(Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Town approves sale of land Goderich town council has approved the sale of 0.2 acres of land in the town's Industrial Park to Ed Hagle of Goderich Plymouth Chrysler for the price of $1,250, with the stipulation that Hagle clean up the property and -pay all legal costs resulting from the sale. The Goderich Economic Development Committee originally recommended that Hagle's offer to purchase the land be turned down, saying that it was worth more than the suggested $1,250 price. Council asked the committee to invite Hagle to a meeting to explain his proposal and then reconsider the offer. At this meeting, Hagle said he would have the property cleared and filled so it would have a dean level appearance, enhancing in turn the appearance of Suncoast Drive, the Huron Road area and the premises of Goderich Plymouth Chrysler. Fine for peddlars Hawkers and peddlars who contravene a town by-law which requires them to pay $200 for a license to operate here, could have to pay a $1,000 maximum fine. The by-law originally required payment of a $50 fine for contravention but since this amount was less than the amount required for a licence, council decided to amend it to a $1,000 maximum. A minimum amount was not stated. GODERICH SIGNALmSTAR, WIDNES iAY? The plan is modelled after one devised by the provincial government to be used as a guideline for cities and towns across the province. It has been streamlined to meet the specific needs of Goderich. It is designed as an overall plan to complement other emergency plans which have been developed by the hospital and various businesses and industries here. The plan has been approximately a year in the making, with Police Chief Pat King acting as the resource person on a committee consisting of some council members and representatives of business and industry. The next step will be to test the plan. "It's no good passing the plan and then leaving it. The whole thing will have to be tested to find out it's shortcomings," says Chief King. Fence by-law for town to receive further study A by-law to prescribe the height and description of fences within the town, including fences enclosing privately owned outdoor swimming pools, has been sent back to the Works Committee for further study. 1 Councillor Glen Carey said he was particularly concerned about the wording of a clause in the by-law which states, "No ,_lltc 111th \rtnuaI Vail 1•:}?rttnn11 Fnunda.inn Ciderfest at the histntic V".AN 1a,y1O.A1) IIO1'til, Egmondville, Ont. 2 Km. He said this amounts to the town `appropriating' one metre of each property affected. Ken Hunter, Commissioner of Works, explained that the clause was put in the by- law to prevent the snow -plow from hitting fences which are too close to town property.
