A meeting was called by Lion Grant Chisholm and the following officers were elected for the 1984-85 year of the newly formed Goderich Lioness Club: president - Dorothy Bourdeau; first vice-president - Gwen Trebish; second vice-president - Ruth Kelly; secretary - Joy Hicks; treasurer - June Hayter; Lioness Tailtwister and Lioness Tamer - Jennifer Black; director - Dorothy Bogie; director - Lynn Edward; and director - Yvonne Porter. All offices are for a one year term with the exception of director Yvonne Porter's term, which is for two years. This is an enthusiastic new ladies' club. A week after being formed, they had entered the Canada Day parade with a float announ- cing the "New Baby in Town" • and proclaim- ing the, Goderich Lions Club as the "Proud Papa". The adorable diapered babies on the float were Ruth Kelly, Yvonne Porter, Max- ine Murray, Gwen Trebish, Dorothy- Bourdeau and Judy Woodall. Joy Hicks and Dorothy Bogie also rode the float. The Club has also started plans for their 'Recognition Night' which will be held Oc- tober 12 at the Goderich Township Com- munity Centre, Holmesville. 4.1 s art Canada Day parade the community. Before the summer is over, the Lioness Club will have held two fund raisers. The first was a barbecue and pool party, held at the home of Dorothy Bourdeau, for the Lions Club members and their wives and the Lioness members and their husbands. The second fund raiser will be a garage sale float introduced Goderich's newest club to Saturday, August 11.' "This new club is off to a "roaring" start and bound to do a lot of good things for the town. Any women who might be interested in becoming members of the Goderich Lioness Club, should contact Gwen Trebish at 524-7845. Residents enjoy annual horseshoe pitch The annual horse shoe pitch at Nine Mile Park drew a large crowd of observors and participants on the weekend. The finalists were Barbara Pitcher of Cambridge, Jason Quill of Elmira and Harold Carter and Alex Boa, both of Goderich. The champions by NEWS eight points were Barbara Pitcher and Alex Boa. PriRT ALBERT Social News About 120 residents of Cedar Grove Beach recently had their annual pig roast. In charge of roasting the pig was Rod McKenzie of Goderich. The large group was entertained by a piper and a drummer. Ruth and Norval Anderson are flying to Calgary on Friday to attend the Jervis Reunion at Rowley, Alberta. On the way home to Toronto, they will stop in Winnipeg for a visit with their son Jerry and family. Jack and Mabel Pitblado of St. Catharines visited over the holiday with Norval and Ruth Anderson and Agnes Foster, Mabel Tom Livingstone, 529-7645 and Ruth's mother. Mrs. Foster returned to St. Catharines with the Pitblados. Dianne Foster of Sheppardton entered her horse, Flying Doctor, in three classes at the Ontario All-American Saddle Bred Show at Markham on Sunday. Flying Doctor won .a first in all three classes, bringing home three trophies. The event was; sponsored by Seagrams. Vikiting,,.at the home of Tom and Anne Livingstone over the holiday weekend were Ethel Ilowski from Kitchener and Kaye Schmidt from Waterloo. West Wawanosh Township Council Visiting at the cottage of Mery and Myra Lahn of Port Albert for the holiday weekend were Rusty and Shirley Tartiglia from Waterloo and Sue Lloyd from London. Donald Corkum from Sarhia is spending a week at the home of his aunt and uncle, Steve and Nancy-Corkum of Port Albert. Warm summer temperatures drew large crowds to the beach at Port Albert on the holiday ' weekend. On Saturday night, 200 cottagers danced in the warm sand and others relaxed in their lounge chairs as they enjoyed three hours of music provided by Whiskey Jack of Exeter. The Reverend Douglas Pitts conducted morning prayer at Christ Anglican Church in -Port Albert Sunday morning. Following the service, the 'congregation held a short business meeting in regards to replacing the front steps. Ball scores last week are as follows: July 26, Kingsbridge 13 -Port Albert 11; July 30, Lucknow 45 -Port Albert 23; and August. 1, Port Albert 14 -Nile 2. Request for installation is approved The August session of West Wawanosh Township Council was held on Wednesday evening, August 1. Cecil Cranston requested council's per- mission to install a culvert across Sideroad 18-19 at Lot 18, Concession 7, and permission was granted. Brian Brindley asked council for approval for drainage of his property at Lot 24 Con- cession 7. The Ministry of Natural Resources had given Brindley approval to clean out the creek on his property, but directed that the natural creek bed MUST be followed. To divert the water he was in- formed that written permission from the township and two other land owners was re- quired. The township did not give, its ap- proval, because an increased flow of water would be injurious to the bridge at the road. Building permits were issued to K. Good (mobile home); G. Morrison (grain bin) and W. Stalenhoef ( barn addition) . A tentative date of August 15 was set for the considetation of the engineer's report on the Beyersbergen Municipal Drain. The road superintendent reported that the pit run gravel contract was nearing comple- tion, and the crusher was scheduled to return on August 9. Road accounts in the sum of $21,016.72 and general accounts of $17,425 were ordered paid. A.J. Sherwood asked council for assurance that work would be done in the future on Concession Road 2-3.
