Sires Stake colts come to Goderich Raceway
Thursday; August 2 was MS Night at
Goderich Raceway. Local Multiple
Sclerosis representatives were on hand
selling items and to present a blanket to
the winner of the Race Against MS. This
year's winner of the Race Against MS was
Linlor Lebelle. The brown six-year-old
horse is owned by Hohnesville Valley
Farms; and trained and driven. by Verdun
Vanstone. Linlor Lebelle did not .have
much trouble pacing the mile in 2.04.2,
defeating'second and third place finishers
. Cheater Bars and Violas Woe.
The second fastest mile of the night was
clocked in the seventh race as Lionel
Kloss' four-year-old Mar El Patsy won its
second start in a row at Goderich
Raceway. Mar El Patsy was driven to vic-
tory by Robert Daer. The mile went in
2.05.2, knocking almost two seconds off
Mar, El Patsy's lifetime mark,
The winner of the tenth race was no sur-
prise as Garmor Enuff outpaced five other
horses. Garmor Enuff is owned by Tom
McLean of Goderich and is trained and
driven by W.R. McLean. It was the fourth
win in five starts at Goderich Raceway for
the six-year-old horse.
Goderich Raceway had a successful MS
night, thanks to those who supported by
buying articles, and thanks to the
horsemen who donated five percent of
their,purse cheques to the worthy cause.
Thursday, August 9 promises to be a big
night at Goderich Raceway when the On-
tario Sires Stake Colts come to town. There
will he fnnr divisions of the two -year -.old
colt pacers this Thursday evening. Many
of Ontario's top two-year-old pacers will be
here, as well as many top drivers. Dave
Wall, the well known Toronto driver is br-
inging up four stake colts - including Snip -
per who is considered by many to be the
top two-year-old colt this year.
Snipper has a lifetime mark of 1.57.3,
and has won seven of 11 starts, and has
made over $58,000 in purse money.
Wall also has Rogie Herbert who has had
nine lifetime starts, and of those • nine
starts, missed -being -either first or second
only once.
La Habra Almahursb is also driven and
trained by Dave Wall. This top two-year-
old has also made over $58,000 this year. In
its lc/lifetime starts La Habra, Ahnahurst
Raceway to host two-year-old pacers

rmbro Dixon is another top colt who
wl be racing at Goderich. Armbro Dixon
has a lifetime mark of 1.59.2 and has made
over $51,000 this year. William Fritz, who
has many top Ontario Sires Stake horses,
is bringing up four colts.
As well, the stake races feature the local
colt G G Dynasty. G G Dynasty is owned
by Bob Daer, Leroy Meriam and Paul
Dougherty of Goderich.
The track record of 2.01.2 set by both
Derbys Gent and Willvan Duke could fall
when the two-year-old colt pacers come to
Goderich Raceway this Thursday evening.

McKellar
wins men's
golf night
A total of 52 men came out for men's night
on July 30 at the Maitland Golf and -Country
Club. Bill McKellar finished in first place
with Mike Paquett and Bruce Thomasson
tying for second. Howard Barker took the
third place position.
The fewest putts of the night was won 'by
Karl Campbell and .Mike Paquette. The
loser of the night was Ken Hall. -
Ladies' night was held on July 31 with
Verna Kane winning first low gross, Janet
Gemmill won first 19w net and Shellagh
Sully won second low net. The putts winner
was Ardith Brissette.
In the second flight, low gross was won by
Rosemarie Evans and first low net was won
by Joan MacDougall. Second low net was
won by Grace Neville and the putts winner
was. Bess Smith.
Sally MacEwan won first low gross in the
third flight with Chris Hoffmeyer winning
the second low gross. Vern Frith won first
low net and Joyce Shack won second low net.
Putts was won by Polly McKellar.
Closest to pin number five on the second
shot was Sally MacEwan. Bev Jeffrey won
the longest drive on hole number seven.
The next couples two ball will be held at
the Maitland on August 10.

two -ball
a success
Everything seems to be going perfectly
for golfers as they head into the middle of
the season. Golfers at Sunset Golf Course
are turning out in large numbers forall the
special events.
The two -ball last Friday saw Gwen
Trebish and Frank Graham, Judy Odbert
and Nellie Clark, and Helen Clark and Les
Thompson emerge as winners. Murray
Taylor and Ron Harris were the two lucky
draw winners.
The next two -ball will be held on August24
with social hour starting at 5 p.m. This is not
a regular two -ball tournament as a special
fish fry is.planned.
This week's men's night winners were
Tony Bedard with low gross for the day, and
Rick Turner with low net of the day.
First flight winners were Leroy Bedour
with low gross and Tom Moore with low net.
Second flight low gross winner was Art
Dawson with George Divok winning low net
Bob Durnin won low gross for the third
flight and George Williams won low net.
Winners of low net in the first, second and
third flight were; Murray Taylor, Bill
Yongblut and Les Thompson.
Indies' night winners were; Della Bedard
and Marilyn Graham, first flight; Pat
Dockstader and Dorothy Bourdeau, second
flight; Betty Helesic, Marlene McDougall
and Darlene Crawford, third flight; and
Jane Bedard, Betty Fuller, Marion Harris,
Joan Thompson and Judy Adbert, fourth
flight.
