our family hi.story_ BIRTHDAY CLUB
GODERICH TWP. - The Township of
Goderich history book should be ready in
time for Christmas giving, but don't forget
that the deadline date for taking advantage
of the discount price of $20, is December lst.
After that date the book will be sold for $25.
This book is a 375 page (9 x 11") hard
cover edition complete with color dust cover
and isfull,o hotos, maps and history. The
17 chapters in Jude such titles as migration
routes, munici 1 history, our early settlers,
agriculture, c mmunities, schools and
education, chur es and religion, mills and
local industry, transportation and com-
munications, municipal history, organiza-
tions, recreation and tourist facilities,
military history, names and• memories,
social customs through the years, pat-
chwork and the patrons list. A full index is
included.
Once copies are available patrons will be
notified as to when and where they may be
picked up and we expect this to be about
December 14th - probably at the Township
Hall at Holmesville.
The second edition, Township Families, is
already in the planning stages and con-
siderable interest has been shown. Forty
family histories have already been submit-
ted. As previously noted we will accept sub -
missions - but these must be ready for
publication, typed (double spaced) on 9 x
11” paper. One photo may be included. We
are suggesting one page for each generation
that your family has been in our township.
We expect information regarding the first
settler of that surname in the township
(where he came from, when he came, where
he settled, his family, occupation, etc.). We
also want to know about the descendants of
this family who still live in our township.
Although it's hoped that all the earliest
settlers will be represented in this book, we
are not limiting it to those families. We
sincerely hope that more recent residents
will also include their histories. After all,
this book will become history !
In order to determine a price for these
books, we must first have some idea of how.
many pages it will be (how many stories will
be submitted) and how many copies are to
be printed. This book will be sold entirely
through PRE-SAI,FS. We will only be
publishing as many copies as have been
presold by April 1st. So, please let us know
by January 15th if you wish to have your
family story included in this edition! For
further information contact Alison Lobb
(482-7167) or Goderich Township, Box 150,
Holmesville, NOM 1LO.
Lions provide bus for seniors
For the past seven years, the Goderich
Lions Club has been providing free bus ser-
vice for the senior citizens of this communi-
ty.
The bus runs twice a week, on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. Any senior who wants to be
driven somewhere in town, can call driver
Bill Gautcher at 9 a.m. on those two days.
After all the calls are received, Mr. Gaut-
cher plans a route according to each per-
son's destination and begins picking up
passengers at 10 a.m.
"Often I drop them at the mall or at stores
uptown or maybe at their doctor's offices. It
all depends where they want to go," ex-
plains Mr. Gautcher.
The bus runs until 1 p.m. It holds ten pe
ple but it actually services more because
Mr. Gautcher says he sometimes drives
several different loads of people around at
different times. He says that the service is
available to any senior citizen in town, pro-
vided that they are able to get on and off the
bus by themselves. "We're not really equip-
ped to handle handicapped persons," he ex-
plains.
If you would like to make use of the Lions'
bus for seniors or require more information,
contact Bill Gautcher at 524-4825.
