Midway fans get bargain
rates at Western Fair
Midway fans are in for a real deal at,
Western Fair, '84 - in fact, bargain rates or
special options are available on no less than
four of the ten days!
On opening day, Friday, September 7 and
again on closing day, Sunday,Septernber• 16,
fairgoers can get their thrill -full of action
with a bargain ''pay -one -price" option. Buy
a special identification bracelet at any mid-
way ticket booth from opening until 8 p.rn.
either day, and you can ride every ride, see
every show - then do it all again - all day
long until the midway closes! The price for
the bracelet is $6 on Friday, $8 on Sunday,
and the pay -one -price special applies to both
ithe adult and kiddlyland midways.
Of course, universal midway coupons will
be available as usual at 30 cents for a single
ticket, or in money -saving packages priced
at $5 or $10. The $10 volume purchase
represents a 14.5 per cent saving over the
single ticket price.
Go to the fair on Tuesday, September 11 or
Thursday, September 13 and you can take
advantage of the ';Two -For One" offer. Pick
a partner - bring the kids - and two can ride
any ride' or see any show for the regular
single price. The two-for-one deal is in effect
from midway opening to closing. Live
animal rides and midway games are the on-
ly exclusions fromthe "Pay -One -Price" and
••Two -For -One" offers. •
The adult midway this year features 23
glittering rides and shows, including three
brand-new rides never seen here before.
-Force 10", "1001 Nights" and "The Ex-
plorer" will make their debut to thrill and
chill •fans, and the very popular Skydiver
and Monster return after a long hiatus.
Meanwhile, a separate area accom-
modates Kiddyland, a scaled-down' version
of the giant midway, where more than a
score of rides wait to delight tiny tots.
If action and excitement are what you're
after, get in on the fun at the Western Fair
midway. It's all happening for 10 great days
(and nights, September 7 to 16.
General admission i ages 13 and over I on
weekdays before 4 p.m. remains unchanged
at $3 per person for the third straight year.
After 4 o'clock and on weekends, general ad-
mission is $5. Children ages five to 12 pay
just one dollar at all times ( a 25 -cent reduc-
tion from the 1983 price), and those under
five are admitted free of charge.

The 1984 edition of the Western F,Ir War-
riors Day Parade promises to be the best
ever!
A total of 10 bands, 21 color guards, 10 col-
or parties and 20 marching units will wend
their way through the streets of London to
the fairgrounds on Saturday, September 9.
In all, 1,300 marchers are expected to take
part in this annual tribute to those who have
given their lives to guard our freedom.
The parade will form at the Boyle Corn-
. munity Centre at the corner of Princess and
Charlotte Streets and will move nut at,12:15
p.m. The route followed is west on Princess
Avenue to Quebec Street,, south to Dundas
Street, west to Ontario Street and south to
the King Street entrance to the fairgrounds.
The units will march directly to the grands-
tand where they will be judged in various
categories.

Nationals at Hully Gully
The final of the 12and 250 Expert Na-
tional on Labour Day; September 3, will be
the most competiti a and best outdoor
motocross event ever 11d in Canadian com-
petition. The top 1 riders in Canadian
motocross will be at ully Gully, near Var-
na, competing in the final round of the 1984
Expert Championships. This includes
Canada's Number one plateholder Ross
"Rollerball" Pederson of Medicine Hat,
Alberta.
Pederson will be attempting to win his
fifth consecutive National title. However,
this may be harder than ever to accomplish
this year. Along with Pederson, Mike Harn-
den of Oshawa, the number two ranked
rider plus others like Pierre Couture of
Drummondville, Quebec, and Tim Krough
of North Vancouver, B.C., will be riding
alongside some of the best Ontario has to of-
fer.
Sarnia's Dave Beatty, one of the biggest
surprises in the Expert Class has shown an
exceptional performance and is currently in
fifth position overall in the 1984 National
standings.
Scott Wilson of London, Ontario, one of the
top Senior riders in 1983 has moved up into
the ranks of the Expert riders and has

C'1). Brig. -Gen. Bourgeois was born in
Saskatchewan and joined the R.C.A.F. in
1952. Following training as an air navigator,
he was posted to St. Hubert, Quebec, where
he served with 425 All Weather Fighter
Squadron and later as air cadet liaison of{
ficer.
Brig. -Gen. Bourgeois subsequently served
in various foreign postings in France, Ger-
many and the United States. He was pro-
moted to his present rank in 1979 and assum-
ed the duties of deputy commander. 24

pointed Commander, Canadian Forces
Training System at CFB Trenton, the post

already proven himself as one of the top con-
tenders. Wilson, currently running in ninth
spot is separated from the top five riders by
only 13 points.
Hully Gully track builder and last year's
number three placed Ontario Open Expert,
Chuck Collins of Varna, will be using his
knowledge of his own track on September 3
in an atempt to fight off the challenge of
Pederson and the others.
At the Final Round' of the Expert Na-
tionals, spectators can also see the top
Senior and Schoolboy riders hit speeds of up
to 120 km/h and flying as much as 100 feet
through the air over Hully Gully's specially
designed National Track.
During the Nationals intermission, Greg
Balchin will put on a snowmobile on water
exhibition, keeping motorsport spectators
on their feet all afternoon. Twenty-three-
year-old Balchin, who was the 1983 Cana-
dian and World Water Cross Champion, has
driven his 521cc 9700 Blizzard snowmobile
over 40 miles across open water.
He was the 1983 Triple Crown Champion in
watercrossing. During one of the three
rounds held in Wolf Lake, Quebec he set the
world record of 46 miles.
For those who enjoy motorsports, Dully
Gully's Labour Day shows will be a must.

The Province of Ontario's public tribute to
its Summer Olympics athletes September
13, will be held in conjunction with the of-
ficial opening of the "A Celebration of
Amateur Sport in Ontario" permanent
display in Queen's Park, tourism and
Recreation Minister Reuben Baetz has an-
nounced.
"The Los Angeles Olympics were the best
ever for Canada," said Baetz. "We invite
the people of Ontario to celebrate the great
contribution Ontario athletes made to that
success. On this day we will be expressing
our pride toward our Summer Olympians,
and we will be 'recognizing the
achievements of the many athletes who
have come before them with the permanent
display in the Legislature. It will be a great
day for amateur sports in Ontario."
The 233 Ontario athletes who competed in
the Sumner Olympics in Los Angeles are
being invited to the celebration on the front
grounds of Queen's Park. Each will be in-
troduced by Bob Secord. assistant deputy.

A male and female athlete, selecte from
the 44 Qntario athletes who returned from
the Games with medals, including s'x in-
dividual gold and one team gold, wil also
speak.
The tribute begins at 11:30 a.m. 'with
music from a band of the Royal Canaidian
Regiment. Introduction of the athletes, plus
the 68 coaches, managers and support staff
from Ontario who participated in the Olym-
pics, begins at noon.
Immediately prior to the public
ceremony, Davis, Baetz and several
athletes and officials will open the Celebra-
tion of Amateur Sport display in the East
Wing of the'Ontario Legislature. The display
will highlight accomplishments in various
international sports by Ontarians.
Following the public celebration, the
athletes will attend a private reception
given by lieutenant Uoverngr John B. Aird.
