Local chapter surveys local candidates
Dear Editor:,
Our local chapter of the Election
Prio►ities Project: An Educatignal Project
on Peace and Development has surveyed
the three candidates in the Riding of Huron -
Bruce concerning Federal Policy with
regards to aid to developing countries being
reduced because of the enormous amounts -
of money being spent on military systems,
and nuclear disarmament. This is a national
non-partisan project to survey all can-
didates and inform the electorate on their
positions.
We feel the importance of these issues is
reflected by the time and attention being
given it by the national party leaders and
media. And we know voters in this riding
are concerned because over two-thirds
voted yes for verifiable bilateral nuclear
disarmament in the two municipalities
( Town of Seaforth and Ashfield Township)
who included the referendum question on
their municipal election ballot in 1981.
The results of our survey follow:
I. If elected,Jwould you support tional
and international efforts to reduce litary
budgets and to reallocate the funds t meet
human needs? Bolton: yes /Cardi : yes

overseas development assistance to the
world's poorest people in countries whose
governments are commited to meeting the

5. Do you support full and immediate
public disclosure of all Canadian military
exports? Bolton: yes /Cardiff: no
/McDonald: undecided.

Defense Industry Productivity Program
and the funding of efforts to convert from
military . to non-mitary production?

Comments based on hearsay
or gossip says Mayor Palmer ..
To the editor: -
I
-I was amazed at Elsa Haydon's judge-
ment calls on me and council members as
expressed in her column in last week's
Signal -Star. Since Elsa was not present at
the council meeting in question, her com-
ments can only be based on hearsay or
gossip and certainly beneath her dignity.
