ee Wees win at home
against Exeter 15-10
Twenty-five runs were scored in the
Legion Pee;Wee-baseball game on June 25 in
Goderich. The home team came away with
the majority of runs, defeating Exeter 15-10.
Goderich went through their batting order
in the first inning, scoring six runs. Brian
Lane, James Habel, Devon Coluquhoun,
Derek Jefferson, Bob Pellow and Tim
Harrison each crossed the plate for a run.
Exeter was not as fortunate as they left a
man on first and second in the top of the first
inning. The top of the second inning Was
better for the visiting team as they scored
five runsto make the score 6-5.
The home -team was not quite as
productive in thbir half of the inning, but did
manage to bring Jefferson home after he hit
a double. Mike Duckworth and Tim
Harrison found themselves stranded at the
end of the inning.
Exeter picked up one run in the third,
narrowing Goderich's lead to one with the
score standing at 7-6. However, \ Goderich's
bats were swinging, driving in two runs.
Coluquhoun took four balls for a walk and
stole second on his way home. Jefferson hit
a single and also stole second base before he
crossed the plate to make the score 9-6.
Good defensive plays held Exeter off the
scoreboard while Goderich added five to
their side. Brad Hill was walked, stole
second and eventually made it home for one
run while Lane, Hebei and Coluquhoun also
took the four balls for a walk and made it
home. Jefferson hit a single and made it
home on a wild pitch.
With the score 14-6 in favor of the home
team, Exeter pooled their batting talents
and drove in three runs. The Exeter defence
did a fine job holding Goderich to one run
when it was their turn to take to the field.
Neither team scored in the sixth inning,
but Exeter gave it one last try in the seventh
to score one run. Goderich left the ball park
with a 15-10 victory.
Pee Wee B's put forth
good effort ir15 -12 loss
The Goderich Pee Wee B's played an
exhibition game against the Clinton Tykes
last week in Goderich. The Clinton team
won, 15-12.
Clinton started their half of the inning
with one run and held Goderich scoreless
in the bottom half of the inning. To
Goderich's disappointment, Andy
McLarty hit a fly ball to first base, Mike
Hunter struck out, Aaron Duckworth was
left on second and Jason Duckworth struck
out.
Clinton added one more run to the
scoreboard in the second inning, however,
this time they allowed Goderich to score
one run.
The run was scored by Brad Allen, who
stole second and third and eventually
made it home to tie the game.
Goderich managed to keep Clinton off
the scoreboard in the third inning, but they
too were not allowed to score, a run.
However, Clinton made up for not scoring
any runs by having four players cross the
plate in the fourth inning.
Aaron and Jason Duckworth were the
two players who scored for Goderich in the
fourth as their team tried to match the
runs Clinton scored, but fell short. Aaron
hit a single and stole second on his way
home, while Jason hit a double, stole third
and then made it home.
With the score 6-3 in Clinton'sfavour, the
Goderich defence did their best to keep
their opponents from. scoring any more
runs. However, Clinton had other plans as
they drove one run in during the fifth
inning.
When it was Goderich's turn at bat, they
countered with three runs to make the
score stand at 7-6. Mike Hunter watched
the ball carefully, taking four balls for a
walk and Aaron Duckworth hit a triple.
But it was Scott Creamer who started the
inning off with a walk and then he stole
second base. All three of these players
crossed the plate.
Clinton scored two runs in the sixth
'inning in an attempt to nullify the
Goderich runs, but Goderich added
another in their half when Brad Bell made
it home.
The seventh inning saw a total of 11 runs
scored. Six by Clinton and five by
Goderich. McLarty hit a single to get on
base and was followed by Hunter's walk.
Jason Duckworth hit a double, Mac Irwin
reached base'on and error -by Clinton's
second baseman, and Jason Clark was also
walked. Each of these players made it
home in an attempt to even the score. But
their efforts fell short as Clinton went
home with a 15-12 victory.
