109 for the Legion Year 1984-1985 are: (front row 1. to r.) -

Donald; First Vice-president, Alvin Blackwell and Second Vice-
president, Carolyn Holborn. The centre row includes: William
Burke, Robert Chapman, Donald Kernick, Leslie Riley and Harold
Beadle. The back row includes: Neil Shaw, Alex Gauley, Donald
McArthur, Stanley Profit, Ray Barker, Howard Carroll, Stan Batt,

Branch accepts eight members

The General Meeting of Goderich Legion
Branch 109 for the honth of October was
held in the Jubilee Room with Branch Presi-
dent John A. MacDonald in the chair.
Eight new members were added to the
nominal roll of Branch 109. Applications
were accepted from Ordinary members W.
Keene, P.J. Baltrop and R.A. Ronaldson
and Associate members C. Knight, W. Pier-
son, M. Sydney, N. Scott and R. Brookhouse.
A motion was passed to increase the an-
nual legion dues by the amount of $5 for the
coming year. The membership dues for or-
dinary and associate members are $25.00
and for fraternal members $30.00. Anyone
paying their 1985 dues prior to the end of this
year are eligible for the monthly early bird
draw and may win a free paid up dues for
the year to folltiw. Dues may be paid at the
canteen or by mailing your cheque to the
Membership Chairman, Legion Branch 109,
56 Kingston St., Goderich, N7A 3K4.
The Branch made a donation of $125 to the
Knights of Columbus Arthritis Society Cam-
paign and $20 to the Parkwood Hospital
Entertainment Fund for Veterans.
The District Fall Convention will be held
on October 20 and 21 at Branch 126 in Cam-
bridge (Preston).
A meeting to explain the functions of the
Legion will be held this Thursday, October
18 at 8 p.m. in the Jubilee Room by Leader-
ship Chairman Bob Chapman for all Legion
members and a special invitation is extend-
ed to our Associate members.
The poppy canvass this year will be held
on Sunday, November 4 and the church
parade will be held on November 11 at North
Street United Church prior to the Remem-
brance Day Service at the Cenotaph. Details
of the poppy canvass and Legion Parade
will be announced later.
The Sick and Welfare Chairman reported
that cards, gifts and/or visitations were
made to 21 comrades last month:
The Branch will sponsor three teams for
the Zone Cribbage Tournament to be held in
„Lucknow on October 27 and the Branch will
put in a bid for the District Dart Tourna-
ment.
A letter of congratulations was sent to
Comrade. Evelyn Carroll who was elected
the Second Vice-president by the Ontario
Command of the Ladies Auxiliary at their
recent convention.
A Halloween Party will be held in the
lounge on October 27. There will be prizes
for those who attend in costume.
The next executive meeting of the Branch
is scheduled for Tuesday, October 30 and the
next general meeting of the Branch will be
held on Tuesday, November 6 a 77:30 p.m. in
the Jubilee Room.
Auxiliary members 'attend convention

President Laura McLarty chaired the
regular general meeting of the Ladies'
Legion Auxiliary at 7:30 p.m. October 9 with
about 45 members in attendance.
Two new comrades were initiated, Becky
Lynn Mclvor and Mary Ellen Gower.
Minutes of the September general
meeting and the last executive meeting
were approved as read. Treasurer Marie
LeBlanc gave her report. This was approv-
ed and all September accounts were also ap-
proved for payment.
The executive received a letter of resigna-
tion from Comrade Kathy Langelle. This
was accepted with regrets. Kathy is moving
from Goderich.
Comrade Marion Hays will take over
Kathy's duties as canteen convener.
The executive appointed Comrade Grace
Mugford to the Executive Committee.
Grace was installed to her new office by
President McLarty. Grace is also Sports Of-
ficer.
President McLarty congratulated Com-
rade Evelyn Carroll on being elected Second
Vice President Ontario Provincial Com-
mand. Anyone who has had the privilege to
hear Evelyn give her committee reports at
Command level, will appreciate how hard
she works, how accurate and articulate she
delivers these reports, and will understand
the faith placed in Evelyn from delegates all
over Ontario.
There were 327 colors carried on parade to
the cenotaph at Niagara Falls to officially
open the 41st Biennial Convention of the
Ladies' Legion Auxiliary, Ontario Provin-
cial Command. President McLarty, Past
President Sharon Scruton and Second Vice -
President Marg Lightfoot were a part of ap-
proximately 1600 comrades attending from
all across Ontario. As voting delegates, they
each gave an inside_look at the convention.
itesolutions dealt with at the convention will
be reviewed in February when they are
received from Ontario Provincial Com-
mand.
Remembrance Day is Sunday, November
11. The church parade will fall in at 9:15
a.m. and parade to North Street United
Church for service at 9:30 a.m. Parade to
the cenotaph will be at 10:45 a.m. The ser-
vice is to commence at 11 a.m SHARP.
Transportation will be available for non -
marchers.
Don't forget the Poppy Blitz on the even-
ing of November 9, and all day Saturday,
November 10. Contact Poppy Chairman
Howard Carroll and offer your help for this
most important campaign.

participating in a project to help keep the
people ,of Ontario healthy by evaluating
old, or unused medications.
UNUSED MEDICATIONS CAN BE A
HAZARD ESPECIALLY:

home.
•When they have lost their strength.
Medications stored for a very long time may
even he HARMFUL. Remove this potential
danger from your home by taking unused
drugs to your local pharmacy for
evaluation.
This project is being sponsored by your
pharmacist, and the Ontario Pharmacists'
Association.

to donate potato salad to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation's annual dinner meeting.

Comrade Hilda Hurst reported all tables
for the Snowflake Bazaar, November 1 are
taken. Donations are requested for the bake
table, white elephant table, etc., and if you
can help out for that day, even an hour or
two would be appreciated, just contact
Hilda Hurst or Iris Sampson.
"Happy Birthday" to two great senior
comrades, Mamie Sutcliffe who is 90 years
young, and Mae MacAuley, 89 years, who
celebrated by attending the meeting.
Ladies Legion Auxiliary will purchase two
wreaths for placement at the cenotaph on
Remembrance Day.
There was no attendance draw winner so
it will be $6 for the November meeting.
