Kirkey's and French Cleaners tie for first place

Canada Company,, clinched first place in
the Dunlop Division of the Goderich In-
dustrial Fastball League with a 4 - 2 victory.
-over the Orioles last Wednesday.
Ron Willis pitched a six -hitter and hit a
triple which broke a 2 - 2 tie in the fourth inn-
ing to lead Canada Company to victory.
Brian Shewfelt led all hitters with two hits
for Canada Company, who are still battling
for first place overall.
Meanwhile, Kirkey's and French
Cleaners are deadlocked with identical 13 - 9
records in the Maitland Division. French
defeated Hotel Bedford 11- 2 and Hayter's 6
- 5 while Kirkey's defeated Denomme's 3 - 2
and lost 5,- 4 to the Orioles.
Bob Johnston and George Sutton each hit ,
home runs to lead French to their convinc-
ing victory over Bedford. Pitcher John
Bogie fired a four -hitter in picking up the
victory. Sutton and Brian MacKenzie each
had three hits and Bob Johnston had two to
lead French's 11 -hit attack.
French scored an unearned run in the bot-
tom of the eighth inning to defeat Hayter's 6
- 5. Jim Martin led French's seven -hit attack
with a perfect four fo. four game. Phil
Petrie had three hits for Hayter's while
Warren Watt and Myles Murdock each had
two hits for Hayter's. Hayter's had 10 hits
but left nine runners on base.
Kirkey's also scored a run in extra inning
to defeat Denomme's 3 - 2. The winning run
came when Paul Kelly singled home Dan
Maillet from third base. Hot -hitting Bob Orr
led Kirkey's offensively, getting two of their
five hits. John Hoy and Chris Connor led
Denomme's with two hits each.
Kirkey's were then defeated in extra inn-
ings by the Orioles 5 - 4 on an unearned run.
Steve Haggitt, Kevin Meriam, Steve
Frayne, and John Warr each had two hits
for the Orioles. Paul Kelly and Dan. Maillet
each had two hits for Kirkey's. Maillet's hits
included a first -inning solo home run.

Hully Gully hosts houseleague motocross action
Another full day of exciting houseleague
motocross action took place at Hully Gully
on Saturday, August 3.
The Expert Nationals track was run in a
counter -clockwise direction, which made it
more competitive.
Brian Blackburn of Exeter and Richard
Little of Atwood fought in two motos for a
first overall position.
Little overtook Blackburn in the ',second
moto with one lap to go to take first overall
in the Junior 250 class.
The next houseleague will be on 'Saturday,
August 18.

The 1984 Expert Series opener at Hully
Gully (Varna) Ontario on June 17th has
been rescheduled to Labour Day,
September 3rd. Torrential rain turned the
well-groomed track into a quagmire, mak-
ing it impossible to conduct the races.
Hully Gully will now be the site of the final
round for the 125 and 250 classes. The Open
Class will complete their Phampionship
series at Copetown, Ontario on Sunday,
September 2nd. Other rounds will take place
at Kelowna,, B.C. on August 12th, i✓dmonton,
Alta., August 19th and Austin, Man. on
August 26th.

.Cadets fund raising event
Approximately 1,200 cadets from across
Canada held a fund raising event last
weekend for London's Ronald MacDonald
House. The cadets hosted a number of
games and activities at Camp Ipperwash, to
aid with the funding of tlieeroiect.
The goal has been set at $900,000 and
$700,000 has been raised to date. The ground
breaking day has been set for August 22.
