'I • TOFFIFAY 391 g DOWNY SUPER CONCENTRATE 500 ml. $, 99 DEL MONTE SLICED PINEAPPLE 227 m1.F $ O1 R • PITCHER and TRAY $799 • SET CELEBRATION BISCUITS 700 g PHOTO '7 In Store Photofinishing n before 3 p.m Same day service Joyous-- wishes oyous-wishes fora happy Holiday. Although it will take awhile for the number of displays to grow large enough to draw the interest of winter tourists, Sher- wood feels the project is now serving another need by bringing the town's service clubs closer together. "This is an inter -club project, one that gets everyone involved," he explains. To date, comments on the displays have been positive. Expensive and tastefully done, they are quite professional looking. And with a backdrop of trees and snow, Courthouse Park will lend a perfect setting to the entire project when it is completed. Information was given in regard to the Huron Day Centre for the Homebound. A let- ter from Erland Lee, (Museum) Home was read and their program for 1985 noted. At- tention will be given to this at next meeting. Information was given in regard to the 4-H course, "Fitness Fare" just completed. Helen Riehl and Mary Lou Clements will lead the next 4-H project also which will be "Action Wear", a sewing class starting the end of January or early in February. Anyone interested in this course, would be welcome but get in touch with the leaders early in January at the latest.
