Goderich was off to a slow start, with Strathroy leading 1-0 after the first period. But then it was all Goderich. Goderich skated hard and played well to keep the score 1-0 until Richard Boddy net- ted one with 4:40 left in the second. He was assisted by Tom Bean and Kevin Talbot. Then, three minutes later, Goderich scored again with an outstanding effort by Mark Cauchi. Goderich never looked back. At 6:09 of the third period, Shawn Larder blasted one by the Strathroy goaltender to put Goderich up by two. Boddy and Talbot drew assists on the play. There were some tense moments when Strathroy scored, making it 3-2, but strong defence by everyone hampered Strathroy's comeback attempt. With under three minutes to play, Darcy McGee scored' with Cauchi picking up an assist. Fifty-four seconds later Talbot net- ted the clincher being assisted by Rod Nurse and Jim Beattie. The Goderich team played good, solid, smart hockey. They received only three _penalties,..compared to their usual .10 or more:- It --was by far the best game -yet. Coach Glenn Ferguson lost his moustache as a result of a bet. Jeff Scott played a superb game in goal. On Saturday night, the Midgets returned to old form and hung onto beat Lucan 5-3. The defensive corps included Brian Chambers, Gary Erb, Shawn Larder and Ian MacKinnon. The penalty killing for- wards did a remarkable job as well. There was no scoring in the first period. Goderich took the lead with two goals. Rod Nurse, now a forward, scored at the 3:03 mark. Nurse is becoming an excellent forward. He was assisted by Jim Beattie. At 8:28, Richard Boddy scored his first of the night, beating the Lucan goalie cleanly. Kevin Talbot and Tom Bean picked up assists. But Lucan scored three times, the last two on a power play. These goals were scored ten seconds apart in he third, period. At 8:02 Boddy scored his second with help from Mark Cauchi. Then at 12:00, Cauchi did some fine work and produced'an unassisted goal, which pro- ved to be the game winner. Darcy McGee added an empty -net goal, on a second effort from the faceoff, at 14:46 to put the game away. Brian Chambers played very strong as did Tom Bean with solid gkating and hitting. Hopefully the Midgets -will get rid -of their penalty trouble to become contenders. Dar- ren Connelly will be back after sitting out a suspension and captain Mark Burbine is still out, due to injury.
