ridal shower held for Faye Seers at Knox
Pink and wine coloured streamers, wed-
ding bells and a decorated parasol made an
attractive setting for a bridal shower for
Faye Seers of London in Knox United
Church Sunday school room last Tuesday
evening. Mrs. Larry Johnston pinned cor-
sages on the bride -elect, her mother, Mrs.
William Seers and sister, Mrs. Allen Reid of
Hensall. Miss Julie Glenn was in charge of
the registration book.
Mrs. Tina Empey was chairman for the
program and welcomed everyone. A lively
sing -song was led by Mrs. Greg Park and
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock gave a reading
about a western wedding .100 years ago.
Mrs. Larry Johnston conducted two contests
and these were won by Mrs. Oliver Ander-
son and Mrs. Marjorie McDougall. Mrs.
John Beyersbergen of R.R. 2, Lucknow,
gave a reading, The Passing of the Pot. Mrs. Free on Egmont Street North.
Maurice Bean gave some household hints__ Mr. and Mrs. Stanley McNall of Welland
and readings, Take Time and How to are visiting with Mrs. Torn Johnston and
Miss Laura Phillips this week.
Mrs. Pearl Rollinson and Reg Cowper of
Toronto visited last Thursday with Mr. and
Mrs. Emerson Rodger.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Allen of Agincourt
spent last weekend with Mrs. Beth Lansing.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Weston of Toronto
visited last weekend with her mother, Mrs.
Mary Rollinson and brother, Murray
Nesbit.
The leader of the group, Mrs. Glen
i. Webster, conducted the business of the Unit.
6 It was announced that the Christian Blind
AUBURN open {� of West Africa speaker will be at the
open meeting on September 26 at 8 p.m.
A successful miscellaneous sale was then
conducted by Mrs. Elliott Lapp. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Ball and Mrs. Chamney.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin and Mrs. Elva
Straughan spent last weekend in Meaford
with Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Robertson and
attended the wedding of Terry Fitzgerald
and Douglas Robertson.
Welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lubbers
who took up residence in Auburn in the
former house of the late Mr. and Mrs. Orval
Preserve a Husband. Mrs. Lynn Armstrong
gave a First Aid Kit contest and the winner
was Mrs. Roy Deer.
The bride -elect was escorted to the plat-
form by Mrs. John Beyersbergen, Mrs.
Seers was escorted by Mrs. William Robert-
son and Mrs. Reed by Mrs. Robert Arthur.
An address of congratulations was read
by Mrs. Beyersbergen and gifts were
,presented by Julie Glenn and Karen
Whetstone. Mrs. Allen Craig pinned the
bows and ribbons onto a nurse's apron and it
was tied on the bride -elect.
Faye thanked her many friends and
relatives for the gifts she received and in-
vited all to her reception at the White Carna-
tion on October 13.
Lunch was served by the neighbours. The
decorating had been done by Mrs. Allen
Craig, Mrs. William Craig and Mrs. Al
Luna.

J.K. Young of Mitchell and his son, Robert
Young of Stratford visited last Tuesday with
Mrs. Tom Johnston and Miss Laura
Phillips.
Mrs. Celia Taylor of Goderich visited last
Tuesday with several friends and relatives
in the village.

UCW News
Unit II of Knox United Church Women
met for their September meeting at the
home of Mrs. Ethel Ball. Mrs. Ball and Mrs.
Gordon Chamney were in charge of the
meeting. They led in the devotional period
with the theme, "Love".
Mrs. Chamney gave a very interesting
and informative message on her trip to
Ireland this summer.
Church News
"There Is No Other Way", was the subject
of Mr. Gary Shuttleworth's sermon last Sun-
day morning at Knox United Church.
The organist was Mrs. Gordon Gross and
the pianist was Mrs. Marjorie McDougall.
They played duets before the service and
while the offering was received by
Lawrence Plaetzer, Ken Ramsay, Gordon
Gross and Murray Rollinson.
The Junior Choir, under the direction of
Mrs. Allan Webster and Mrs. Gordon Gross,
sang, "Come and Praise the Lord our
King". The Junior congregation was in the
charge of Mrs. Wayne Durnin and Mrs.
Mariano Bakker.
It was announced that the anniversary
service will be held on October 14 at 11:15
a.m. and the Craigellen Singers of Goderich
will bring special music. Mr. Gary Shut-
tleworth will be in charge and the Reverend
Gordon Pickell of Goderich wilhadmiinister
the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Mrs. Marjorie McDougall and Mrs.
Robert Peck were .hostesses for the
September meeting of the Auburn Women's
Tnctitnte held last Tuesday morning at the
home of Mrs. Marjorie McDougall. Coffee
and snacks were served when the members
arrived at 10 a.m. The meeting was in the
charge of the president, Mrs. Eleanor Brad -
nock and was opened with the Ode, the Mary
Stewart Collect and 0 Canada with Mrs.
Emerson Rodger at the piano.
The minutes of the July meeting were ap-
proved as read by the secretary, --Mrs.
Robert Peck. Mrs. Bradnock thanked Mrs.
Peck and Mrs. Tom Lawrence fora going
to
Huronview for the birthday party and
thanked those who made cup cakes. Mrs.
Lawrence reported on the birthday party.
It was announced that the County Rally
will be held in Wingliam on October 1 and
Mrs. Robert Peck, Mrs. Emerson Rodger,
Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs. Tom Jardin, Mrs.
Marjorie McDougall and Mrs. Eleanor
Bradnock will be going. The London Area
meeting will be held in St. Marys on
November 1 and Mrs. Leonard Archam-
bault will be the delegate. Mrs. Robert Peck
is in charge of the gift for the sale table.
An invitation to attend the Tiger Dunlop
W.I. meeting on September 27 at 1:45 p.m.
was accepted.
Mrs. Leonard Archambault reported on
the 4-H computer course and Mrs. Lillian.
Letherland gave the card report and read
the thank -you notes she had received. Mrs.
Frank Raithby reported on the labels
received.
The roll call was answered by naming one
thing that should be changed in the W.I. or
the community.
The Convener of Resolutions, Mrs. Tom
Lawlor, gave a paper on Resolutions and
Mrs. Marjorie McDougall gave a reading,
The Patchwork Quilt.
The collection was taken by Christine
Lapp and plans were made for the next
meeting which will take the form of a
Bicentennial meeting with Mrs. Tom Hag-
gitt and Mrs. Donald Haines in charge of the
old-fashioned program. It will be a dessert
luncheon at 1 p.m. on October 16.
Mrs. McDougall played a piano solo.
Holmesville Sunday school students
go on five -mile Terry Fox walk
HOLMESVILLE - Worship Service was
held in Holmesville United Church with a
good attendance. Mr. Don Moffat of
Brucefield was in charge, The Sunday
School Choir sang for the service. Bill
Batkin and Murray Lobb received the offer-
ing.
The Sunday School of Holmesville Church
went on the Terry Fox walk in Clinton. One
little fellow only 5 -years -old walked the five
mile route. Congratulations to all who went
on the walk. ]
Holmesville United Chiirch will hold their
Anniversary service on Se\tember 30. It will

The Enterprising Seniors recently met for
their Anniversary meeting. John Semple
chaired the meeting. Mrs. Jean Lobb played
the piano for the opening. Ross and Mildred
showed pictures of the Yukon and North
West Territories.
Margaret Middleton supplied a box of ap-
ples and a draw was made with guest of the
evening Berneice McIlwain being the win-
ner.
Gerald Orr also brought along a cake
from his daughter Cathy's wedding. Lunch
was served and everyone enjoyed the
special Anniversary cake and ice cream.
