at festival this weekend
The fifth annual Music Festival and
Friends, sponsored by the Goderich and
District Optimist Club, will again be a
highlight of the Canada Day weekend this
year.
The music festival is extended to four
days this year, with music playing Thursday
through Sunday; altogether over 35 hours of
entertainment.
The music will again range from Blues
and Jazz to Bluegrass, Folk, Country and
Fifties Rock 'n Roll. Groups that will be
returning include the local band Sharp's
Creek, Pat Gabbert, Rick McGhie, T.W. and
the Allstars, and Bruce County Grass.
New groups appearing this year are Leon
Morris, Boomerang, and Whiskey Jack.
Whiskey Jack, regulars on the Tommy
Hunter Show for the past two seasons, will
be playing the closing setnn Sunday night.
The band has a songlist of.over 100 tunes,
encompassing various styles of country
music, including bluegrass, swing, blues,
and rockabilly.
Boomerang is a London area band, with
three guitarists, drums, and lead vocal by
Teresa Burns. They call their music "an
obscure blend". of rhythm and blues and
rock 'n roll. Boomerang will also be playing
on Sunday, starting off the day at 1:00.

Bruce County comes back to the festival
this year with another award under its belt.
The band's latest album, Serve It Hot, won
the Canadian Bluegrass Awards album of
the year for 1983. Bruce County will be
playing during the day on Saturday.
B.W. Pawley, who plays the closing sets
on Thursday and Friday has also appeared
on television, and has worked often with
Ronnie Hawkins. Hawkins is the one who
gave Brian Pawley his nickname as the
"Ontario Redneck".
The two local acts, Pat Gabbert and
Sharp's Creek, are both playing on
Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Gabbert is
originally from West Virginia; this will be
the third year he has played at the Goderich
festival.
Sharp's Creek, with Bryan Ainslie on
mandolin and vocals, Brian Petrie on
guitar, Brian Melick on banjo and vocals
and Rick Milburn on ,upright bass and
vocals, plays mostly Bluegrass music. Its
name comes from the creek that runs
through "downtown Benmiller."
The two local groups will be opening the
festival on Thursday. The gates will open
Thursday and Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at
noon and Sunday at 1 p.m. The music .plays
until 1 a.m. every night except for Sunday,
when the festival closes at 10 p.m.

Historic display will
feature nostalgic articles.
Something exciting is happening during
the Annual Festival of the Arts in Goderich
on July 19, 20 and 21 at the Livery, and you
can be a part of it!
As part of the 'Nostalgia' Livery Summer
Project, the Experience '84 staff are
creating a historical display of Huron Coun-
ty. Anyone who has pictures, stories.
legends, newspaper articles, mementos,
and old documents who would be willing to
lend them towards this Bicentennial project
is asked to contact the Livery at 35 South St.,
Gods ch, or phone 524-6262 between 9 and 5
on ekdays.
e utmost care will be taken to ensure
that articles will be protected during the
display and returned safely.
Your contribution to the Bicentennial
display will give both young and old a visual
summary of the role that Huron, County has
played in Ontario's 200 year history.
GLT holds annual dinner -dance
Goderich Little Theatre held its annual
dinner -dance on Saturday, June 16 at The
Livery. I>uring dinner, the No -Notes Jug
Band provided entertainment. Jim Keller
was the disc jockey for the dance which
followed.
Retiring GI,T president Ruth Leonard and
her executive expressed thanks to all
members for their support during the past
year and also thanked the directors, casts
and crews for each production.
"We hope to see you all back next season
with the same support for the new
executive." said Mrs. Leonard.
