Brian is able to throw the heavy shot about 13 metres but was disqualified_
from the competition for stepping out of the throwing circle. The winner of

Three students
to advance to
track and field
championships
YTD
Three GDCI track and.
field athletes will ad-
vance to the Ontario
championships as " a
result of their per-
formances Saturday at
the West Regional meet
held at the University of
Windsor Stadium. -
Debbie Mitchelmore
won the, midget girls 800
metres in competition
with the best runners,
from WOSSA (the London
area), SW,OSSA (the
Essex -Kent region) and
-CWOSSA (the Kitchener,
Guelph, Galt, Brantford
district). Her , time of
-2:27.3 was over four
seconds ahead of the
second place finisher.
Sue Muffitt and Robin
MacDonald will also
advance to the OFSAA
finals, which will be held
Friday and Saturday at
the Etobicoke Centennial
Stadium, with their
performances in the
midget girls discus. Sue
was second at the
regional meet with a
throw of 29.08 metres and
Robin finished third with
a throw of 27.62 metres.
Other GDCI athletes
representing WOSSA at
the Windsor meet were
Joe Melady, who was
seventh in the midget
boys discus; Sandra
Rowe,, who was eighth in
the senior girls shot put;
Mark Rowe, who com-
peted in the junior boys
.discus; Jenny More, who
ran in the senior girls 100
metre hurdles and Rosie
O'Keefe in the midget
girls 100 metres.

Intermediates ates ,gain
victorious opener
with stingy pitching
The Goderich Inter-
mediates made their
debut in the WOAA
league an auspicious one,.
winning the first game of
the season 3-1 over Ripley
here Saturday.
The Intermediates put
together a three -run
offence on nine hits to
back up Xbe stingy pit-
ching effort of Fred
Fellow who stopped
Ripley on six hits across
nine innings. Goderich
scored single runs in the
first, second and sixth
inning to build a 3-0 lead
- and 'dung on as Ripley
managed a single run in
the eighth.
Goderich scored their
first run in the opening
inning as Mike Wildgen
blasted a one -out triple
and scored as Bob
Hnatyk followed with a
triple. Theyscored the
winning run in the second
inning as Pellow nailed a
one -out single and scored
on Bruce Bowman's
double. Bowman was
tagged out- trying to
stretch the hit into a
triple.
They ' added th in-
surance run in the sixth
as Glen Falconer singled,
advanced on an error and
scored on a Fellow single.
Pellow and Hnatyk led
the Intermediate offence
with two hits apiece.
Ripley scored their lone
run in the eighth inning as
the leadoff batter
reached base on an error
and Fellow , allowed
successive singles with
two out.
