"SRA -L NEWS, Oommittee considers pro'ects The Goderieh Airport Committee has in- structed its secretary, Ken Hunter, to prepare cost estimates for several projects at the airport in 1985, After estimates are received, the committee will decide which projects should he carried out and will then apply, through the town, to the provincial government's Board of Industrial Leader- ship Development (BILD) program for possible grant money. The projects being considered include: the extension of the existing airport parking apron and the repaving of the existing apron; the paving of the airport's car park- ing lot and entrance road;. the construction of aircraft turning buttons on runway 1028; and the purchase of the last lot for the new runway at the airport. In other business at its November 21st meeting, the Goderich Airport Committee decided to recommend to town council that the lease with Western Air Services, for of- fice space in the new airport terminal building, pe renewed for one year at the same rate. The 1985 fee schedule, reflecting an ap- proximate five per cent increase in fees for tie down rentals at the Fairport, was adopted by the committee. Secretary Hunter informed the committee that demolition of the old green terminal building at the airport has started on the in- terior only. This demolition is being carried out by eight employees who have been hired to perform a vari.:Ly of jobs around town through a $40,000 Ontario Youth Oppor- tunities grant. Hunter suggested that, since it will be hard to find sufficient work during the winter months for these employees, they could also demolish the exterior of the old terminal building under the supervision of Peter Spain. He said that for safety reasons, the roof shoulbe removed either by crane or by pulling the building down. The committee passed a motion to have Hunter organize the demolition of the building as suggested. Karen Sturdy, secretary of the Beta Tau, Preceptor Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, looks over the Christmas display which the Sorority recently purchased using money from last year's Ladies' Night Out profits. The display is called Canterbury Carollers and features two fiberglass statuettes bought from a company in F rankenmouth, Michigan for $1600. The Sorority group plans to buy three more statuettes—a trumpeter, fiddler and bass player -to go with the carollers but couldn't afford them all at once. The display was set up in Court House Park early last week and was joined by various other displays set up by dif- ferent groups and service clubs after the Santa Claus parade on Saturday.
