GODERIC I 1 NAI STAR, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19,1 Abortion is murder reader says.. Dear editor,. AS we all know, the younger generation of today is faced with far, more decisions. The future holds for us,'a degree of mucic higher specialization in our skills and education than was ever held before. Yet we have becor;net unlike our preceding epoch, a generation who does not takeaction on that which we have learned. We do not convert our newly -found knowledge into something visible. Rather, we sit back and hope others will take the initiative. A great dilemma facing today's youth concerns the battle of morality and accep- tability of abortion. Today's media - televi- sion, radio, books, magazines, music - stresses the need to express one's inner emotions physically. The most manifested way In doing so is through sex. In today's society, the meaning of sex has been blown far out of proportion. Either,it has become a subject tabooed in the home and school, or it turns to the other extreme, and is degraded by filth and violence. Both of these views create an unhealthy environ- ment. As our youth becomes more sexually ac- tive at a younger age, society - parents in- cluded - tends to treat them in two manners: the individual is shunned because of his sullied reputation, or he/she is accepted as part of the norm because he/she is part of the new era and no longer are categorized LFTTERS Nosimmoimmmomir under "the old fashioned ways." Yet, what do we do with these teenage (some pre -teen) girls who become pregnant - that is the word, isn't it? Either they have an abortion out of fear of probable familial con- sequences (or the mother discreetly shuffles her daughter off to a back -street abortioni to save face) or the girl decides to have t child. As a female teenager myself, I have great resprect for those girls who choose to have their babies. I feel that years later when they look back on -their "mistake", a great burden of guilt will be lifted off their shoulders when they see that they have done something right and just, instead of adding to their wrong -doing. Thus, they are able to deepen their sense of self-worth and self- confidence. I believe that there is a God and that not everything - ha , a scientific origin. I also believe that He created each and every one of us to serve a role on earth, no matter how menial it may be. But I fail to fathom why He created Dr. Henry Morgentaler. Dr. Morgentaler himself is a hypocrite. He is a survivor of Auschwitz - a Jewish ex-. Demand creates service Dear Editor; 1 Because of the misuse of drugs in our society, the conditions concerning abortion have drastically changed from forty to fifty years ago. All echelons of society have been affected. It is obvious that our legal system has not been able to cope with the illicit influx of the drug traffic. It is my opinion that one can become innocently involved with drugs. Because of this fact, the abortion laws should be amended in a manner that would coincide with the situation. Wherever there is a demand, there's going to be a service, legitimate or not. I sincerely hope that the government becomes aware of this. Either abortion is legal or it is not; we cannot have it11both ways. opr. Morgentaler is supplying a service to a demand. If it was stopped, conditions may well regress to an underground condition that was practised in back rooms by medical quacks, who were not qualified to perform this service. Because of this, many young mothers lost their lives, or had a physical malady until corrected by a qualified physician. I believe our society has been largely responsible because of the stigma that is attached to a child born out of wedlock. The young mothers who had the gumption to keep and raise their child, deserve a great deal of credit acid respect. It's a public con- fession to the world that they made a mistake and are willing to rectify it, and that two wrongs do not make a right. Sincerely, N.J. Minaker heist's identity debated Dear editor, The writer, Chris C. Wicher, in his article in the December 5 issue of your paper states on line 4, paragraph 4. "We find the Son of God." Then on paragraph 5 in its last two lines he speaks of "a God who cares for us enough ' to become one of us in Mary's child." Consequently the question arises: "Was Jesus -"the Son of God", or was Jesus "God" himself? The Bible answer to this question is sim- ple and. plain: The very familiar text at John 3:16 says: 7For GOD so loved the world that He gave HO only -begotten Son...", Matthew 3:17 has God speaking from heaven. "This is my beloved Son...". Matthew 14:34 has the men in the boat saying: "Of a truth, thou art the Son of trod." Matthew 27:54 has the cen- Stuck for a Christmas Gift? Vouchers now on sale! At the second letter of John we read: "(v.3) "Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love." (RSV) Clergymen themselves who continue to advance such inconsistencies are themselves responsible for the "smog", "uncertainty and doubt" of today. The only "landmark" which guides us", as Chris- tians, should be God's Word, the Bible, of which Jesus prayed: "Sanctify them in the truth, thy word is truth." (John 17:17. RSV) Sincerely yours C.F. Yet, he has some ungodly ability to turn his cheek and wreak death on 18,000 helpless, unborn babies last year (1983) alone. How can he face himself, let 'alone others, and not questions his motives, actions and self-worth? How can he live with it when even I am incapable of dealing with this pretense? I sincerely believe that abortion is murder. If our Canadian government passes amendment allowing abortion, what will it low next? Will we obliterate our elderly t , because they are in our way of pro- . gress? Remember, over one-half of Canada's population is comprised'of elderly people. Shall we "abort" them in order to synthesize a better society for ourselves? To all pro -abortionists, I put to you these questions: 1) What is the definition of "pregnancy"? 2) What is the meaning of "miscarriage"? 3) Explain to me what was meant when Morgentaler's defense attorney said it would be "immoral" to not accept abortion? 4) What was the original intent ( and still is, I think) of,fabricating the Birth Control Pill and other forms of contraception? Heritage... from the Staff at • from page 4 benefit us all—the schools could make better use of the Museum facilities, and we all would have the chance for added recreation and education. This project director would also be in charge of finding grant monies—money that is now not available to us as it has been stipulated for specific programs that we have not been able to implement as yet. It recommends the implementation of satellite museums around the county; these displays could be set up in schools orstores, or in a permanent place in the various areas of our county; they would be administered by the Museum staff and changed periodically. This would bring the Museum closer to each community as the displays could be tailored for specific topics. Another recommendation is that the ar- chives be housed at the Museum. This would greatly facilitate research that is done on this area, and would consolidate our historical documents all in one place. As I have noted, the amount of money in- volved is large, but when we break it down into the different shares for different areas, we feel it is certainly a very manageable amount. Our Museum occupies a very special place in Huron County. It truely houses a treasure trove of our history, and as such we should do all we can to preserve it. We are a relatively young county and sometimes are tempted to discount the value of some of our pioneer artifacts. These . pieces will be treasured by our descendents. Let us not be remembered as the generation who threw away our heritage • Sincerely, Bonnie Dunn, Chairman of the Volunteers.
