HURON REAL ESTATE BOARD MULTIPLE LISTING SERVICE - to,14 • Students hope future ilil be as enjoyable as past The valedictory address by Sonya McCallum of Robertson Memorial Public School was omitted from the Grade 8 Graduation edition. ' BY SONYA MCCALLUM ' Tonight is an important event in the lives of us graduates. We are here to say farewell to a valued stage in our lives and to greet what we hope will prove to be a time as en- joyable as the one we are completing. Mr. Smith, teachers, parents, guests and fellow graduates. Graduation is a word that for a long time was a foreign word to us graduates, an event so far in the future that it was given little thought, although we (as all students do) were unconsciously striving toward it. But as grade eights, graduation became a v„ry familiar word, a goal all laboured f s r .ut still an event it seemed we would never a reach. Finally, after months` of countless pro- jects, dozens of tests and naturally, 'piles of homework, we've. arrived. Of course we never could„have tolerated it if it hadn't been for those occasional pleasures'lilte our winter carnival; special performances and assemblies, track-and-field and, of course, our trip to Canada's Wonderland, but most ofall, weekends. No doubt we never could • •, have done it .without, the support of some im- portant people. 0 Our parents have always tried to be there for us when we needed them, whether it be giving advice or helping with homework. They've faithfully provided encouragement, discipline and guidance and will continue to do so. For that we thank them. We've had many teachers over the years who have helped us arrive at this moment. You've gained our respect and we sinderely say thanks. We may' not realize until we reach high school how grateful we are to Mr. Moore, Mr. Leggatt and Mr. Bogie for preparing us. We know it must have been trying at times. We midst also be thankful for our friends and classimates with whom we have shared many experiences, good ° and bad. We've whispered in class and latighed in the halls. You've made the time worthwhile and I wish you all the best of luck in the future. Now we must say farewell to Robertson. I hope I speak for all the graduates when I say we enjoyed our years there and that we'll never forget them because of all our memories we have. Remember the first time we had rotary. Remember the agoniz- ing hours some of us 'spent working on speeches and science projects. Who could forget some of the humorous habits and per- sonality traits of some of our teachers. What about our earlier years, whether spent at Robertson or Victoria, where many of us at- tended another chool? Do you remember your first day oflundergarten and first time you had homework? Those are just a few of our cherished Memories. Now we must look -away from the past and toward the future. To Septimber when we'll be starting high school. Some may be dreading that day while others look forward to it but I think we are allenthusiasticabout this new challenge. We'll be meeting new people and encountering new experiences. This is'what my closing poem refers to, We cannot always know - where roads will lead us or know what we will find at journeys end But if along our Way , we give our best to every day we'll discover some new joy around each bend.
