Cynthia (Cindy) Louise Brindley,
daughter of Dorothy Brindley of R.R. 6
Goderich and Reg Brindley of Nile, received
her Early Childhood Education diploma in
Kitchener at the Conestoga College of
Applied Arts and Technology convocation
ceremonies ona 16.
Cindy is a gra' ate of Goderich District
Collegiate Institute and has accepted a
position with Mother's Helper's Day Care in
Kincardine.

80 YEARS AGO
On Tuesday evening there were many
carriages round the Square, and their
numbers made things rather unpleasant by
raising considerable dust. If, while we have
summer visitors, the last trip each day Of
the. water cart were round the Square,
citizens and visitors alike would appreciate
the favor.
Most of the contractors for the Central
School improvements 'are making good
progress. Swaffield, who has the masonry
and brick work, is nearly through with his
part; Lee will soon have the roof tinned, and
the Planing Mill Compnay is pushing their
part along.
Cpt. William.,G.undry_.has purchased the
residence, on the north-west corner of South
Street and Elgin Avenue, occupied by the
Misses Mitchell.
George L. Allan received the contract for
replacing the broken plate glass in
I'ridham's store, Horton's block, and.put the
two plates in position yesterday.
Masons are still waiting for lime and
bricks, the consquences being that many
buildings in the course of erection are rio
further advanced than they were last week.

With new beer and wine regulations

Temperance Act is in a state of susperr.sion.

veterans and their wives and families was
held at Bayfield on the weekend with ;in
'attendance of nearly 700.
25 YEARS AGO -
An early start is to be made on drilling to a
new brine wells by Sifto Salt i.irnited. Vine
Salt Plant, Goderich, on 23 acres of property
recently acquired from Mr. .John Hosvelcl
and Mr. Bert Squires. The property is
located just east of the plant and between
the CNR line and the Maitland River.
More than 8,700 names -2,000 more than
the total required -were obtained up ,to
Friday of last week for the Iluron County
petition seeking to bring about a vote on the
r repeal of the Canada Temperance Act.
So far, the Federal Government has not
given t wn officials notice to vacate the
town h 1, which is to be torn down to make
way fo a quarter -million -dollar federal
building. Alterations are being made to the A
town -owned Captial Theatre on West Street
to provide offices for the police departmen'
and for the town clerk, assessor an41 staff.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet ('ores Ship Y1'
587, one of the training ships used b}
President Jimmy Carter during his
midshipman days at the Naval Academy in
Annapolis, pulled into Goderich harbor on '
Saturday at noon, giving Goderich citizens a
chance to observe a unique sea -going vessel.
James Roy, who helped to launch and
develop the .Blyth Summer Festival, is
leaving this year after his fifth summer as
artistic' director.
There is no clear cut winner in Goderich
developer -Bob Gibbon's battle to build a
harbor front restaurant in the shadow of the
Goderich Elevators. The fight ended quietly
before round three could begin. Round three
• was an Ontario Municipal Board hearing to
determine whether the zoning of the plot of
land on which Gibbons wanted(to build be
changed from industrial to commercial.
