SILOS FINDVNG FAVOR Weekly Sun says the new , silos built bb the farmers of Ontario would stretch '22 miles if placed end to end, There were said to be 3,500 put up in 1914, This advance should mean much to the butter and cheese supply to say nothing about improved Wil— d i Lions oil-ditions in feeding• the stock. I've licked a dozen stamps for tele- grams I've sent; I've licked and stunk one on the cheque with .which I've paid the rent. I 'licked a stamp to paste upon a note which I renewed, and then I licked another one to make the mortgage good. I've licked these 'stamps to show that I will do my best the H'un' to cheek; and now I'd like to lick the man who trails to pat one on his cheque. r CLOSE 'WEDNESDAY. An enquirs at Harvey Bros. mill elicited the fact that a number of farmers who had finished harvest had called during the da3. It- w'as expected that mans more would finish up before the Sabbath. Those who did not were subject to a •delay as this 'section was again visited be rain Sunday night and. Monday. WV'eeve.re shown a cou- ple o:C samples of new .itvheat, one which had been harvested in good shape and another that had started to .sprout. By ttctualicount about 25 per cent of the latter was damaged. The rest was a beautiful sample and would have tested high. The sprout- ed wheat can be cleaned out and will come for 'feed. The loss .to the farmers will be quite heavy but those. in this section hive been very ;for- tunate in 'herveeting their grain in comparison with ,nary other locali- ties.. The prospects here were fox' a ibumber crop and 'some fields gave, evidence of heavy yields. As it is the crop should be a good average one. Last 3' ear a lot of young cat- tle were shipped from_ this section to the 'United States but the proba- bilities :are, now that more ,cattle will be fed" this winter. One of the pe- ciuliar ,'Clings in connection with the recent :rains was the manner in which ,thea fell, locall=y. On one occasion when ,the residents, along the Main street were deluged with rani the residents on the `vest side of the toWn were notdriven to cover. On the London Road, south, one of our tin- smiths was earetrong'hing a barn when a gentle spinke came down 'Or a neighboring farm a limner drawing a load into the barn was drenched while those in the field Dilated on not being'visitetl b3'; the' main. In some places owing to the soaking rains it was impossible to run a binder the ground being so soft. , Near Zurich the discarded cradle was again brought into use with good results. . farmer ubout three miles tvest ,of Elensell brought his binder to town last week end Connor Machine Co. installed an engine on it to run the machinery. A couple of planits were ran through the frame and the en- gine attached to the gearing. This left for the horses only the work of drawing the binder around the field, the engine doing the cutting. The engine gave good satisfaction rind the farmer has been able to save his' crop.
