Sun seekers will not escape metric
Dear Editor,
For many Canadians, a brief respite from
the rigours of winter means the proverbial
migration down south for sun, sea and sand.
Again, for many Canadians, it Means retur-
ning to the realm of weights and measures
which are free of so-called Metrication.
But not for long; because as soon as our
Orlando, Fort Myers or Disneyland sunwor-
shippers cross the Florida border, they will
be faced with both Imperial and Metric en-
umerated road signs.
Obviously, this news strikes horror into
the heart of the anti -metrics. But the follow-
ing article, extracted from Metric Commis-
sion Canada's periodical "Metric," is a
clear indicator that the Sunshine State is
helping to spearhead the U.S. metric pro-
gram; which once fully in place, will compel
Canadians to tow the metric line whether
they like it or not.
Yours sincerely,
Barry V. Page
LETTERS
The following is reprinted from Metric
magazine:
Florida road si it show kJph
The Department of Transportation in the
sunshine state of Florida plans to erect up to
1800 dual imperial/metric road signs per
month. The program which began on Oc-
tober of 1983 got off to a slow start, but is
now moving into full implementation
throughout the state.
The delay was the result of an anti -metric
lobby on the floor of the Florida Legislature
to try and terminate the program. However,
the state law on dual road signs was not
repealed, and the program is now well
underway.
The family unit is core of society
Dear Editor,
In an effort to maintain an awareness of
current events I read the newspapers,
magazines, listen to radio_and view televi-
sion newscasts. Thessae is undeniable
and unbelievable. ThWe is murder, revolu-
tion, famine, physical emotional and sexual
abuse of children and to anyone with a social
conscience the feeling of helplessness is
overwhelming.
To me, the epitome of all this horror in our
society today is a rnan named Henry
Morgentaler.I cannot call him doctor
because to me doctor means life saver, life
giver. Henry Morgentaler boasts of killing
18,000 babies personally through a medical
procedure called abortion.
Morgentaler is riding high on the tidal
wave of the women's rights movement of to-
day. I'm ashamed to be called a woman
when, for the sake of a woman's right to do
as she pleases with her own body, a baby is
destroyed. I'm ashamed to be called a
woman when men as a group are made to
feel inadequate in our modern society.
The family unit is the core for our society
and it is beginning to disintegrate. Can't we
do something before it's too late?

Maybe we need low-level
scholarship writer says
Dear editor,
Your correspondent of October 31, ac-
cuses me of obtaining information from a
"source" of which he is not sure, but which
he calls in question by saying: "I'm not sure
of what Mr. Barney's source is, but he may
want to get a refund."
May I quote from my "source of informa-
tion"? : "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by
the will of God ... Grace to you, and peace, ,
from God our Father, and from the Lord
Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God"and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ ... That the God of
our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of him." Speak-
ing of God's might power Paul says: "Which'
he (GOD) wrought in Christ, when he
(GOD) raised him (CHRIST) up from the
dead, and set him (the resurrected and
•
glorified Christ Jesus) at his own (GOD's)
right hand in the heavenly places." (EPHE-
SIANS 1:1,2,3,17,20).
Turning to the Hebrew Scriptures, of
which Jesus is reported to have said: "Your
Word is Truth" (JOHN 17:17); The God of
our Lord Jesus Christ is revealed as the One
"whose name alone is JEHOVAH" the
"most high over all the earth." (PSALM
83:18). He is the one of whom Jesus was
speaking when he said: "And this is life
eternal, that they might know thee the only
true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast
sent." (JOHN 17:3). Since modern-day
religionists have removed the name
Jehovah from most translations, how could
anyone really come to know both Jesus the
Son and Jehovah his God? Maybe we need a
little"low level scholarship."

hack -pack stolen in Spain
Dear Editor,
Many of your readers, who also read the
FOCUS magazine, have mentioned to my
wife or myself how they have been enjoying
following the "Globetrotting" articles writ-
ten by our son Rob Bundy, while he is on his
round -the -world trip.
As I am sure they realize, the articles ap-
pear some two or three months after they
actually occur.
We thought your readers might be in-
terested in the phone call we received from
Rob just the other day:
It started out with: "Well, I've got some
good news and some bad news..." -
The good news was that he and Rhonda
became engaged, and are planning a wed-
ding upon their return to Canada next sum-
mer.
ummer.
The bad news was ... their rental car, in
which they were travelling around Europe
in, was broken into in Barcelona, Spain and
his back -pack, with ever yything he owned,
was stolen!
"You can't imagine how discouraging it is

to be thousands of miles away from home, in
a strange country, with nothing but the
clothes on your back, and your passport,"
was the way he put it.
Fortunately, Rhonda's back -pack was
saved, and he has insurance which will par-
tially cover the loss. Nevertheless, the
hassles, delays and costs involved have set
them back considerably.
"Just another learning experience, I
guess," he said.
They have returned the rental car to

Rob said he hopes his efforts at trying to

reading to the FOCUS readers. More ar-
ticles will be forthcoming soon about their
trip to Denmark, Norway, East Germany
and Berlin.
He sends greetings to all his friends in the
