Hay and 85 pigs lost in barn fire
Those visiting' with Rhetta MacLennan
during the weekend were her brother and
sister -4444W; Harold and Peggy Jardine of
Harriston and her two daughters, Louise
Millar of Palmerston and Florence MacLen-
nan of Kitchener.
Thanksgiving visitors with Charles,
Mayme and Ken Wilkins were Mayme's
mother and brother, Stella and Lloyd Irwin
of Kinloss township, Barbara Shepperd of
Paris, Bill and Joanne Wilkins, 'an and
Stacey, Larry, Janet, Laura and Adam
Wilkins, Jack and Sharon Wilkins of
Ashfield township. Janet Wilkins of
Wallaceberg, Elizabeth Wilkins of Toronto,
and cousins Laura and Mabel Campbell of
Toronto.
Jack and Marion Smith of Dungannon
visited one evening with Wellington and Kae
Webster recently.
Dorothy MacKenzie of Goderich and
formerly of Ashfield township visited on the
weekend with Dorothy MacLennan.
Visiting on the weekend with Wellington
and Kae Webster were their son-in-law;
Atlee Wise of Richfield, Ohio and their two
sons, Cecil and James Webster of Waterloo.
Early Sunday morning, Atlee, Cecil, Jim
and Kae left for Tobermory to board the Chi
Cheemaun for Manitoulin Island. They en-
joyed four wonderful hours touring the
Island. I am sure the trees were in their
most wonderful fall colours. The scenery

was lovely. A number of souvenir shops
were visited enroute, and we were very
thankful the rain held off until we had
returned to South Baymouth for the retuke
trip home. Monday morning Atlee and Cecil
toured around this area, and later in the
day, Atlee returned to Kitchener with Jim
and Cecil, and on Tuesday returned to Ohio.
George and Betty Moncrief spent
Thanksgiving weekend with their son,
daughter-in-law . and grandsons, Russell,
Lesley and Scott Moncrief in Aylmer.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Mathewman spent the
weekend with their daughter. son-in-law,
and two grandsons, Terry, Margo, Jamey
and Beau in Sudbury.
Lorne and Maxine Luther spent
Thanksgiving with their relatives in
Ridgetown.
Brad and Dianne Ratteau of Amberley
had their Thanksgiving with Brad's sister
and brother-in-law, Kenny and Janet
Stewart 01 Darlington.
Bill and Janet Kempton of Point Clark had
Thanksgiving dinner with Janet's sister and
brother-in-law, Ellwood and Joan Irwin at
their cpttage which is also at Point Clark.
Thanksgiving guests with Dorothy
Finlayson were Paul and Jane Emberlin of
Toronto. Bill and Judy Finlayson and their
two children of Teeswater and Ken
Finlayson of Toronto.
Dorothy Finlayson, was in Toronto at the
time Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip
were there. She had a very close look at the
Queen and thought she was beautiful and the
Prince a very charming man. It was a thrill-
ing experience.
Visiting with Warren and June Wylds and
other relatives on the weekend were War-
ren's sister and her friend, Doris Wylds and
Ruth Sweet of Toronto.
On Sunday Warren and June Wylds had
their Thanksgiving dinner with their
daughter Linda Wylds in London. '
The community was shocked to hear of
another barn going up in flames this week.
`phis time it was a barn owned by Henry
Drennan in Ashfield township. There were
85 pigs lost in the blaze and a large amount
of the season's hay. It is a great loss at any
time of the year but worse when winter is
just around the corner.
Area couples marry in October
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. David
McLellan (Dianne Mole) who were married
in Brussels on Friday, October 5.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Delford
Schade (Louise McWhinney) who were mar-
ried at the Nile United Church on Friday,
October 5. Many from this area attended the
reception held in Blyth.
Sympathy is extended to John Foran and
family on the passing of a dear wife and
mother, Sophia on Sunday, October 7 at
University Hospital, London in her 62nd
year. Besides her husband she is survived
by 14 children and 13 grandchildren.
Company on Monday for Thanksgiving
with Bill and Marie Park, Todd and Brad
were Gertie Park, Tim and Wanda Hodges
of the village, Tom and Michelle Park, Vicki
and Ted Henry, Pat and Gary Johnston, Val
and Mike Bendig, Joel and Katie and
Stephen Park of London, Holly and Amber
Park, all of Goderich.

Happy birthday to Colleen Eedy and Al
Sherwood who celebrated birthdays on Oc-
tober 11. Cora and Al also celebrated 39
years of marriage the same day.
Nicole Sherwood and her cousin, Tara
Pyro of Goderich visited on Thanksgiving
Monday with Nicole's grampa and gramma,
Al and Cora Sherwood.
Bill and Marie Park and Brad, Tim and
Wanda Hodges attended the baptism of
Katie Marie Bendig, daughter of Val and
Mike Bendig at St. George's Anglican Chur-
ch, Goderich on Sunday.
Irvine and Colleen Eedy visited with
Colleen's siters, Helen Blair at Courtland
Nursing Horne and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Van
Horne of London on Sunday.
Mary Bere went to Brampton on
Thanksgiving weekend` to visit Marybelle
and Dwight Aldham and family.
Holmesville 4-H Club goes on 1600 metre run
HOLMESVILLE - The fourth meeting of
the 4-H Fitness Freaks met at the home of
Marina Rawlings on October 13.
The meeting began with the pledge. After
that members read in their books. They
discussed snack habits and learned how to
do sit-ups and push-ups properly.
The r;,cipe for the day was Bran Muffins
and Cheesy Popcorn which were enjoyed
with refreshments. The meeting ended with
the 4-H motto and members thanked Mrs.
Rawlings for the use of her home.
The next meeting will be on October 20 at
1:30 p.m. at Janet Ducharme's after a trip to
the Saltford Craft Show.
HOLMESVILLE - U.C.W. Penny- Savers
dinners will be held Monday, October 22 at
6:30 p.m. in the Church Hafl.
Worship Service was held in Holmesville
United Church Sunday morning with Rev.
Bechtel in charge.
The Enterprising Seniors will meet
October 18 at 8 p.m. in the Community
Centre in Holmesville. Guest speaker for the
evening will be Estelle Wise of the Town and
Country Homemakers.
Old friends and relatives joined with Rita
and Elmer to celebrate their 50th Wedding.
Anniversary in the Queensway Nursing
Home in Hensall last Saturday afternoon.
Irene and Charlie Pearce of Brantford,
attended the wedding anniversary of Elmer
and Reta Potter in Hensall.
HOLMESVILLE - The third meeting of
the 4-H Club was held at the Goderich
Township Hall on October 1.
Members opened the meeting with the
pledge and started at once with the 1600m
run. Jodi Mustard placed first, Jaqua Lobb

placed second and Gina Mustard third. Most
of the people did very well. When members
came back they had an apple and started
cooking.
Nina Potter and Jaqua Lobb made
coleslaw, Jodi Mustard and Shannon
Preszcator made baked potatoes, Lana
Jones and Shelly Pearson made chili con
carne ( which was spread over the potatoes),
Gina Mustard and Adrienne Bartlett made
custard and Anne Tyndall and Lori Forbes
cleaned up. Everything turned out well ex-
cept the custard, which was slightly curdy.
The next meeting will be held at the
Goderich Township Hall on October 22. By:
