MVCA employs students
The Experience '84 Program at the
Maitland Valley Conservation Authority in -
Wroxeter• has provided, several students
with employment for the summer months.
The primary purpose of the Experience
Program is to provide summer work ex-
perience for the students and also to provide
some insight into the operations of a Con-
servation Authority.
Twelve of the students began working on
June 25 and they will work a total of eight
weeks on, the project. The crew working out
of the Administrative Headquarters in
Wroxeter includes Lorne Loughran, Ford-
wich; Brenda Merkley, Wroxeter; Kim
Statia, Wroxeter; Dianne Nethery,
Bluevale; Dianne Vanderrberk, Monkton;
Scott Evans, Wingham; Kevin Coupland,
Wingham; and Michelle Vader, Brussels.
These students work under the supervision
of Raymond Gowdy, the Superintendent,
along with the permanent field staff.
Four of the students are working at the
Falls Reserve Conservation Area .near Ben -
miller. They are Eamon Doorly, Mark
Gruendler and Juanita Fielder, all of
Goderich area, and Mary. Helen Clynick of
Clinton.
Peggy EvanS of Wingham was hired
under the Experience Program as the Con-
servation Services Technician for a total of
22 weeks.
TI a Program Co -Ordinator is Jeanne
McDonald of Brussels. She began May 22
and will be employed for 14 weeks.
The crews have been involved with trail
development, woodlot. management, camp-
site development, erosion control measures
and general park improvements.
In addition to the crews' day to day work,
several 'days have been seta or educa-
tional purposes. They beghn the program
with an Orientation Day to familiarize the
students with the Maitland Valley Con-
servation Authority. The second Education'
Day was an emergency first aid course and
another day will be set aside during the re-
maining weeks for students to gain some
more information.

Murray reunion held
In spite of uncertain weather, the 46th an-
nual Murray reunion was held in Harbour
Park, Goderich on Sunday July 15.
Angus Murray and his wife, Francis,
came from Sttf haven, Switland around
1851 to settle on the Goshen Line, Lot 19 Con.
10 of Stanley. Township. Their four
daughters and one son grew up in Huron
County.
Descendants of three daughters, Mrs.
Jane Saunders, Mrs. Annie Reid and Mrs.
Mary Palmer renewed old acquaintances
along with a number of friends. Fifty-six
persons signed the register and two
smorgasbord meals were enjoyed . during
the day.
The oldest lady present was 86 year old
Mrs. Belle Reid from Bayfield and the
oldest man was 86 year old -Frank Saunders
from Bobcaygeon. The youngest person was
3 year old Colleen McClinchey of Goderich.
The family coming the greatest distance
was the Saunders of Bobcaygeon: Frank,
daughters Betty and Renee and son-in-law
Sam Headon. Others travelling a distance
were from Michigan, London, Waterloo and
Wellesley.
The couple celebrating their wedding an-
niversary the day of the picnic was Diane
and Gary Beach of Stirling Hts. Mich. The
most recent grandparents were Mary and
Gordon Saunders, Royal Oak, Mich.
The family who made the greatest effort
to attend the picnic was Jean Jamieson
from Clinton Hospital, her daughter and
son-in-law Janene and Doug Wise and 3
sons: twins, Derrick and Darryl and Jason
from Clinton.
A relaxing evening was spent listening to
the music of the Huron Strings and Huron
"Ramblers.
The 1985 reunion will be held once again
on the third Sunday of July at Harbour
Park, Goderich.

TORONTO -- Jim Britnell of Goderich
will be among three members of the .en-
vironmental assessment board conducting
public hearings into the storage and
destruction of PCBs, Environment Minister .
Andy Brandt announced Thursday.
Other panelists are chairman Mary
Munro of Burlington and Robert Eisen of
Toronto.
One principal hearing will be held
somewhere in Southern Ontario this fall and
could be followed by additional hearings in
The Point Farm Hotel, built in 18'54-by-J.J.
Wright, was demolished in 1924 by the Mer-
cantile Salvage Company due to a lumber
shortage. Wright built the hotel for what he
called "tired, run-down city folic who
wanted good, clean, fresh country air."
Hotel guests enjoyed baseball, lawn bowl-
ing, tennis, shooting matches, picnicking
and swimming, .. and the tradition of
recreation and relaxation is carried on to -1,
day at Point Farms Provincial Park.

municipalities with large concentrations of
polychlorinated biphenyls, Brandt said.
The ministry will provide $50,009 to
groups. -which wish to appear at the hearing,
he added.
The ministry has been conducting infor-
mation sessions in 18 municipalities, in-
cluding London, on proposals for a mobile
PCB destruction unit. PCBs are highly toxic
liquids used as coolants in electrical
systems and transformers. About six
million litres are still in use and 1.5 million
titres are stored and awaiting destruction.

out to Point Farms. Cakes, cookies, pies - it

2 p.m. - small craft safety demonstration.
Come to the beach and the Red Crass will
give you tips on small craft safety that
everyone should know; 7:30 p.m. - batter up
- softball game for all ages at the Colborne
Ball Diamond. Bring a glove and a friend.
We need lots of spectators too. Bring your
lawn chairs and cheer your favourite team.
Sunday, July 29: 11:30 a.m. - church ser-
vice and singalong at the barn; 2 p.m. - out-
door Art at the beach volleyball net.
