This week, the Goderich Chess Club tem-
porarily moved to GDCI, as the club host
Doug Brindley was soaking up the sun down
south.
Eleven regular members, together with
newcomer Richard Bennett, battled some
outstanding chess games. One surprising
upset was Robert Nau's win over Bob Dick
in a contest which had a very tight middle
game. Gerry Ross played a number of
strong games, winning four games during
the evening. His only loss las against Barry
Page, who was really hard-pressed to
secure the victory. Barry's second game
was a defeat to Bob Dick.

played, with the most notable between
Richard Bennett and Owen Moriarty. It was
good to see Dave Brown and Mike Cox out.
Eric Hallam and John Crawford also picked
up some wins to improve their positions in

Standings battles heat up
FORESTERS MIXED
Dan's Fans are in first this week, taking last place team
Arlies Harlies for seven points. Dan Mero rolled a 298 for
the men's high single and a 618 triple for his team "Dan's
Fans". Also for the same team, Gerry Morgan had a 251,
227 for a 655 triple, Muriel Morgan a 254 and Rod Johnston a
214, Arlies Harlies players Scott Little, a 240 and Ralph
Curran a 202 and 205.
In second place is Spark E, but they took a 5-2 loss to

Webster had a 210, 207 for a 589 triple. Allan Webster had a
great night with 200, 263, 240 for a 703 triple and he also had
high triple for the men.
Bombers are in third and took a clean sweep of seven
from fifth place Haskell's Rascals. Brian MacLean had a
278 single and 655 triple, teams late Brian Johnston had 265
and 213 for a 618 triple for the Bombers. Doug Haskell, of
the Rascals, had 214, 234 for a 646 triple, Steve Johnston
had a 228 and Ruth Oke a 244 for the ladies high single.
Fourth place Presidents Choice took seven from second
last place Ups & Downs. Tom Willis of the Presidents
Choice had a 243 and 243 for a 666 triple. Teammate Nancy
Willis had a 232, 230 for a 630 triple, this was also the ladies
high three for the week. For the Ups & Downs Jack had 209,
213 for a 621 triple.
MONDAY NIGHT MEN
Dennis Schmidt and Simon Langlois, with a 722 and 688
respectively, were the power behind the

knocked off the league leading Murp y'
a score of 16.5 to 13.5. This win over the leaders served to
close up the standings considerably. Steve Allen had a good
night for Murphy's as he turned in a 329 single and 791 tri-
ple.
French Cleaners are in second spot and gained a little
ground as they beat Little Bowl 19-11. Al Smith bowled a
team leading 349 single and 831 triple for the match. The
bright spot for Little Bowl was Al Sanders as he rolled to an
843 for the night. Sonny Moore seems to have found the
mark of late as he came through with a 790.
The A Team had another win as they defeated Selinger
Wood 18-12. High man for the A Team was Paul Bartliff
with a 627. Carson Milley had another good night for Sel-
inger with a 693.
John's Jokers finally came through with a big win as they
' " cleaned up on the Poverty Pak 23-7. John Miller led the at-
tack with a 701. Earl Lawrence was again high man for the
Pak with a 559.
MONDAY NIGHT LADIES
Auleen's Angels trimmed Shirt's Girls for seven points.
The high roller for the Angels was Karen Mero with a 226
single and a 595 triple. Shirt's Girls high single went to
Brenili iq ratt ;hid a triple of 640 to Shirley Kennedy.
TheOyltimers� Melba Njaillet rolled a286 single and a
673 triple, to help her team win five points from the
Blazers. Joyce Hamilton blazed the way for the Blazers
with her 264 single and 639 triple. This helped her team to
take two points.
The No -Names came away with five points as Donna
Duncan rolled a 212 single and Del Geddes a 604 triple.
Ellen Moody once again led the Captain's Kids with a 222
single and 497 triple. The Kids sailed off with two points.

The Marionettes still hold the lead, as they took three
points from Trouble. Marion Beacom led the Marionettes
with a 263 single and Marilyn Bannister with a 568 triple.
Trouble's high roller was Karen Walker with a 195 single
and a 537 triple which helped to take four points.
TUESDAY MIXED
Don Henry led the ?'s to a 4-3 split with the Pin Pickers.
Don rolled a 590 triple. Mel and Helen Dickson and Brian
Stewart had good nights for the Pickers rolling 599, 595 and
662 triples respectively.
Grace Mugford and Helen Durnin rallied the Unpredic-
tables to a 5-2 win over Bell's Angels. Grace and Helen roll-
ed 570 and 538 triples. Walter Bell has the new high single
with a 332 to go with a 773 triple but they could only manage
two points.
Diane Sutton and Myles Murdock had big nights leading
the Bold Eagles to a 7-0 win over the Tailenders. Diane roll-
ed a 269 single and 718 triple while Myles rolled a 700 triple.
Ross Millar was the high Tailender with a 557 triple.
Dick McLean, Bruce Baker and Shirley Schmidt all had
600 plus nights, to lead the Tricky Six to a 4-3 split with the
Unknowns. Donna Baker rolled a 592 triple.
Al Fisher and Ted Rowe had 648 and 619 triples to get the
three points. •
Jack Gilbert and Francis Merkley rolled 705 and 660"
triples to lead the G.M.C.s to a 7-0 victory over Barb's
Gang, Barb Chapman had a good night for the Gang with a
694 triple. '
Joanne Ducharme rolled a 281 single and 697 triple while
Manfred Popernitsch had a 719 triple to lead the Dirty Half
Dozen to a 4-3 split with the Frame Ups. Hugh McGregor
rolled a 291 single and 711 triple while George Sutton had a
309 single and 697 triple for the Frame Ups.
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
LADIES
Karen Pounder, with the high average of 231, led her
team with 608 to a 7-0 decision over the Roses. Jean
Broughton also had 144 pins over average for the day. High
for the Roses was Helen Durnin with 213 and 582.
Tulips, in spite of Brenda Good's 106 pins over average,
went down to a 7-0 defeat by Tiger Lillies. Ev Maclnnes
rolled a 278 and 640 for her team.
Daffy Dillies, Snapdragons and Forget-Me-Nots defeated
their respective teams, Carnations, Buttercups and
Bluebelles 5-2. Mary Jeffrey led her team with 241 and 658,
while Marg Hall had 257 and 628 in their match. Sheila
Brownlee of the Snapdragons had 236 and 549 against But-
tercups, led by Marg Hornblower, with 205 and 517. A 224
and 608 by Shirley Smith helped defeat Bluebelles with a
high game of 214 by Flo Sowerby.
Doreen's Daisies and Mary's Golds fought to a 3-4 split,
with many good scores. Joan Dougherty was high with 545;
but Yvonne Dougherty had a 592 to lead her team. Bernice
Henry had the best single of 244 in this match up.
THURSDAY NIGHT LADIES
Yo YD'S took five points with Barb Adair coming through
" with three.gnod games Thursday night to give her the best
triple for the league with 624. What Not's took two points
with Linda Rodger having a triple of 604.
Grace Young of the Spare Parts, bowled a terrific 530 tri-
ple and Carrie Middel's 551 triple helped take five points
from Team Canada. Alice Koopman$ was Team Canada's
high bowler for the night with a 599 triple, but Laurie Little
had a good game of 216 and Stephanie Kerlovich has 187.
Trouble Makers took five points with Barb Pigg having a
triple of 516. The Nighthawk's high bowler for the night was
Mary Lamb who had three good games and a triple of 572.
Pat Brown's 607 triple assisted the Alleycats to take three
points from the Wallbangers, who took four. Sandy Fielder
was their high bowler with a 478 triple.
Scatterbrains beat Tarts
Thursday morning, senior citizens bowl-
ing action saw the Scatterbrains take five
points from Art's Tarts.
Kay Glen bowled bowled 205 and Jean Sin-
namon, who doubled her average with a big
230, were the tops for the Brains; while Art
Young, with a 548 triple and Jim Watson's
205 single were high for the Tarts.
The Jenis and the G .. Ms split games.
The Jenis getting five. Mary Harman had a
524 triple for Jenis and Gwyn McCrae a 545
for the G . Ms.
The VIM's won two games, giving them
five points, and the Ups & Downs two. Mike
Sauderson coming up with a fine 205 single
for the Vim's. Irene Spark's 461 was best for
the Ups & Downs.
Headpins also shared games with the Pin -
pickers. Ed Smythe's 606 and Olive Gilbert's
537 triples were the top scores for the pins,
helped by Betty Wheelers 177, for the
Pickers.
Joanne Thompson was in tine form with a
249 and 600 triple.
Ed's Girls were too good for the Madcaps,
taking all three games. Ed Taylor 590, and
Ann Linklater 491 being the high for the
Girls; while Marie Park had a steady 572 for
the losers.
Lane Busters defeat Four Aces
BY TIP
In Youth Bowling Council action this
week, the Lane Busters won a 5-2 decision
Over the Four Aces, led by Lora McInnis' 488
triple. Tim Main rolled a 433 for the Four
Aces.
The Pin Strikers, led by Cathy Miller's 590
triple, won a 5-2 decision over Head Pins
Revenge. Kim Morley had a 510 triple for
the Head Pins Revenge.
The Triple Strikes were ready to bowl
when they met Strike Zone II as they handed
them their first loss of the season, defeating
them 5-2. Terry Lynn Schmidt had a great
week with a 455 triple. Tim Gerrits rolled a
599 for Strike Zone II.
Paul Gavigan rolled a 517 as he led the Pin
Busters to a 5-2 decision over the Little
Bowlers. Grant Langlois had a fine 286
single and 617 triple for the Little Bowlers.
The Gutter Bowlers swept a 7-0 decision
over the Knockouts, led by Ken Webb's 558
triple. Jennifer Krusp led the Knockouts
with a 487 triple.
Pee Wee 's team wins
The game was a thriller all the way, with
Goderich scoring, with just four seconds left
on the clock to gain a tie.
The first period was scoreless- Goderich
was the first to count scoring at 5:24 of the
second period, on a goal by Kelly McDonald
assisted by Chris Erb and Steve Tziousmis.
Zurich tied the game three minutes later, at
8:26 then went ahead 2 - 1 just 27 seconds
later.

,Goderich Peewee B's hosted Wingham on
Friday, November 2, in an exhibition game.
The locals came out on top by a 6 - 2 score.
Unfortunately the game report was
misplaced so there is no report on the point
scorers.
On Saturday Goderich travelled to
Wingham to test the Wingham boys once
again. This time the B's walloped Wingham
11- 3.
On Friday, November 9, Goderich met
Zurich at the local arena. This was the first
giime of the schedule for the locals.
Bantams drop game 9-5
Goderich Elevator Bantams lost to St. in evi ec to outscored the to end the frame
team p 2 in.
Marys 9-5, in a Shamrock League game
Theplayed November 10, in Goderich. the third frame to secure the win.
Goderich was first on the scoreboard,
scoring 17 seconds into the game. St. Marys
replied 11 seconds later, scored again at the
1:30 mark and an early second period goal
put them up 3-1.
Goderiztefought back with twomore goals

Scott Garrow scored twice and assisted on
a goal for Goderich. Bob Allen had two
goals, George Sideris had one goal, one
assist and Mike ' eange, Byron Bowman
and Bill Whetstone all earned an assist in
