BUNDY Sailing weather was at last near -perfect for the weekend activities, and some 10 keel boats and two Lasers started the Summer Sefies No. 2 on Sunday. With winds steady from the South, and blowing ov'6r 20 knots at the start, some craft reefed mains, or used a smaller jib. However, the winds soon steadied out around 15 knots and provided perfect sailing for the entire course, with full sail and spinnakers for the runs. In the PHRF class only Bridge scores five seconds separated the first two boats after the time corrections were done, with Bill Wark, skippering the Soling `TIKI" corning first and George Robertson in his new Abbott ''The Entertainer" coming second. Dick Taylor was only four minutes behind for third. The MORC class had Paul Parsons skippering Dick Robartos' "Cherries Aweigh.'' to a first place finish over Steve Youngblut in "Hawke". Ken Bauer edged out Ken Dawson by a mere four seconds to take third place.- the lace.the dinghy class, Mark Taylor fought it out with Anita Shrier to place first, This Wednesday evening . the Summer Series No. 1 which was cancelled the- previous week due to the fog, will be run. Starting time 6:50 p.m. Due to- the . Laser Arnold and Edith Schau.s combined for a point total of 1091/2 to take top spot in the North- South—section of play at the June 24 meeting of the. Goderich Bridge Club. • Rick Somers and Gord Rutledge were second with 17 points and Evelyn Galbraith and Dawna Sproule, third, with 89. Betty and Ray Fisher' were first in the East- West division with 1121/2 points, with Louise Hetherington and Jean Papernick second with 1071/2 .points. Lee Ryan and Joanne Duckworth were third with 1041/2•: On Tuesday, July 8 the club- will play a charity ,.,game with-t.he- proceeds _ going to the Diabetic Association of Ontario. Raceway opens June29 CLINTON: The Clinton Kinsmen Raceway will be starting its 17th season on June 29, and will he racing every Sunday afternoon until Sep- tember 28, with post time at 1:30 each day. Included. in the regular 10 races each day will be a number of features at the track, which bills itself as the Family Track because of the playground,• picnic grounds and hrarid new Olympic -sized pool nearby. Four Ontario Sired Stake Races will he staged for purses totalling nearly $40,000 including the two-year- old colt pace on July 27, and the three-year-old filly trot on Septernher 7. Other highlights of the meet include a driver's competition on July 13, a leg of the Ontario Har- ness Horseman's Association Stake on August 3, the Medic Elliott Memorial Trot on August 31, and the final leg of the Clinton- Goderich pacing series on September 14. Also new this year at Clinton is racing isecretary Dan Donnelly, a 19 -year-old Goderich native who has had a life- long love affair with harness horses. Regatta this weekend, there will not be any club 'lacing on Sunday, but you are invited to come out and watch. We expect over 60 Lasers from all over Southern Ontario for this competition. Teams trying best Goderich teams con- tinue to fare poorly in the London District Soccer League. On Saturday the Under 19's came up against the very strong London City Youth. The City team dominated play and won 3-0. The B team also travelled to ."London to meet undefeated Bar- tolomeo. The home team led 3-0 at half time and added another soon after the ' second half began.. Goderich goalie, Greg Smith had no chance on any of the goals and was forced to make many difficult saves. Chris was robbed of a goal of his own when the Bartolomeo goalie tipped the well taken free kick over the cross bar. St. Columban defeated the A team 3-1. Goderich continues to have. problems scoring, as their lone goal came on a. penalty shot by Dave Graf . One of St. Columban's goals was also the result , of a penalty shot. No games are scheduled for the holiday weekend. All three teams play at home Saturday July .5 Starting with the under 19's at 4:00, B team at 6:00 and the A's at 8:00. The Intermediates were eliminated- in two straight games in a tournament in Chepstow last weekend but they provided some stiff op- position. They dropped their first game to St. Clements 3-2 in 16 innings and then lost to Kitchener 9-0 in the consolation round. In their opening game the Intermediates fell behind 2-0 after the .first inning of play but rallied with two runs in the sixth to tie the game. -Mark-F-ra- neled off the - inning with a single and scored on Glen Falconer's two -out ao esswe. The game turned into a marathon pitching duel from that point as Goderich was held to a single hit over the next 10 innings while ' St. Clements managed only four hits. They scored the w inning run in the bottom of the 16h on a single, an. error , and a fielder's choice. Goderich •- vas eliminated from the tourney with a 4-0 loss in the second game. Goderich had only three hits in the game while losing pitcher, Jim Martin, allowed four runs on five hits. - In WOAA league play the Intermediates earned a- split -lsoing 1 -0 --to Clif- ford last Wednesday and defeating Lucknow 4-0 here Saturday. Pee Wees win big The Goderich Legion Pee Wee baseball team won both their games this week, beating Clinton 10-6 on June, 18 and creaming Crediton June 23 by a score of 22-6. In. the game against Clinton, Matt Buchanan, David Almasi, and Joey Fitzpatrick were the big batters, each hitting four for four. Almasi also pitched the game. The pee wees had a day of batting practice against Crediton on Monday, scoring 22 runs on their opposition. Several hitters had good games and pitching duties were shared by Joey Fitzpatrick and W. It was all Clifford needed as Goderich managed but one hit off Reg Willis, a fourth in- ning single by Dave Patterson: PeIloW was the only other Goderich base runner, reaching first on an error in the eighth, but he was doubled up. Goderich rebounded _ with a 9-0 win over Lucknow Saturday scoring single runs in the first and secon4- innings and two in the fifth.
