The competition, held at Falls Reserve Provincial Park, near Benmiller, involved runners from 15 schools across the county, including St. Joseph's in Clinton and St. Mary's in Godi'ich. (photo by Patrick Raftis) Area rider places third in class The final round of the Fall ATV Super - cross Series sported the largest field of com- petitors yet in this up and coming sport. Teams representing all six Ontario Regions converged on Hully Gully on Oc- tober 14 and went wheel to wheel and handlebar to handlebar under ideal track conditions with 1,200 fans looking on. The day was filled with exciting action. The 200 Modified saw Byron Boyce of Clin ton, in second place for the series, get a poor start in his first Moto and then put on the gas for a comeback before the hometown fans. Boyce put on too much gas and over shot the off camber turn and ended up in the pond. Byron completed the series in thinf''li`lace. The same turn put 200 Solid class rider Rob Brulatt of Dorchester in to the drink as he made a wild attempt to get by Mike Kuno of Eganville, in the last lap. The most competitive class of the day was the 225 Stockers who ran qualifiers and a consy to determine the pole position for the final. That final saw the top five positions change like a yoyo with less than two seconds between them for the last three laps,, Rookie Mark Delmage of Camlachie led the contest followed by Mike Kuno, Chris Barendregt of Port Stanley, Allen Bruce and Wall Gordon of Ingersoll. Gordon's points were enough to give him the Series win. The Dog fight of the day saw Chuck Col- lins of Varna square off against Bruce Miller and Alan Bruce both of Eganville in the 250 and open Mod classes. With Collins on a Tri -Z 250, Alan Bruce on a Kawasaki Tecate and Bruce Miller on a CR 125 powered 200X chassis swapped posi- tions in all motos. Allan Bruce won the first open mod moto as Collins ran right off the track on the final charge in the last corner. The second moto was a carbon copy of action only with Col- lins on top for the overall win. Brent Van Moorsel of Mitchell came out ahead of Mike Rimmey of Strathroy in the 7.50 Stock Class, as they battled with the Ot- tawa Valley boys and Butch Heroux of Whit- by the star of the indoor meets of last February. 6 The next ATV event will be drag races on October '28 at Hully Gully. Grass drag racing offers both spectators and participants a great deal of excitement. Snowmobiles go from a standing start to speeds of close to 100 miles per hour. All classes will be racing, from the brand new "crate" stock right up to the wild and hairy open modifieds in all c.c. displacements.
