That's the question these players seem to be asking, as they crowd into the goal -crease, during a Junior C hockey game between the Clinton Mustangs and the Port Merry Ch ris tmas Elgin Bears. The Bears won the game, played Friday night in Goderich, by a 10-5 count, after exploding for six goals in the third period. ' Scott Garrow scored the first goal for Goderich, at 4.38 of the second period, with a couple of nice moves and a sharp pass from Byron Bowman. The second goal was scored by'1'erry Panabecker with a hard wrist shot from j t inside the blue line at 10.05 of the second. was the go-ahead goal which started th Goderich team on its way. The Goderich line of Whetstone, Garrow and Darren Stanbury scored an all category record of three goals in 22 seconds, in the Clinton Optimist Tournament, the weekend of Novemeber 29th. Novices win first home game 6-1 The Novice "A" team travelled to Strathroy on December 1 and 2 to compete in a Novice Tournament. On December 1, the first game was played against Mooretown. Mooretown defeated Goderich 5-0. In the second game, Goderich defeated Watford 6-2. Bryan Hodges scored two goals for Goderich, one unassisted and the other assisted by Jason Meriam. Jason Meriam also scored two goals for Goderich, both unassisted. Ken McLarty scored from Mike McBride and Jeff Volland; and Jeff Klages scored from Lee Williamson to round out the Goderich scoring. This win qualified the team to return to the tournamei on December 2. The local Novices defeated Thedford 5-0 that day, led by Bryan Hodges' hat trick. One of his goals was unassisted. He was assisted on the other two by David Lumley and Jason Meriam. Other goals were scored by Jeff Klages assisted by Lee Williamson and Jeff Volland assisted by Jason Meriam. The boys then -played against Strathroy for the consolation championship. It was a very close exciting game with the score tied at 2-2 at the end of the first period. The Novice "A" team hosted Lucan Saturday, December 8 and won decisive 6- 1 for their first "homeice" victory. Goderich opened the scoring midway through the first period when Bryan Hodges got a goal, assisted by David Lumley. In the second period, Goderich added two more goals when Ken McLarty scored from Mike 'McBride and Hodges scored again, this time unassisted. The third period saw goals tallied by Ken McLarty assisted by Jeff Volland; David Lumley assisted by Jason Meriam; and Lumley again, unassisted. Lucan's lone marker, breaking Goderich's bid for a shut -out, came with 1:52 left in the game when Jeff Campbell, assisted by Shawn Fairweather, finally got past goaltender Chris Lyndon. Lyndon shared goaltending duties with Dirk Wolterbeek. Both goalies made excellent saves throughout the game. Atoms whip Lucan 7-1 The Goderich Atoms won two games on the weekend, whipping Lucan 7-1, here Saturday and topping Exeter 3-1, in a Sun- day road game. Goaltender Chuck MacLennan was outstanding between the pipes for Goderich Saturday, letting in only one first -period est of the goal and stonewalling Lucan t game. Todd Papple led the scoring pa e for Goderich, with a hat trick. Andrew cLarty scored two and Jared Whalen and Jason Jef- frey netted singles, with Jeffrey also credited with an—assist. Also assisting on goals were: Mark Phillips, with' two and Jason Conk,. Chad Papple, Shawn Carver and Donnie Rivers. Jeff Beange led the way for Goderich in Sunday's game, with a two -goal perfor- mance, while Jason Jeffrey netted the other marker. Jason Hayter earned two assists and Shawn Carver was credited with one. Jason Duckworth and Chuck MacLennan were solid in the Goderich net. ATOM HOUSELEAGUE Goderich blanked Mitchell 11-0 in an Atom Houseleague game, played December 8, in Goderich. Goaltender Jamie Redmond recorded the shutout for Goderich. Andrew Scott scored four goals and one assist for Goderich. Drew MacAuley scored twice; Brian Lamb, Jason Lajeunesse, Trevor Bazinet, and David Boyce all scored one goal and one assist; James McDade scored one goal; Jeff Phelan, Scott Mathieson and Jeff Kent, all assisted on one goal. - In local Atom Houseleague action, White defeated Blue 2-1 in a December 3 contest. Blue opened the scoring on a goal by Drew MacAuleyassisted by James McDade and Ryan McClinchey. Jason Lajeunesse and Trevor Bazinete scored for White. Assisting were: Jason Duckworth Scott Creamer, Derek Stinson and Brian Lamb. belles split pair of games The Goderich Belles split a pair of ringette games with Stratford, in Goderich on November: -25.., After winning the first game, a 10-4 blowout, Goderich was edged by the visitors 8-7 in game two. In game one, Stacey Rean scored four goals and assisted one one, for Goderich; Allison Graham scored three, Angie Chisholm scored two goals and one assist and Debbie O'Brien scored one goal and assisted on three. Vicky Vanderburgh and Lori McCartney each assisted on a pair; while Marianne Glazier and Debbie Habel each assisted on one goal.
