The day when
the sun disappeared
BY SHEILA RENSHAW
Before I went to sleep, I took a quick look
out the window just in time to see the last
rays of the sun disapppe,ar. Little did I know
it would be a while bore I saw its blazing
flames again.
After a quick prayer, I silently crept into
bed, where I fell into a deep sleep.
Growl, grunt, were the sounds I heard as
I slowly opened my eyes.
Wow. Fully awake now, I gazed at the
two creatures with big ears, red beady
eyes and long, green noses. Next I
surveyed theroom. There was a seat much
like the one at a hairdressers for blow
drying your hair. This one had a thick wire
attached to a machine with all sorts of
coloured lights. -
They pushed me into the chair and
clamped the head of the machine over my
head. Before I could ser m a voice told
me I was alright and not to be frightened.
Then a series of pictures came into view.
The pictures were of a land I had never
seen before. There were rainbows, crystal-
clear streams, unicorns, flowers and a
bright, beautiful sun. As I saw this, the
voice told me it was the home of these alien
creatures until one day the sun did not
shine. That's when I saw a picture of dark
land with drooping flowers, muddy
streams with algae on the sides and a sick
unicorn looking at me with sad eyes. The
pictures went and I heard a voice calling
for help.
They wanted me to help them get their
sun to shine again. Why me? What could I,
a measly child do to help? Then it came to
me. If the sun had run out, maybe it only
needed a new lightbulb. As if tht jiad read
my mind, they lifted the head ari11d let me
out. Then they told me to get ready for we
would be taking off to their sun in a few
minutes.
I boarded their little plane, found a seat
and buckled in. As we passed by the
glistening stars I wondered what I was
going to do. These creatures were counting
on me for help but I did not even have a
light to replace the old one.
Just then a bright star up ahead seemed
to wink at me. I quickly went into action. I
told the aliens to slow down as we came
closer to the_star. Then I asked for a rope.
They pulled one out of a nearby closet. I
put a loop in it then ran to the door and slid
it open. Just as we were passing the star I
threw the, rope over one end and the other
end over a nearby post. Then I waited.
We- neared the sun and I asked them to
take me around back. Just as I had
thought. The light bulb had burnt out. The
creatures helped me pull out the old
lightbulb and maneuver the new star in. It
_ fit perfectly and soon the sun was shining
brightly again.
The aliens looked pleased do with a huge
grin on my face I nestled down for a nap.
The next thing I knew, I was back home
in my own bed again. It must have been a
dream. Just then I saw a face with beady
red eyes, large ears and a green nose. I
must have imagined it. It couldn't be true.
It just couldn't. Or Could It?
