Ronald Feaganrace set for Thursday
The sixthedition of the . Ron Feagan
Memorial Pace will be held August 16 at the
Goderich Raceway. The Memorial Pace is'
dedicated to the memory of a Goderich boy
who started his career on the Goderich Race
Track and who went on to become a giant in
his sport and profession - a member of the
Canadian Harness Racing Hall of Fame.
Ron Feagan dominated Canadian Harness
Racing from 1965 until his death in 1979. His
career is a litany of records and firsts.
With 3.063 career wins and over $6.6
million in career purses, Ron Feagan
became the first Canadian Harness Driver
to win 200 races in a single season. He was
also the first Canadian driver to win $500,000
in purses in a single season. Ron Feagan
was the youngest Canadian driver to go in
less than two minutes.
For 11 consecutive seasons he averaged
200 wins. Ron was the leading money winner
on the Ontario Jockey Club circuit 24 times.
Feagan gained early fame and
recognition as owner with grandfather,
George, and trainer and tdriver of H A
Meadowland whom he guided to victory in
the 1966 Canadian Pacing Derby. His last
race was December 15, 1978 when he drove
Crash Landing, sired by H A Meadowland to
victory at Greenwood Raceway. Ron
Feagan died January, 1979 at age 36. The
