"Hydro staff will soon be contacting local elected and appointed officials and members of the public to discuss the study and to identify their interest," said Hydro Chairman Tom Campbell. ...We expect that the studies will be com- pleted in the early part of next year and will allow us to proceed to the next stage of an environmental assessment," he said. He noted that the results of the earlier studies, completed in late 1983 on routes from Bruce to the Barrie area and into Lon- don from the east, were not being discarded, but were being supplemented by the addi- tional studies being carried out in the Bruce to London area. Bruce Unit no. 6 in service Ontario Hydro's newest and largest generating unit is now in commercial ser- vice. Unit number 6 at Bruce Nuclear Generating Station "B" was declared in ser- vice Friday, September 14, just 56 days after the unit first achieved full electrical output. During the month of September, Unit number 6 has been operating at a net capacity factor of 96.7 per cent, which places it in the same world class as Hydro's other large nuclear units. Unit number 5 is expected to go into operation later this year and the four unit station is scheduled for completion in 1987. 1
