Park plaque should recognize
efforts of Carroll and Haydon
Dear Editor,
Last Saturday ( August 11), I had the
pleasure of returning to Goderich to see
relatives and friends, and found the town
looking very well groomed and busy.
Council is to be congratulated on the
extensive improvenients to St.
Christopher's' Beach. It is a beautiful and
inviting place to enjoy the pleasures good
old Lake Huron has to offer.
However, on reading the plaque there. I
was disappointed that the names of Paul
Carroll and Elsa Haydon did not appear on
it; It was Paul who first saw the potential of
St. Christopher's Beach and Elsa who
carried on improvements after Paul left
Council. I feel that the hours of hard work
these two people put into the development
should have been acknowledged.
Sincerely,
Mamie (MacKay) Woods,

Safetyf the innocent should take
precedence over rights of criminals
Dear Editor:
Citizens United for Safety & Justice
(CUSJ) is a registered society in British Col-
umbia whose aims and objectives revolve
around our belief that "the safety of
children and all innocent citizens must take
precedence over the rights of criminals",
and we are not affiliated with any political
party.
Since our inception three years ago we
have, through printed material and cor-
respondence with politicians and officials,
realized the great danger imposed on socie-
ty through our criminal justice system. The
present early release programs places
dangerous sex and violent criminals into un-
suspecting communities and we feel it is
mandatory that changes in the law be in-
stituted to correct this serious injustice to
society. We also believe that when polls in-
dicate that 80% of Canaclians are in favour
of the death penalty, in a humane manner,
for 1st degree or premeditated murder, the
politicians elected by those same people
should act accordingly.
As a Federal election is underway, we
would like to remind citizens of the impor-
tance of exercising our democratic right to
cast our secret ballot, and please do so with
knowledge. Whether it be an _election at the
municipal, provincial or federal level, you
have the right to question the candidates on
their personal views or their party's stand
on issues that concern you.
If the majority is to be heard, every vote
counts. Remember, it is your communitye
your province and your country. The suc-
cessfully elected candidate will be your
representative.
On Tuesday, September 4th, vote as you
please, but please vote!
Sincerely,
Inge Clausen,
Vice -Chairman,
Citizens United for
Safety and Justice,
Box 779, Duncan, B.C. V9L 3Y1

quality of our families' lifestlye. -

party full of smooth rhetoric., or empty
promises, or a dismal past record, or

is a success
Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Goderich members of the
Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, I
would like to express our wholehearted
thanks for the efforts put forth by our
Goderich Raceway Association, the
Horsemen and the volunteers who supported
our 1984 Race Against M.S. Although we
don't have the total amount realized, we are
assured the race was an outstanding
success.
I would also like to give special thanks to
our Signal -Star for their co-operation and
coverage of this event which was
instrumental in enabling us to inform the
public about the race, the efforts of the
Horsemen on our behalf and the effects of
M.S.
Special congratulations to Mr. Vanstone
for winning our race ' and to Catherine
Bandeen who was the winner of our 50-50
draw.
Once again thanks to all.

this or that popular cause, as the polls
indicate they should.
We want to vote for a party and
candidates that we think will work in the
best interests of all working Canadians, and
for Canada as a whole. A party with
consistent, intelligent and humane solutions
to the problems, the very serious problems
we face as a society. A party with a proven
record of spearheading social programs like
medicare, old age pensions, unemployment
insurance and Canada pension programs,
that we have come to consider essential to
any humane and civilized government.
So we won't be throwing away our vote on
September 4. We won't waste our chance to
work towards a decent lifestyle for ordinary
Canadians. That's 'why we'll be voting for
Ed Broadbent and the New Democratic
Party of Canada:
Sincerely,
Bill and Kathy Desmond,
