Approval for the project was given after a recorded vote on a motion to allow the in- stallation of signs under the supervision of arena manager Peter Imanse. The motion was carried by a 6-2 margin. The sign project is designed to raise funds to cover operational expenses of the associa- tion, which has been operating at a deficit in recent years. Local busindses can get their names on the signs, which will be installed over the ex- isiting panels in the arena balcony, facing the ice surface, by making a donation to mm7nor hockey. Costs of the project have not yet been finalized. Minor Hockey will be responsible for the maintenance of the signs, but initial installation will be taken care of by arena staff. YOUNG CANADA WEEK The board approved use of the arena facilities by the Goderich Lions Young Canada Week Committee for their annual Pee Wee hockey tournament. The increase (the same as last year's in- crease) raises the cost from $3,400 to $3,570 for use of arena facilities for the week-long event. -CHANGED RATES At the suggestion of arena manager Peter Imanse., the board made some changes in the regualar rates charged to groups using the board's facilities for various functions. Rates for rental of the arena ,floor will re- main the same $385 with tables and chairs set up and $285 without tables and chairs. Rates for the use of the arena auditorium including the bar and kitchen will remain the same for groups serving cold meals, $200. For use of the same facilities, but with a hot meal served, the rate has been upped to $215. The reason for the hike, is the amount of time spent by arena staff clean- ing the oven after such functions. For meetings in the auditorium, the board concurred with Imanse's suggestion of a lowering of rates. Imanse said he felt the previous rates of $125-$150 for meetings up to three hours in length, were too high. The new rate was set a $50 for up to three hours and $15 for each additional hour. Blyth"Broomball League LuckyDevils move into first Goderich with two goals, while Cathy de Jong and Debbie Mitchelmore picked up a goal and assist each. ROI J.ER RINK The board passed a motion introduced by board member Pat Hamilton, to have Recreation Director Jane Netzke look into the cost and feasibility of building an out- door combination roller skating rink and ball hockey surface. The board authorized Netzke to study the proposal and prepare a report for considera- tion in next year's budget. MOVE MEETINGS A broken heating system and a/drafty exit door were the last straw for the board at the meeting last Thursday. Several board members got cold' feet and passed a motion, introduced by Harry Worsel and seconded by Jim Searis, to move board meetings from the Recreation office to the town council chambers during the winter months. . The board also agreed to dispense with the December meeting and will meet next on January 17 at the council chambers. The date for the February meeting was set at February 7. This season the Lucky Devils have moved to the Blyth Broomball League from the Teeswater League. Last week the Devils made yet another move, and that was into sole possession of first place in the Blyth loop.
