Shell defeats Meneset in slo-pitch
Ron's Shell defeated Meneset 10-3 on June
19 in ladies' slo-pitch action and the Go-For-
Ettes defeated All Ages 7-0 the following
day.
RON'S SHELL 10 - MENESET 3
Donna Leppington started Ron's Shell off
on the right foot in the first inning, scoring
the first run of the game. However, Meneset
took the lead with runs scored by Linda
Brown and Susan Denomme.
Janet Dekker tied the game when she
crossed the plate for Ron's Shell and Dale
Robertson's run gave them a 3-2 lead.
Meneset was unable to get a runner in
during their half of the inning, but allowed
one more run in the third.
Increasing Ron's Shell's lead was Lynn
Rumig as she crossed home plate. In the
fourth inning, Marilyn McCuspey ran home
to make the score 5-2.
Meneset's defence went to work in the
fifth inning as they held Ron's Shell
scoreless. The offence replied with one run
by Janet Hullah, narrowing their opponent's
lead to two.
Ron's Shell did their damage in the sixth
and seventh inning, scoring a total of five
runs and not allowing any. It was Corrine
Walsh, Diana Glousher and Marilyn
McCuspey scoring three runs in the sixth for
an 8-3 lead. Dale Robertson and Sharon
Sowerby added the final two runs in the
seventh as they took the game 10-3. '
GO-FOR-ETTES 7 - ALL AGES 0.
All Ages were shutout 7-0 by the Go-For-
Ettes last Wednesday when the two teams
faced each other at St. Mary's diamond.
The first inning was scoreless but the Go-
For-Ettes' Pat Francess put them in the
lead. Sue Young almost made the score 2-0,
but her teammates left her at third base.
In the fourth inning, All Ages,' Sue
. McAdam made it to second base but she too
- was left stranded. It was the fifth inning
that hurt the All Ages as they allowed five
runs. Pat Allen, Barb O'Brien, Sue Young,
Janette Pearson and Barb Ottowell crossed
the plate to give their team a 6-0 lead.
Connie McAuley almost made it 7-0 when
she rounded third, but that was as far as she
got.
Cathy Britnell tried to bring the All Ages
to life when she hit a double, but her team
was not swinging.
In the sixth inning, the.,Go-For-Ettes were
held scoreless. The All Ages left Ruth
German, Debbie Hunbing and Judy Ceisler
on base.
In the seventh Pat Costello scored the
final run of the game, giving her team a 7-0
victory.
OTHER GAMES
In other ladies' slo-pitch action, the Go-
For-Ettes mercied Bedford 20-4 and Nile slid
"phst Mac's 8-7. Unfortunately, write-ups
could not be done on these games due to
incompletelgame sheets.
Goderich Pee Wees allow seven runs in final inning
The Goderich Legion Pee- Wees allowed
seven runs in the final inning to lose 9-6 to St.
Marys on June 18. This loss makes the Pee
Wees' record stand at two wins and two
losses.
The Goderich players held St. Marys
scoreless until the sixth inning while they
added to their total through out the game.
Derek Jefferson was the first batter up for
Goderich, but the St. Marys pitcher threw
him out. Mike Duckworth followed with a
single and eventually made it home on a
wild pitch.
Bob Pellow was the third man up, and he
' watched the ball carefully, taking four balls
for a walk. Pellow was later thrown out at
third base.
Mac Irwin and Scott Allen were the final
outs as Goderich took a 1-0 lead in the second
inning.
In the third inning, Tim Harrison reached
first base due to an error by St. Marys' first
baseman. Then two passed balls allowed
him to reach third base and eventually score
a run.
Devon Colquhoun hit a single, stole second
base and crossed the plate after a wild pitch,
ending Goderich's scoring in the third
inning.
With Goderich up 3-0, James Babel
walked, reached second and third on passed
balls and crossed home to score the only run
of the inning. Mike Rompf was stranded on
third and Jason Duckworth was left on
second.
Colquhoun hit a single to start off the fifth
inning, stole second base and ran home to
seore a rim. Jefferson was walked and, after
an error by the St. Marys pitcher, scored the
second run of the inning.
St. Marys came to life in the sixth inning
after two players were walked by Goderich
pitcher Jefferson. Both of the base runners
made it home for a 6-2 score.
Goderich was unable to score a runner in
the sixth as Brad Hill was left on second
'base.
The Goderich defence was the victim of
the St. Marys' bats in the seventh, as they
scored seven runs to take the game 9-6.

Activities
galore!
Play Day for Robertson _Memorial School's
primary students turned out to be a huge
success last Wednesday. The weatherman
was in an agreeable mood as the children
took part in plenty of fun filled games.
Among the many activities was the bean
bag toss, which was not quite as easy as
the youngster above thought. Another
game some of the younger students found
challenging was passing the ball over their
head and then through their legs (top
right). But the most exciting game of all
was the wheelbarrow race which took
muscle from the bottom person, and in
some cases, patience from the person
acting as the pusher. (photos by Anne

Goderich Minor Ball Hockey League
leading team, the Capitals, defeated the
Leafs 6-1 last week at the Goderich Arena.
The second game of the night saw the(
Generals take the Oak Leafs 12-0.
The Capitals have a hold on first place
with 10 points while the Generals are in
second with seven. In third are the Leafs
with five points and the Oak Leafs are
fourth with two points.

Fourteen -year-old Christine Phillips won
her age division at the Seventh Annual Port
Huron Eight Mile Road Race last Sunday in
Sarnia.
Phillips, who ran the race in 57.31
minutes, was also the sixth overall female
finisher among 1,000 winners.

The Goderich Midget hardball team
started their season off on a losing streak,
but are now on a winning streak. They lost
their first two games against Clinton, but
since June 3, have won five out of five
games. Their game against Exeter on June
24 was forfeited because of a lack of players.
The local team's last game was a hard
fought battle against Dashwood, with
Goderich finishing on the winning side of a 6-
3 score.
The Midgets' next home game will be
against Seaforth on July 1 at 2:30 p.m.
Hayter's breaks slump
Doug Vock of the Orioles became the first
pitcher to throw a no-hitter this year when
he shut down Denomme's 2-0 in Goderich In-
dustrial Fastball action last week. Vock
struck out eight batters and walked three in
picking up the no-hitter. Offensively, run -
scoring doubles from Kevin Adams and
Fred Pellow in the third inning brought in
the two runs.
In other games, French Cleaners lost'
their second straight after seven con-
secutive victories, losing 3-2 to Canada Com-
pany in nine innings. Brian Shewfelt's dou-
ble in the bottom of the ninth brought home
the winning run. Shewfelt and Bill Tigert
each had three hits for Canada Company.
Ron Willis pitched a five -hitter to pick up the
victory.
Denomme's defeated Hotel Bedford 5-1.
Steve Berry had a home run and two hits to
lead Denomme's to the victory. Dave Mac-
Donald and Dave Gallow each had two hits
for Hotel Bedford. John Verwey pitched a
seven -hitter in pickirtg_up the victory.
.Hayter's broke outdf their Slump with an
8-4 victory over 15erwood Express. Jim
Ginn led offensively with three hits while
Dave McDonald, Andy Moore- and Myles
Murdock each had two hits. Phil Petrie and
Dave ,Scholl combined on a six hitter with
all runs being unearned to pick up the vic-
tory for Hayters.
After winning one game in extra innings
this week, Canada Company then lost one in
extra innings as Kirkey's defeated them 7-6
in eight innings. Paul Bartliff's bases -
loaded single in the bottom of the eighth
gave Kirkey's the victory. Bartliff, Dan
Maillet, Frank Hagan, Paul Kelly, Terry
Johnston, and Bob Orr each had two hits for
Kirkey's as part of their 15 -hit attack. Greg
Beacom had three hits for Canada Company
while John O'Keefe and Brian Shewfelt had
two each.
Finally, Hotel Bedford defeated Sherwood
Express 3-2. Jeff Cox fired a strong six -
hitter for Bedford in picking up the victory
while Simon Langlois threw a four -hitter in
a losing cause. Bruce Shoff led all hitters
with a pair of singles. Glen Falkiner drove
in two runs for Bedford.

Pee Wee B's lose 11-8
The Goderich Pee Wee B's played an
exhibition game against the Clinton Tykes
last Wednesday in Goderich. The visiting
team went home with an 11-8 victory.
Clinton scored one run in their half of the
first inning and held Goderich scoreless
until the third inning. After scoring four
runs themselves, they allowed five runs,
tying the game at 5-5.
Jason Hayter took four ballsfor a walk
and reached home on an error by the Clinton C
catcher. Andy McLarty scored the next run
for Goderich and Mike Hunter was walked.

home plate .after Clinton's left fielder
dropped the ball. Aaron Duckworth and
Brad Allen scored the other two runs.
Clinton's offence continued to pressure
Goderich's fielders as they added three runs
in the fourth. However, Goderich countered
with three runs of their own to maintain an
8-8 tie.
McLarty, Hunter and Aaron Duckworth
crossed the plate for Goderich.
Clinton managed three more runs before
the game was over, but Goderich was held to
their eight runs. Clinton won the exhibition
game 11-8.
Williamson scores with -e-
one second remaining
Last Thursday Sherwood Express scored
a goal in the last second of the game to
defeat the previously undefeated United
team, 4-3. On June 19 they added another
win to their standings as Express came
from behind to defeat the Rink Rats 4-1.
Bill Peters put the Rink Rats on the
scoreboard with an unassisted goal two
minutes into the game. Daryl Madge
countered for Express two minutes later,
tying the score at one all. Pete Willems and
Brent Williamson assisted.
United regained their lead less than a
minute later when Dave Moore took a pass
from Mark Frayne. Also assisting on the
play was Ian Chisholm.
The second period was scoreless unitl the
last five minutes when Express again fought
back to even the score. Trevor Erb was the
marksman with Williamson and Denis Kerr
assisting. Chisholm put United back in the
lead 32 seconds later with Frayne and Steve
Arbour assisting.
Express then went to work tying the score
with a goal by Brent Williamson. The assist
went to Mark Crawford. Then, with only one
second left in the game and the score tied at
3-3, Williamson took a pass from Gary
Abbott and put the ball in the net, handing
United their first loss of the season. Also
earning an assist oil the winning goal was
Erb.
EXPRESS 4 - RINK RATS 1
The Rink Rats took an early lead in their
game against Express on Tuesday, but they
couldn't hang on, losing the game 4-1.
Rob MacDonald opened the scoring for the
Rink Rats with an unassisted goal after only
54 seconds of play. However, the remainder
of the game belonged to Express.
Trevor Erb scored the tying goal midway
through the first period with John Thompson
and Daryl Madge assisting. The go ahead
goal was scored by Bill Gallow with Dave
Gallow earning the assist.
Express continued to increase their lead
in the second period when Madge put the
ball in the net after taking a pass from Mark
Crawford. Erb also earned an assist. The
final goal of the game was scored by Dave
Gallow, giving Express a 4-1 victory. Denis
Kerr and Terry Bean assisted on the final
goal.
Bantams win opener 6-0
Last Tuesday Syd Hall's Goderich Ban-
tams opened their soccer season with a
sparkling 6-0 win at Exeter. Todd Graham
scored three goals, Darren Doak two and
Chris Sideris one in a game dominated by
the Goderich team.
Al Fisher's Atoms routed Seaforth 12-0 in
Goderich last Tuesday. Trisha Rumig and
Chad Papple scored three times each, Don-
nie Rivers and Jamie Redmond two each,
and Todd Papple and Bryan Pickell both ad-
ded singles. The Atoms travel to Kincardine
this Thursday.
In the Atom -Mosquito House League last
Monday. Blizzard romped over Buzzards 4-
0. Chris Johnston scored three times and
Chad Papple once. In the second game,
Tigers drew with Breakers 4-4. Paul
Hamilton scored three goals and Chris
Herlufsen one for Tigers. Bob Lumley. with
two goals, and Chris Burbine and Andrew
McLarty, with one each, scored for
Breakers.
Goderich Squirts defeated Seaforth 5-0
last Monday in Goderich. Jeff Klages scored
twice, and Ken McLarty, Jason Meriam,
and Derek Gilchrist all netted singles.
In Squirt House League action last
Wednesday, the Giants beat the Bombers 3-
2. Jeff Brown, Taylor Cicchini and Jeff
Klages scored for Giants. Chris Lyndon and
Mike McBride replied with singles for
Bombers. Ifi the second game, the Raiders
beat the Vikings 3-1. Dave Lumley scored all
three goals for the Raiders, and Ken McLar-
ty replied with a single goal for Vikings.
Dan McCallum's Mosquitoes play Kincar-
dine this Thursday in Goderich for a
meeting which promises to be a feast for
those who love to watch soccer. Kick-off
time is 7 p.m.
great weather for golfing
The weather was perfect for golfing on
June 19 as 58 ladies participated in ladies'
night at the Maitland Golf and Country Club.
Finishing in first place were Marie Huff and
Shirley Shelton for the first flight.
Second flight winners were Ardith
Brissette and Jody Harrison while the third
flight was won by Janet Gemmill and Lilian
Kelly. Fourth flight winners were Jean Bell
and Ruth Bushell.
The men had 49 players out to men's night
on June 11. Ross Patterson was the first
winner, Jack Hinton second and Jack
Hoffmeyer third.
The player closest to the pin was Don
Stewart. Gord harrison was the winner of
the Victoria Grey trophy for worst net score.
Iast Friday the Maitland held a couples
two ball with Ardith Brissette and Bill
McKellar placing first. Maryyn Cornish and
Ed Brissette were second and Edna Looker
and Murray McGee third.
On Saturday Verna Kane wore the
Maitland Trophy with Maxinne Martin as
the runner up.
On June 9, two couples from Maitland
played in the Listowel couples tournament.
John and Verna Kane brought home a prize
while Art and Gerry Mountford enjoyed the
tournament.
