A date for these - negotiations has has not yet been set. At a police commission meeting last Thursday evening, Chief Pat King's activity report for the month of April was ap- proved. Chairman, Judge F.G. Carter, said that _lately he had noticed that drivers in Goderich have become notorious for not stopping at STOP signs, especially the STOP signs leading onto The Square. He asked Chief King to have his officers pay more attention to this. Chief King said many people also have a bad habit of stopping well hack from the STOP sign where they can't see other traffic and then shooting out in front of it. He said people should stop where they can get a clear vision. The April accounts totalling $21,446.03 were vaso approved by the commission and it was agreed to call tenders for police uniforms. v Mayor Harry Worsell asked Chief King how the foot patrol of The Square was working out. A letter from a Port Albert resident expressing thanks to the commission for their recent decision to have police do foot patrol on The Square was rioted ..and filed. The resident pointed out that it was a good idea from a tourist point of view as tourists would be able to wet directions from `officers on th'e beat". A newspaper clipping about Attorney General Roy McMurtry advocating more foot'patrol was also noted. A letter from George I.onsbary, President of the Goderich 'Police Association, regarding the grievance on the. drycleaning of uniform shirts was tabled by the commission until the next meeting. It was reported chat since tete com- mission had laid down the rule that the cost for the irycleanifig of uniform shirts would come out of the officers' pay, two officers had had their •shirts drycleaned but had .paid for it. Judge. Carter reviewed the previous agreements with the police association regarding the cleaning of uniforms. He --noted -that in 1973 the agreement stated that the police commission would assume the cost of drycleaning two uniforms for each officer per month. Agreements for 1974 through to 1979 stated that the com- mission would assume the cost of all necessary 4..leaning and repairs to uniforms and equipment. Correspondence from , the Goderich P.U.C. regarding the en- ' forcement of the watering by-law by police' was tabled for further information. The com- mission hopes to come up with _some set fines for breaking the watering by- law. Chief King informed the commission that two of their by-laws per- taining to taxi cabs would now come under the new. Provincial Offences Act if charges were laid for infractions. He noted that '-While the by-law itself would remain the same, a short wording and set fine would have to be put on tickets to be issued for infractions. He said the, set fines are not set by the Police4 Commission but they can suggest fines to the Chief Provincial Judge (Criminal Division). s JUNE 3 TO JUNE 10 WINGHA HIGHWAYS 4 & 86 OF EXTRA!
