A little over turd *pelts remain in the
regul .' scbedu..te of xnen's' slowpitch and
already the tattles are• heating up. One
quick glance at,•the standlkigs shows how
close the divisional splits are. A closer Welt
reveals some problems. There are four
more win's than losses.,and an odd.number of
tie games. Both are impassible! Please con --
,
on, tact Bruce Baker if you find an error in your
teams record.
Play-offs will hopefully begin the week
following the tournament, the first weeltend
in August. Teams will be split into three
divisions A, B and C, of six teams each,
(based on point standing). Each division
will play a complete round robin within their
own division - a 'total of five games per
team. This round should be over -by the
Labour Day Weekend: Based on point sten-
ding from the. round- robin, the bottoms tufo
teams in each division will be eliminated
and a best two of three series will occur
between teams ore and four and also two
and three with the higher placed team hav-
ing the home game first and then alter-
nating after that. The two winners from
each division will advance to the divisional
championship in a best two of three series.
The standings show all sorts of potential
,for ties in position. According to the slo-
pitch constitution, the games between the
teams that, are tied will be used to break the
tie. If that still results in a tie, the league
looks at run differential between the teams
that are tied. If this again fails to break it, a
coin will be tosse(ovided it does not result

The fourth night of harness racing
Thursday, July 12 at Goderich Raceway was
successful due not only to the warm
weather; but also to the fact that it :was
Blanket Night. Ten local merchants donated
blankets to the winning horse of each race -
making competition between • horses
stronger.
Fred Sadler once again proved that he is
the driver to beat at Goderich, Raceway. Of
his seven drives .of the evening, Sadler suc-
cessfully drove three horses to victory. It is
interesting' to note that each of the winning
horses are those that he owns and trains.
Sadler started the night off strong. Winn-
ing the first race with Sassy Dakali in 2:07.1.
It was Sassy Dakalis' second win in two
starts at Goderich Raceway. Fred was back
in the bike for the third race and again he
proved himself a winner as he'•guided Dwye
to a close win over Mayfair Lasalle in 2:05.4.
In the ninth and feat a race, Sadler
steered Penns Smart Kid o a victory of
three and a quarter lengths' - showing that
Sadler's horses continue to dominate this
class. Garmor Natalie also owned by Sadler
was the two-time winner in this class - with
Natalie not entergcl on July 12, the race
. seemed to be wide open for a favorite, But
despite strong competition Dela Dawn,
driven by Randy McLean and Joella's
Knight; driven by John Muir, Penns Smart
Kid was by far the best pacing the mile in
2:06.
Come to the races!

Goderich trainer Gord Kerr also had a
very successful night. In the fourth race
Highland Ascot; owned by Brian Kerr and
driven, by Ross Rattin, won its first lifetime
start in 2:10.2, narrowly defeating Gorlyn
Acres Scram Socks and Campbells Whipper
Tide. Noble Amy, also trained by Gord
Kerr, won her third start in a row at
Goderich Raceway.
The seven year old mare owned by Koop
De Groot of Goderich and driven by Ross
Battin proved just how tough she could be,
pacing the eighth race in 2:0&2. Noble Amy
Mas moved up in class for Thursday July 19
and it will be interesting to see how she fares
in a tougher class.

Hohnesville
Valley Farms paced the most impressive
mile of the night. The three-year old colt set
a new lifetime mark of 2:04 at Goderich
Raceway last Thursday. Despite facing
older and more experienced Horses in the
seventh race, Linlor ' Rodger driven by
trainer Brad Vanstone came out on, top -
with the quickest mile of the evening.
There will be 10 harness races again
Thursday July 19 at Goderich Raceway. The
feature race of the evening is the ninth. It
hosts a full field of seven horses. Sadler's
two-time winner Garmor Natalie returns to
give the other horses & chance to break her
winning streak.
