Elevators
in first place
The Central Huron Ladies' Softball
Lague is winding down its regular season
action and gearing up for playoffs.
The Goderich Elevators have a firm hold
on first place with a three point advantage
over second place Blyth.' Art's Landscaping,
Benmiller and the Sailorettes are in a three
way tie for third place. However, Art's and
Benmiller have each played two more
games than the Sailorettes.
There should be an interesting finish to the
regular season as only one point separates
Lucknow, Gardiners and Clinton. Clinton
has the advantage because they have played
only 11 games to Lucknow's 12 and
Gardiners' 13.

Canada Company
slides into first place.
Canada Company took over sole posses-
sion of first place in the Goderich Industrial
Fastball League last Friday with a 3-2 vic-
tory in eight innings over Sherwood Ex-
press. The win also clinched a berth for
Canada Company in the annual Labour Day
Tournament. Sherwood's loss also meant
that` French Cleaners, Kirkey's Kar Kare
and Denomme's qualified for the tourna-
ment as well.
John O'Keefe's double broughthome Mike
Donnelly with the winning run in the eighth
inning to give Canada Company their 3-2

Canada Company while Simon Langlois
threw a six -hitter as well for Sherwood.
Brian Shewfelt led Canada Company offen-
sively with two hits while Al Sygrove had
three hits for Sherwood, including a first -
inning home run.
The loss to Canada Company broke a hot
spell for Sherwood, as they had won six and
tied one game in their last seven games. The
streak included two victories over
Denomme's this past week by scores of 5-2
and 1-0.
Arnie Parker and Kevin Smith each had
two hits and two RBIs to lead Sherwood to
the 5-3 victory in the first game. Jim Bell

runs, two of which were unearned.
The Orioles bounced back to defeat
Hayter's 4-2 later in the week. Brian
Rumig's two -run double broke a 2-2 tie as
the Orioles went on to victory.
Seven different hitters contributed in
Orioles' seven -hit attack. Pitcher Doug
• Vock threw an eight -hitter in picking up the
victory. Rick McLean had three hits for
Hayter's while Phil Petrie added two.
However, Hayter's had defeated Kirkey's
Kar Kare 3-1 earlier in the week. Hayter's
pitcher Phil Petrie led the way by combin-
ing with Dave Scholl on a five -hitter and
driving in all three Hayter runs. Terry
Johnston also pitched a strong game for
Kirkey's throwing a five -hitter. Steve Ar-
bour had two hits for Kirkey's while Warren
Watt bad two hits for Hayter's.
Kirkey's also bounced back to defeat
French Cleaners by a familiar score this
week 3-1. Doc Miller and Paul Bartliff had
two hits each and Terry Johnston pitched a
seven -hitter to lead Kirkey's to the victory.
One of Bartliff's hits was a solo home run to
open the scoring in the second. inning.
George Sutton had two hits for French, who
remain in a three-way tie for first place in
the Maitland Division and second place
over-all with Kirkey's Kar Kare and
Denomme's.
Langlois then threw a two -hit shutout as
Sherwood edged Denomme's 1-0. Langlois,t
also struck out 10 batters. Denomme's pit-
cher Paul Corriveau threw a three -hitter
despite the loss, when the only run scoring
was an unearned run. Sherwood's only run
came in the fourth inning when Ron Cor-
riveau doubled home. Simon Langlois
reached base on an error.
French Cleaners, Kirkey's, Hayter's and
the Orioles all played two games last week
and each won one and lost one.
French pitcher John Bogie fired a five -
