Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute hears speaker on battered wives
Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute held their
September meeting in Colborne Township
Hall at Carlow on Thursday, September 27
•at1:45p.m.
In the absence of the president, the first
vice-president, Mrs. A. Stoll, presided and
opened with the meeting. All joined in the
.Opening Ode, tjle Mary Stewart Collect and
0 Canada, with Mrs. A. Stoll at the piano.
' Institute members from Auburn, Dungan-
non, Goderich and Londesboro were in-
troduced and welcomed.
The roll call, "Bring a favorite muffin
recipe for exchange", brought several good
recipes.
The secretary, Mrs, G. Kaitting, read the
minutes of the last meeting and the cor-
respondence and business was attended to.
Mrs. H. Brindley and Mrs. J. Horton were
named as delegates to attend the fall rally in
Wingham on October 1.
It was announced that the London Area
Convention would be held in St. Marys on
November 1 and 2; a stress control
workshop would be held by the Huron Coun-
ty Health Unit on November 8 from 9:30
a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maitland Golf and
Country Club, Goderich; and the Huron
County Historical Society dinner meeting
'would be held Wednesday, October 24 at 6:30
p.m. in,Brucefield Church hall.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food in-
formed members that the 1984 recipient of
the Huron County WI scholarship is Brenda
Chambers of R.R. 4 Wingham (Bluevale 11
Club). The Ministry also announced a
smocking workshop for Wednesday, Oc-
tober 31 or Thursday, November 1 at Huron -
view, and a Christmas Cooking in the
Microwave Oven demonstration on Tues-
day, November 13 at Victoria Public School,
Goderich and on Monday, November 26 at
the Legion Hall in Seaforth for a fee of $3
(pre -registration is necessary).
It was announced that Mrs. H. Brindley,
Tiger Dunlop's curator, will look after hav-
ing the Institute's books microfilmed.
An invitation was received from the
Goderich Women's Institute to attend their
meeting Thursday, October 4 at 2 p.m. in
MacKay Centre. An invitation was also
received from "the Agburn Women's In-
stitute to attend their $icentennial Tea on
Tuesday, October 16 at 1 p.m.
A thank you to all was read from Mrs. R.
Buchanan for the life membership and
badge she received. Mrs. ' A. Stoll had
presented these to Mrs. Buchanan prior to
the meeting and she received hearty ap-
plause on the announcement.
Members and guests were treated to an
accordian solo by Mrs. Linskill of Dungan-
non, and Mrs. Margaret Taylor of
Londesboro recited a humorous number.
Mrs. R. Buchanan introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Hollie Kiehl of Wingham,
from the Crisis Centre. She showed slides
and spoke Lin the subject of "Battered
Wives '. The slides and the talk both proved
very enlightening.
Mrs. Buchanan thanked the speaker and
presented her with a gift.
After singing "Grace" and "The Queen",
all enjoyed lunch served by the committee
of Mrs. R. Brock, Mrs. A. Montgomery and
Mrs. J. Horton.
Mrs. R. Buchanan and Mrs. E. Bogie were
in charge of the produce and homemade
baking table which was well patronized by
those in attendance.
The next meeting of Tiger Dunlop W.I.
will be held Thursday, October 25. Mrs. A.
Stoll and Mrs. E. Bogie will be in charge- nd
the topic will be "Education and Cultw)al
Affairs".

the night will be "The Loyalists and the

Walkerton Heritage Fair takes place Satur-

and quality traditional crafts for sale by ar-

official opening ceremonies of Forster's Bridge on County
Road 31 north of King's Highway No. 8 at 10:00 a.m. local
