A graduation dinner was held recently at the Candlelight Restaurant for the students of the
Queen Elizabeth School. Receiving diplomas were Linck Reid and William Mitchell. Jim
Coulter, retired superintendent with the Huron County Board of Education, made the
presentation. At left are Bonnie Graham, retired principal of the school and Audrey Barlow,
current principal. Linda also received a bouquet of flowers. She recently competed in the
Ontario Special Olympics Swimming Championships in Barrie and won a gold in the 25
metre breast stroke, a silver in the 50 metre back stroke and a bronze in both the 50 metre
free style and 25 metre back stroke. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan)
Victoria Public School held a special Bicentennial assembly on June 22. Each classroom
prepared a short presentation pertaining to the province's rich heritage and history. Here,

Celebrate Bicentennial
Classes at Victoria Public School have
celebrated Ontario's Bicentennial this year
in many special ways.
In May, a concert was presented saluting
Ontario and its honourable past.
The school's Bicentennial Week was held
from June 19 to 25. During the week, some
classes visited the museum, invited parents
to speak about their heritage and examined
students' cultural backgrounds. Most
students found that there is a varied and
rich cultural heritage in this small area of
Ontario.
Each classroom prepared a -very short
presentation honouring the province for an
assembly on June 22. Special music was pro-
vided by the school choir and the pupils who
took part in the Walkerton Music Festival.
Bicentennial tributes were presented by
each classroom through songs, dances, art
work, chants and readings.
The highlight of the day was releasing
helium -filled balloons carrying the
message, "Hurray! Ontario is 200! May On-
tario continue to grow and be a great place
to live." Waves of balloons soared north-
westward over the town. Pupils now hope
that some far distant communities will
learn of this venture by reading of Victoria
School's pride for Ontario as expressed on
the balloon tags.
Everyone developed a greater sense of
pride in our province and a broader
knowledge of its heritage.

Marg Allison
Volunteer
honored
At a luncheon held at the Candlelight
Restaurant on June 22, the senior students
and their teacher from the Queen Elizabeth
School recognized 22 years of volunteer ser-
vice given by Marg Allison, Huron Road,
Goderich.
Mrs. Allison has assisted the. senior
students from Queen Elizabeth every
Thursday afternoon at Little Bowl by in-
structing them in proper bowling techniques
and helping them to keep.score. She has also
accompanied them out of town when they
have been competing in the Regional tour-
naments.
Mrs. Allison was presented with a gift by
the school's principal, Audrey Barlow, who
thanked her for being such a special friend
to the students for such a long period of
time.
In her reply, Mrs. Allison stated that "she
has learned so much herself from the
students and received a great deal of
pleasure from her contacts with them".
Mrs. Allison also went on to say that she
would still be available when needed and did •
not intend to retire completely as a
volunteer. She said she would still maintain
a contact with Queen Elizabeth School.

The Physical Education 900 classes of
Seaforth District High School have been
assisting the students of the Queen
Elizabeth School with their swimming
lessons every Friday afternoon for the past
six weeks at Vanastra Community Centre.
With the swimming sessions ending in
June, the physical education classes, with
the co-operation of their teacher, Terry
Cooper, decided they would like to entertain
their "swirruning buddies" at a barbecue to
be held at the Seaforth High School. As a
result, a great quantity of hot dogs were
cooked and consumed along with desserts
that were contributed by several parents of
the students. Games were organized and
held in the afternoon with candy awards
given to every student who participated.
The Golden Circle School students and
staff from Wingham were also invited to the
barbecue and play day, and at the close of
the activities, Bevan .indsay, Principal of
Golden Circle Schoo and Audrey Barlow,
Principal, Queen E izabeth School were
each presented with collage of pictures,
