Knox Missionary Society studies Africa
Knox Women's Missipnary Society met in
Knox Presbyterian Church parlor on Tues-
day, November 20. The president, Mrs. R.
McAllister, opened the meeting by reading
the 23rd Psalm as it is written in a modern
translation.
Following the hymn, "Jesus Shall Reign"
and prayer, the president introduced Mrs. J. '
Campbell, secretary of "Glad Tidings" for
Stratford Huron Presbytery. In a very in-
teresting manner, Mrs. Campbell told the
history of her church, "Motherwell", and its
activities.
Mrs. G. Young, in taking the "Least
Coin", read an article on Nicaragua. In,
spite of the unsettled conditions, the people
are hopeful a new election will bring peace,
she said. She concluded with a poem and
prayer.
The minutes were read and adopted, and
the offering was taken by Mrs. White. Mrs.
0. Falkiner, correspondence secretary,
gave her report and Miss M. Scott reported
on subscriptions to the "Glad Tidings".
A plaque from the Ontario Government in
recognition of the Knox WMS 100th Anniver-
sary was received from Jack Riddell,
M.P.P.
The meeting was then turned over to Mrs.
C. Edward. With the help of her group, Mrs.
C. Straughan, Mrs. A. Young, Mrs. G.
McEwan and Mrs. D. McKay, she continued
her study of Africa. By the use of a ap,
members were shown the differentm
coun-
tries. Some of these are in a devastated con-
dition. Ethiopia, which at one time was a
flourishing country, now has 64,000 starving
people. Although tons of food has been sen
there is a great need for teachers, docto
industrialists, missionaries, and agricult re
instructors to help the people adjust bac to
providing food for themselves.
The meeting closed with the hymn,
"Simply Trusting Every Day" and prayer.
All enjoyed lunch and a social half hour.
