Everett Sparlinbg, chairman, welcomed Harold Knisley, a new ,znember of the com- mittee who Is filling the vacancy caused by T. R. Berryman's resignation. Ken Hunter reported that an application to hire three studentsthrough the student employment assistance program has been_, approved by the Ministry of Employment and Immigration of Canada. In order to receive this assistance, work on the renovations to MacKay Centre must commence on June 16 and continue for 13 weeks after that date. s Raye Armstrong, president of the Goderich Kinsmen Club and treasurer John Erb, present Jim Moore, the director of recreation, with a cheque for 12,000 for the Goderich and District Memorial Community Centre. The chair- man had spoken to Murray Cardiff, local M.P., who had agreed to try to contact the Minister in regard to the grant. Arrangements were made to send a delegation to Ottawa if necessary. However, only one carpenter will be hired at this time, and expenses witl_ be. limited -to t -he-- amount of money available for capital expenses_ at this time. Dave Haninan,-chairman of the Constitution Committee, was absent because of illness. The proposed constitution was read by the secretary,. Janet Kalbfleisch and was approved by the mem- bers as read. This con- stitution must still be approved by the Goderich Town Council. If this approval is given, the committee will probably take steps to have the Centre become in- eorporated. . Following the business meeting, member's en- joyed vocaf and in- strumental sacred music p.la..y,ed .... . b........ the, "Chapelites" in their own lively and musical style. Members of the group who were present were Mrs. Doran Rolston, leader and guitarist; accordionist Mrs.' Lynda Curl pianist Eric Campbell; Mrs. Shirley who played the saxophone; and Don McMillan onthe trom- bone. Vocal trios and duets were sung by Mrs. Rolston, Mrs. Curl, and Mr. and Mrs. McMillan. Members' of the Centre are ,very grateful to this group for providing this most pleasant interlude of music. Mrs. Olive Kennedy entertained the members with an amusing account of recent local hap- penings posing as MacKay Centre's roving reporter for 1980. All members then par- ticipated in a lively game with Less' Evans' team being the winners. Bea Sparling and Olive Kennedy were in charge of the program and lunch was prepared by Messrs.
