Veterans remembered
at cenotaph service here
Goderich Legion Branch. 109 and the Ladies' Auxiliary held their
annual Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph on Sunday mor-
ning. Many wreaths were laid, including one by Silver Cross
Mother Lillian Summers. Those attending the service had to brave
cold wet weather as the town received its first snowfall of the
season. (Photos by Joanne Buchanan)
Frayne
will seek
chair again
The chairman of the Huron County Board
of Education hopes to continue in that spot
for another year, but announced he will not
chair any meetings where the question of
Catholic high schools is the main issue.
Chairman- Eugene Frayne of RR 3,
Goderich told trustees at their November
session that he would let the vice-chairman
sit as his replacement at such meetings.
Mr. Frayne is the Catholic school
supporters representative on the public
school board. He represents the north half of
the county while Dennis Rau of RR 2, Zurich
represents the south half of the county.
The board is going to monitor the question
of extending funding to Catholic . high
schools beyond Grade 10. Administration
will prepare briefs to be presented to the
provinces's three commissions being set up
to investigate the issue.
Locally, the Huron Perth Roman Catholic
Separate School Board has set up a commit-
tee of trustees as well as community
members to determine whether or not it
should go ahead with a Catholic high school.
Mr. Frayne said his decision to vacate his
chair at these possible meetings is
"reasonable".
Vice-chairman Art Clarke of Wingham
said he will re -seek that spot.
Education committee chairman Frank
Falconer of RR 5, Clinton and management
committee chairman Dennis Rau also want
to retain those positions.
However, personnel committee chairman
John Jewitt of Londesboro made no com-
ment about staying on in that role. Trustee
Graeme Craig of RR 1, Walton said he would
like to be personnel committee chairman.
Director of education Bob Allan said
trustees will be able to announce their inten-
tions to seek a chairmanship at the board's
inaugural meeting which will be Dec. 3.
Elliott will run
Huron County Board of Education trustee
John Elliott of Blyth is seeking an executive
position on the Ontario Public School
Trustees' Association (OPSTA).
Mr. Elliott has been the board's represen-
tative to the OPSTA for four years and has
served as an alternate this year.
Donald McDonald of Brussels has served
as the board's director for the past year and
said he is willing to become the alternate so
Mr. Elliott could run for an executive posi-
tion.
