It was a "battle of the giants" between
this .year's undefeated player, Ben
Stadelmann, and last year's club cham-
pion, Doug Brindley. Both players were in
top form, as the game advantage swayed
back and forth. Doug eventually gained
the upper hand and Ben succumbed to his
first loss of the season. Later in the even-
ing, Ben declared that it was "Black
Wednesday" after newcomer Richard
Bennett dealt him another blow! Even
Louis, the other half of the dynamic
Stadelmann duo, was unable to overcome
Eric Hallam's aggressive play. It was
good, solid chess all the way.
The other main item is Dave Brown's
first victory, which he scored over Mike
Cox. Veteran club member Kirk Lyndon
split two games. Barry Page, Walter
Gottschalk and Robert Nau had a good
evening, each picking up two wins. Bob
Dick is cl on the heels of the top spot
contended -find John Crawford continues
to be a strong force. Call Doug Brindley at
n4-8674 for all club details.

time a goal has been scored against them.

have won three of their last four games.
It was an especially satisfying triumph for
Brussels as they had only nine players for
the game. Barb Bragg score the game's
only goal for Brussels. with fi minutes re-
maining in the first period, set up by
Patricia Willie. Brussels' defence made the
one goal lead stand up as they slowed the
game down and received strong goaltending
from Sandra Morrison, who posted her
fourth shutout.
In further action on December 6, two over-
time goals by Karen Souch lifted Auburn to
a 2 - 0 victory over the Goderich Har-
bourlites. Betty Jane Foran picked up an
assist in the game for Auburn, while Yvonne
Cronyn, 'and Gwen Fisher recorded the
shutouts in regulation time.
Kevin Falconer's 6th shutout of the
season, lifted Blyth Bears to a 3 - 0 win over
the Blyth Inn Bandits. Larry Sowerby
scored a pair of goals for the Bears and Len
Kohnert picked up a single while Garry
Nicholson and Randy Lammerant added
single assists.
A hat trick by Arnold Pease led the 8th
Liners to a 6 - 1 triumph over the Auburn
Falcons. Also scoring for the 8th Liners
were David Souch, Gordon Machan and
Dave Linton. In the assist department Herb
Govier led the winners with two, while Ken
Bird, Gordon Machan and Jim Blake added
one apiece. Elwyn Brindley set up Ron
Snyder for the Falcons' lone goal.
Gordon Kemp and Glenn McLean both
recorded shutouts in regulation time, before
the Lanesville Lords prevailed 2 - 1 in over-
time against the Goderich Oarsmen. Tom
Smith set up Rick Powell to give the
Oarsmen the lead 15 seconds into overtime.
One minute later Greg Hackett tied- the
game for Lanesville and with just twenty-
six seconds left Jim Van Osch set up Greg
Hackett for the game winner.
On December 4, single goals by Terry
Sowerby 'and Don Nicholson carried the
Blyth Bears to a 2 - 0 victory over the
Goderich Oarsmen.
Marg Anderson's goal from Cheryl
Walker, with just one second remaining in
overtime led Sparlings to a narrow 1- 0 win
over the Blyth Baintoneers. Sue Kolkman
and Brenda Powell recorded the shutouts in
regulation play.
A power play goal by Doug de Boer with
five minutes left in the game lifted the
Lakelet Hornets to a 2 - 1 triumph over the
Lanesville Lords. Phil Black had given the
Hornets a 1 - 0 first period lead before Steve
Howard tied the game, early in the second
frame.
