Many of you will:
remember Robert and
Joyce Scott; former
Goderich -.residents who
I moved to, Milton two
years ago.' And, if you
don't remember them
personally, you may at
least recall reading an
article in this newspaper
some years ago about
their remarkable
daughter, Deborah.
Deborah is a bright,
determined and energetic
10 -year-old. But, unlike
other 10 -year-olds, she
has cerebral palsy, a
condition of imperfect
controlof movement and
spastic ity, caused by
damage to part of her
brain at birth. Although
she is mentally alert and
capable of learning and
reasoning, she cannot
speak and lack of motor
co-ordination makes it
impossible , for her to
communicate by finger
language or conventional
handwriting.
When Mr. and Mrs.
Scott first decided to
immigrate to Canada
from their native Ireland
in 1971 with their two
daughters, Alison, 7 and
Deborah, 3, they faced a
troubled year trying to
gain Canadian entry for
their youngest child.
With the help of
Pickering -area Liberal
Norman Cafik, little
Deborah was finally
granted a "permit -of
entry" as opposed to the
regular "landed im-
migrant" status.
The family then settled
in Goderich and it was
during their five-year
;stay here that hundreds
of town citizens came
forward_ to volunteer
their time to assist with a
special at-home exercise
program for Deborah.
In 1978, the family
moved to .Milton and
Deborah began attending
classes at Robert
Baldwin School and the
Credit Valley Treatment
Centre on , a part-time
basis.

Hebrew is required which
requires years.. of study
usually leading to some
letters after one's name.
How did the Watchtower
Society produce its
translation of the Bible?
It would seem 'from their
translation committee
which is now an 'open '
secret, that they either
had messages from
'another world' or must
have. chosen what they
liked from other tran-
slations and put it
together with `" their
limited knowledge of
Hebrew and Greek. I
urge Jehovah's Witnesses
to look further into this.

Vampires
Dear Editor:
def to Mr Rarney's_
letter of May 28.
"Abstain from blood
and from things
strangled." It is evident
from the contents that
one is not to eat blood dr
animals that have been
strangled. I believe that
people in Canada and the
U.S. are not vampires.
Maybe Mr. Barney has
been watching too many
Dracula movies.
The circulatory system
and the digestive system
are two separate and
distinct functions of the
body. To explain how the
necessary food values are
transferred to the
bloostream is quite in-
tricate.
"Thou shalt not kill",
which is the sixth com-
mandment, is one that
the medical profession
tries to uphold at all
costs. If blood plasma is
available, it isgiven to
anyone in need. Children
being deprived of the
right to live is
premeditated murder. An
adult can make his own
decision whether or not to
be a suicide statistic.
Barney's philosophy
seems to be to try to
molest the beavers but
receive the sting of hor-
nets with bliss.
Sincerely
N. J. Minaker
