Exchange student here from Acapulco

Luz Maria Mendoza, 18, of Acapulco
arrived in Goderich on A,igust 20 and will
spend the next year here as a Rotary
exchange student.
Luz Maria will live with Norm and Nancy
Pickell until January when she will move on
to live'with another host family. In total, she
will live with three different Rotary host
families during her stay in Canada.
Luz Maria speaks both Spanish and
° English and will be enrolled in Grade 13 at
(:1)('l in September. Until that time, she will
have taken in such events and sites as the
Blyth Summer Festival, Canada's
Wonderland, the Zurich Bean Festival, the
CNE and African Lion Safari.
At home in Acapulco, Luz Maria has three
older sisters, six nephews and three nieces.
Her father is a past president of. the
Acapulco Rotary Club and is the Acapulco
distributor for a company based in' Mexico
City.
Luz Maria's hobbies include painting,
music and reading. She also enjoys playing
volleyball and travelling. She says she
already knew much about the U.S. through'
books and television but knew very little
about Canada and that is why she chose to
come here.
A more in-depth interview with Luz Maria
will be carried in this newspaper after she
has been here several months and has had
time to form her impressions of our country.
• The Goderich Rotary Club's outbound
exchange student is , Wesley Delve of
Clinton. He left August 16 fora year in Vitry-
le-Francois, France.
The Goderich Club is now looking for
applications ' for outbound exchange
students for the 1985-86 school year. These
students can be from any part of Huron
County and must be between the ages of 16
and 18. For further information, contact Dr.
Bruce Thomasson, Goderich Rotary Youth
Exchange Chairman.
Dungannon team wins tournament
Congratulations to the Dungannon Blue
Devils slo-pitch team who competed in the
Kingsbridge tournament held on the
weekend at the Dungannon diamonds. These
boys went unbeaten in all four games played
and collected a first place win in the 13
. division. Team members, are Scott Rivett,
Dwayne Brown, Tim Hodges, Tom Park,
fiord Chapman, Doug Dougherty, Gary
Hakkers, Dale Maclnnis, Wayne Park, Phil
Young, Rick Patterson, Jamie Bere and Ron
