Kids and Christmas.
The two are literally inseparable.
And there is a certain magic and
ethereal quality to Christmas that will
light up a child's eyes at the mere 'mention
of the holiday.
Of course, every child lives for and
dreams about that once -a -year visit from
the jolly old man from the North Pole. But
when you're a kid, December also just
happens to be the longest month of the
year.
Just talk to kids about Christmas and
Santa Claus and it's difficult not come
away with a new and refreshing
perspective. They inject a welcome and
overwhleming enthusiasm into the spirit of
the holiday season. They're outlook is
simply contagious.
If you're four year-old Christopher Hind -
marsh, Christmas is the absolute 'time of
year and he wasn'tthe least bit shy talking
about it. Christopher loves "everything"
about the holiday and what makes
Christmas special at his house is
"decorating the tree."
But if you live' at Christopher's house,
Christmas comes pretty early in the morn-
ing because he says, "I wake up, not even
when there is any light outside and open up
presents." •
Despite his penchant for getting. up ear-
ly, Christopher has yet to see Santa
because "he sneaks in so fast."
Three-year old Ryan Wilson is lucky to
be celebrating Christmas at all, what with
the problems he's been encountering at
home trying to hang the stockings. While
Ryan admitted Christmas is special
because he "gets toys" he's had more
substantial matters on his mind these
days.
"We had a problem at our house. Well,
actually we had two problems," he ex-
plains thrusting two fingers in my face.
"The problem Was hanging the stockings.
We tried to hang the stockings on the
stereo but we couldn't put the other hook
on but we soon found a spot where we could
put it."
Ryan hopes Santa brings a host .of
Masters of the Universe stuff while adding
in the same breath; "I'll tell you what. My
Cabbage Patch Kid u named Mark and
he's my favorite."
While he may be only ee years -old,
Richard Million is into he- : n y one
of this Cabbage Patch , busi for him,
Richard says he like "prese the best"
and he's looking for Santa to drop off a He -
Man action figute at his house and a He-
man sword too.
For Christopher Wise, 4, Christmas is
special because it is the time 'pf year
"when Santa Claus comet." And
Christopher is rather partial to the old
fellow from the north 'cause "he brings me
presents."
But more than just a time for gifts,
Christmas means that Christopher gets to
hang "stockings and decorations" at home
and it also means he gets "to my
gandpa's and grandma's house."
You have to go to sleep and you can't
peek at your presents, four year-old Nicole
Crete explained, otherwise, you won't get
toys and things from Santa Claus.
As best as Nicole can remember, Santa
comes to her house, sometimes, and while
Christmas is special at her house, she said,
"I don't remember whata do." She does
like Christmas, however, fo s and can-
dy canes.
Not unlike a lot of other youngsters, four
year-old Elissa Ball can think of nothing
better than getting a Cabbage Patch Doll
from Santa Claus for Christmas.
Elissa has already "put up stockings
where her wall is" arid says that
Christmas is special at the Ball household
because "somebody comes over to see us,
her name is Jenny and she has a baby and
we make a cake."
Regardless of the reasons, when you're
three and four years old, Christmas is
something sepcial. And , of course, so is
Santa Claus.
Merry Christmas!
