Hay rides are part of fun
J.J. Wright developed a family hotel at
the Point Farm where he stressed
wholesomeness, health, exercise and
recreation. In his advertising, he stated that
the Point Farm was a "farm house on a
large scale, where the fresh products of the
dairy, field and garden, coupled with the
pure and bracing air, will form the .principal
specialty ..."
• The Point Farm has long since disap-
peared but the tradition of recreation and
relaxation continues at Point Farms Provin-

in Goderich at age 43

....Doom JAMES WATT ROBERTJAMESWATT •
Robert James Watt of Goderich died at his
residence on Sunday, August 5 at the age of
43.
He was born in Seaforth on Jltly 24, 1941 to
Leopold and Jessie (McVittie) Watt.
He worked as a shipper with Domtar
(Sifto Salt Mines) and was a member of
Bethel Pentecostal Assembly in Goderich.
He had a great appreciation for sacred
music and sang in many local churches.
He married' Audrey Elaine Hoy of '
Goderich in Clinton on May 13, 1967. .She
survives him.
Also surviving him are two sons, Steven
and David, both at home; one brother,
Archie L. Watt of Blyth; and one sister, Mrs.
Gerald (Jessie) Addison of Toronto.
A funeral service was held Wednesday,
August 8 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Pentecostal
Assembly in Goderich. Pastor Gerald
McMillan of Bethel Pentecostal Assembly,
Pastor Jack West' of St. Catharines and
Pastor Austin Gedcke officiated. Pastor
Paul Hoy of Mississauga gave the eulogy.
Lionel and Iris Reeves were soloists.
Pallbearers were Garth Cunningham,
Garth McClinchey, Lloyd McClinchey, John
Philipson, Earl Hoy and Ron Hoy.
Flower bearers were Warren Watt, Scott
Watt, Stuart Watt and Jim Watt.
Interment was in the Colborne Cemetery.
Stiles Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
MARJORY REBECCA BOYCE
Marjory Rebecca Boyce of Huronveiw
died in Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital on Monday, August 6 at the age of
92.
She was born in Stanley Township on
January 25, 1892 to Wilson and Catherine
(McClinchey) Armstrong.
She married Victor Lorne Boyce of
Stanley Township in Goderich on September
19, 1922. He predeceased her.
The late Mrs. Boyce was a member of St.
George's Anglican Church, Goderich.
She is survived by one son, Elgin of
Goderich; two daughters, Mrs. George
(Hazel) Schwanz of Sarnia and Mrs. Steve
(Dolly) Slienfield of Ottawa; one sister,
Margaret Armstrong Boyce; six
grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sisters and
five brothers.
A funeral service was held at Stiles
Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 8 at
3:30 p.m. The Reverend Douglas Pitts
officiated.
Pallbearers were Ken Boyce, Jim Boyce,
Harvey Boyce, Ernie Good, Dan Schwanz
and Al Lockyer.
Interment was in the Maitland Cemetery,
Goderich.

MRS.
AMY COOPER
Mrs. Amy Cooper of Goderich died in
Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on
Saturday, August 11 at the age of 82.
She was born in Clinton on March 8, 1902 to
Harry and Margaret (Trouse) Gould.
She was a member of North Street United
Church in Goderich and Rebekah Lodge no.
89.
She married Earl Cooper 'in Clinton in
1927. He survives her.
Also surviving her are two daughters,
Mrs. Arthur ( Phyllis) Sawyer of Florida and
Mrs. Norman (Sandra) Leddy of Goderich;
one brother, George Gould of London; three
sisters, Irene Slater of Manitoba, Mrs. Pearl
Quinn of Toronto and Mrs. Vera Crich of
Clinton; four grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister and one
brother.
A funeral service was held at Stiles
Funeral Home on Monday, August 13 at 2
p.m. The Reverend John D.M. of Victoria
Street United Church officiated.
Pallbearers were ,Lloyd Bond, Kenneth
Trewartha, Jim Woodcock, Mark Fay, Bob
Bardawill and Austin Hartman.
The Rebekah Lodge no. 89 held a service
at the funeal home on Sunday evening,
August 12 at 7 p.m.
Intermentwas,in Clinton Cemetery.
WAYNE JOSEPH COURTNEY
Wayne Joseph Courtney, 97 Edgehill
Drive, N.W., Calgary, Alberta and formerly
,of Kingsbridge, drowned on Sunday, July 1
in the Kicking Horse ,River, 10 kilometers
east of Golden, British Columbia, when his
kayak flipped over. Born on August 1; 1955,
he was 28 years old. His body has not been
found.
He is survived by his parents, Joe and
Teresa Courtney of R.R. 1, Dungannon; five
brothers, Gary and his wife Chris of Blyth,
Brian and his wife, Jeannette of Cochrane,
Alberta, Eric of Mississauga, and Floyd and
Carl at home; four nephews and one niece.
He was predeceased by a brother Joseph
in 1958.
He was a -•member of St. Joseph's Roman
Catholic Church and attended elementary
school at Kingsbridge. He received his
Secondary School Graduation Diploma at
the Goderich District Collegiate Institute.
He apprenticed as a carpenter with A.
Manning and Sons, Blyth and with D. & G.
Construction, receiving his Advanced
Carpentry Certificate at the Mohawk Col-
lege of Applied Arts and Technology,
Hamilton.
He went to Calgary and Banff, Alberta in
1977 where he continued to work in the con-
struction industry. He liked to travel, work-
ing while touring for 19 months in the
Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Australia.
Returning home for a short time, he then
went back to Calgary in 1980 where he had
been self-employed. He spent the past two
winters in Rossland, British Columbia.
Wayne had many friends in many lands
and kept in close contact with his family by
letter or by phone wherever he happened to
be. He loved life and was a great sports en-
thusiast, playing hockey with the Lucknow
Pee Wee and Bantam teams, enjoying soft-
ball, sky diving, downhill skiing and he was
an experienced kayaker. He was a member
of the Calgary White Water Club and the
Bow Waters CanoeClub. --
The Courtney family received relatives,
neighbours and friends at their home.
Rosary and prayers were recited by the
Reverend Father Ed Dentinger, C.R., and
members of the Kingsbridge C.W.L. on Sun-
day, July 8.
Memorial glasses were celebrated in
Calgary and at Kingsbridge on Monday, Ju-
ly 9. At the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 19th
St., S.W., Calgary, Alberta, the Reverend
Father Joseph Toole was celebrant. The
eulogy was written and read by Gerry
O'Brien. Ralph Austin and Sarah Lynch did
the readings. At St. Joseph's Roman
Catholic Church, Kingsbridge, Father Den-
tinger, C.R. was celebrant. Readings were
done by Betty Lou Dalton and Mia Dalton.
Hymns were sung by Eugene Frayne and
John VanRooy. Organist was Mrs.
Marianne Hogan. Offering was taken up by
Wayne's brothers, Gary, Eric, Floyd and
Carl. Rosary was led by Fred Courtney.
It is the wish of the family that Wayne's
body be located for burial in St. Joseph's
Cemetery at Kingsbridge.

WILLIAM THERON BETIMES
William Theron Betties, 91, died on Sun-
day, July 22, at Huronview.
Mr. Betties was born in Goderich
Township in 1893. He married his first wife
Jennie McIlwain on April 26, 1916. She
predeceased him in 1963, He then married
Ethel McIlwain on December 8, 1968. in
Parkhill. She survives him.
In 1916, he moved to Morse, Sask. and
later returned to Goderich in 1923. In 1927,
he bought a farm in McKillop Township and
resided there until 1973, when he moved to
Rattenbury St. W., Clinton.
Mr. Betties was a member of Winthrop
United Church and adherent to Ontario
Street United Church. He was also a
member of Murphy LOL 710, Clinton.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Betties is sur-
vived by a daughter Isobel 1 Mrs. William
Meredith). of St. Cleinents and two sons.
Gordon and Robert Betties, of Salmon Arm,
B.C. He is predeceased by one son, Kenneth
Betties.
Also survived by one sister, Elisa I Mrs.
Peter Young 1, of Goderich and one brother,
Allen Betties. of Clinton.
He is also predeceased by his parents and
by one sister, Rhoda ( Mrs. William Jordan)
and one brother, Erlind Betties.
A funeral service•.l�was held Wednesday,
July 25 at the Ball and Falconer Funeral
Home. with Rev. James Bechtel presiding.
A memorial service wa held by the Murphy
1,01, 710, Clinton, on July 24, at 9 p.m. Inter-
ment at Maitland Cemetery, Goderich.
JAMES EDWARD CURWEN
James Edward Curwen died at the age of
64 in the Huronview home for the elderly on
Aug, 1.
The former Knox Presbyterian Church
member was born in 1920 in! Goderich to
James Curwen and Ruth Ann ( Wiggins),
both predeceased.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ruth
Keays of Ottawa.
A funeral and committal was held at the
Ball and Falconer Funeral Home on Aug. 4.
Reverend G. Lockhart Royal 4 the Knox
Presbyterian Church in Goderich presided.
Cremation with interment of ashes was held
in the Maitland Cemetery. Funeral direc-
tors were from the Ball and Falconer
Funeral Home.
