Will trim airport committee
A recommendation will be forwarded to
council ,advising that the airport
committee be trimmed by three members
effective January 1, 1985 to make the
committee more efficient and managable.
The recommendation will be forwarded
by the organizational review committee
for consideration at council's October 29
meeting.
The committee met with Dick Wright,
Len Bannerman and Ted Gozzard, of the
airport committee to discuss the future
role of the committee. Wright, chairman of
the airport committee, said the committee
has served its purpose and was now doing
little more than approving administrative
duties after the fact. • .
The committee, it was recognized, has
completed much work over the years,
implementing the master plan for the
airport and realizing the construction of a
new airport terminal. But Wright told the
committee it was difficult to get the 10
members of the committee together for a
meeting.

-The airport committee committee
presently consists of Mayor Eileen
Palmer, deputy -reeve Jim Britnell, Don
Wheeler, Grant Stirling of Goderich
township, Bill Vanstone of Colborne
Township and Tom Cunningham and Dave
Johnston, representing the county of
Huron and the previously mention
members at large.
It will be recommended to council that
the Goderich Township representative,
one town council representative and one
county representative be dropped from the
committee. Also, the committee will only
meet every two months or at the call of the
chairman.
Claiming the committee was too large,
Wheeler advocated a change in structure
to a board of management that would meet
four times a year. Mayor Palmer pointed
out that the committee workload
decreased with the addition of the
commissioner of works and airport
manager to the town staff.
Administrator Larry McCabe indicated
that representation was linked to funding
saying that "the biggest function of our
link with the cogrityt, and townships is
funding and it seems to come up about
every three years."
The organizational review committee
also discussed the prospect of placing
airport business in the hands of an existing
committee,' but Glen Carey argued that it
would not lend itself to efficient
administration.
"I would hate to see the committee
disband and ad hoc committees tend to be
helter skelter," he said. "I would like to
see something continue that has its finger
on the pulse beat and we'll lose that if we
disband."
The committee wanted to keep intact to
pursue the remaining elements of the
airport master plan.
The Livery is for sale
The Livery is on the chopping block.
The historic building that was purchased
and restored by the Goderich Arts
Foundation is under power of sale and has
been listed with a local real estate broker,
Alexander and Chapman.
Dennis . Little of the Goderich Arts
Foundation said the mortgage is held by
District Trust which in turn is
administered by the Sterling Trust
Company. The building will be on the
market until November 23 at which time
the trust company may give the foundation
the option to continue or accept another
offer to purchase.
While there has been mild interest in the
Livery, one group, Goderich Little
Theatre, has expressed its dismay to
council at the prospect of the building
being purchased for a commercial
purpose.
In a letter to council. Maurice Jenkins of
Goderich Little Theatre asked that the
administrative committee of council meet
with a committee of the GLT with the
express interest of saving the Livery for
the benefit of the community. Council
referred the matter to the administrative
committee for consideration at its meeting
Thursday, October 18.
In his letter, Jenkings suggested his
organization was interested in the facility
-considering it was the home of GLT.
"The original reason the property was
purchased by Mrs. Wallace -The Goderich
Arts Foundation was for the community
and now we see the possibility of this being
lost. Including the initial purchase price,
several hundred thousands of dollars has
been spent on the building, besides
numerous hours of devoted labour. The
question we have is, is all this going to
waste because the citizens of the town do
nothing about it?" the lette read.
Roy Breckenridge appointed
to committee of adjustment
health reasons. The committee received
applications from Breckenridge and Vince
Young. It was noted that Young already
serves on a town committee.
Breckenridge formerly served as the
town's building inspector and was
secretary of the planning committee.
The town's committee of adjustment will
be back in full force with the appointment
of Roy Breckenridge by the organizational
review committee Monday.
Frank Bowra, a member of the
committee of adjustment for several
years, was recently forced to resign for
