Park plaque should recognize efforts of Carroll and Haydon Dear Editor, Last Saturday ( August 11), I had the pleasure of returning to Goderich to see relatives and friends, and found the town looking very well groomed and busy. Council is to be congratulated on the extensive improvenients to St. Christopher's' Beach. It is a beautiful and inviting place to enjoy the pleasures good old Lake Huron has to offer. However, on reading the plaque there. I was disappointed that the names of Paul Carroll and Elsa Haydon did not appear on it; It was Paul who first saw the potential of St. Christopher's Beach and Elsa who carried on improvements after Paul left Council. I feel that the hours of hard work these two people put into the development should have been acknowledged. Sincerely, Mamie (MacKay) Woods, London: Loan cupboard set up for cancer patients by . DPINION .J GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22,1984 -PAGE+ 5 Safetyf the innocent should take precedence over rights of criminals Dear Editor: Citizens United for Safety & Justice (CUSJ) is a registered society in British Col- umbia whose aims and objectives revolve around our belief that "the safety of children and all innocent citizens must take precedence over the rights of criminals", and we are not affiliated with any political party. Since our inception three years ago we have, through printed material and cor- respondence with politicians and officials, realized the great danger imposed on socie- ty through our criminal justice system. The present early release programs places dangerous sex and violent criminals into un- suspecting communities and we feel it is mandatory that changes in the law be in- stituted to correct this serious injustice to society. We also believe that when polls in- dicate that 80% of Canaclians are in favour of the death penalty, in a humane manner, for 1st degree or premeditated murder, the politicians elected by those same people should act accordingly. As a Federal election is underway, we would like to remind citizens of the impor- tance of exercising our democratic right to cast our secret ballot, and please do so with knowledge. Whether it be an _election at the municipal, provincial or federal level, you have the right to question the candidates on their personal views or their party's stand on issues that concern you. If the majority is to be heard, every vote counts. Remember, it is your communitye your province and your country. The suc- cessfully elected candidate will be your representative. On Tuesday, September 4th, vote as you please, but please vote! Sincerely, Inge Clausen, Vice -Chairman, Citizens United for Safety and Justice, Box 779, Duncan, B.C.
