Let it be noted that Benjamin Wilson was a CHRISTADE LPHIAN, and was thus biased in his translation of John 1:1 and that he was not a Greek scholar but merely a newspaper editor (not demeaning editors as such). He had n knowledge of the Greek and merely by comparing other versions, created his own. However, what Mr. Barney failed to mention is the fact that in his right hand column he was honest enough to render it "and the Word was God". if iVIr. Barney has a copy of said dialogue, he will be able to see that for himself. There are un- fortunately a lot of do-it- yourselfers around in this world who like to pose as Greek scholars (such as in the case with the Watchtower mistran- slators). Lortest as 'well as frai* Now to be honest Mr. Barney- How in the world can a person correctly render a passage into English or any language for that matter from the Greek, when one has no knowledge of the Greek? Joseph Smith, the Mormon "prophet" also produced his complete "Bible" and he had no knowledge of Greek e' her! ' P, for one, would not put my complete trust in a person who claims to be a Greek scholar but can't read Greek, just as I would not put my life in the hands of a doctor who never studied medicine. I agree with Mr. Barney's statement that "let's be honest as well as frank in discussing God's The Witnesses and their bedfellows, the Unitarians, Christadelphia•ns, etc., will try to escape the condemning evidence of John 1:1 by boldly mistranslating this text in their New World Translation Bible to Church must have spiritual basis for change This year again the annual ,meeting of the Anglican Church Women of Huron Diocese met at St. James Church, London. It was an im- pressive' demonstration of faith ' by over 700 women. The theme of the day was, "And who is my neighbour?" The Reverend Peter Hamel, consultant for the Anglican Church in scientific and Christian_ concerns, spoke movingly of our responsibilities as residents in today's world. As a naturalist and ecologist,, he, began as a bird -watcher in London during the 1950s. He began by saying, "The basis of our concern about social issues has to be a spiritual one. We find out the needs of people and translate our faith into finding ' ways of meeting them. How can we survive unless we include our environment in our concerns? Con- sider that the Bible itself is a most radical book." . He quoted the native people of Canada who say, "We cannot let the white man destroy everything we had before he came". "We must listen to what they are saying. To them, all life is divine. The Verger Inquiry brought out the fact that their struggle is ours. For instance, to them land is an old friend, their life and their hope. Often we exploit the land, use it up, hoard it or deface it. We are a part of creation, not. above it," he said, "Naturally, one great task is to develop as, quickly as possible our ren.e-wable racnllrees and to cure waste. We need to bring about change in people who cause the - problems, beginning with ourselves, and then. by speaking out. Anglicans have been too polite to VrtV 4 r If you re NEW IN TOWN and don't know which way to turn, call the ercornNort,. hostess at 524.9676 You'll be glad you did -b"Tr• protest or we have become shock -proof," he continued. , "A way to begin is to gather ourselves together and talk about the issues, (i.e.) energy, and where it should come from, how to stop exploitation of people and resources - the loss of agricultural land in southwestern Ontario. Find a common ground with all in learning to live within our, means on this planet. We are called to be a presence to others in acting responsihl-y, giving and caring, he concluded. In the words of one of the songs the women sang -"It only takes a spark to get a fire going. That's how it is with God's love". read: "originally t'he Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a God" - 1950 EDITION NWT. Their attempt to reduce Christ to the position of "a gpd," a secondary god, is refuted by the following evidence. In the Watchtower of March 1, 1959, page 150, the J.W.s stoutly maintain that l' -`the one and only true GQd is Jehovah". This is indeed correct. However, since Jehovah is the one and only true God (and the Witnesses have just admitted this), then logically EVERY OTHER GOD EXCEPT JEHOVAH MUST BE A FALSE GOD. We thus see_ that the Witnesses unwittingly make Christ out to 'be false god in John 1:1,by declaring that He is "a god," but., not the God Jehovah. The Witnesses admit that it is im- possible for TWO tr'ue Gods to exist. They. have admitted this by the very fact that the Watchtower has stated: "The one and only true God is Jehovah." Their "a god" theory is further refuted by the fact that Jehovah makes this declaration: "See now that I, even I am He, and there is no God with me". (Deuteronomy 32:39). What does Jehovah say here? He declares, "There is no God with Me". Where, . then did the Watchtower Society ever dig up the teaching that their big God Jehovah has a smaller god called Christ with Him in Heaven? According to this text, there is only one God in Heaven and that one God is Jehovah. There is no such thing as any created lesser god in Heaven as the. Witnesses teach. Those of 'the Wat- chtower persuasion are forced here to accept either one of two things. Either they must believe (as all true Christians do) -that Christ is one with the Father, and is also Jehovah, or else they must believe that Christ is not even "a god". There is no other alter- native. The Witnesses are here caught in their own heretical trap, that they continually are setting for others. Yes, indeed, Mr. Barney, "let's be honest as well as frank in discussing God's Word." Sincerely yours, Daniel D'Haene, Lambeth, Ontario. Cons' derable research done Dear Editor, I would appreciate it very much if you could publish this article on Jehovah's Witnesses and their False Predictions for the End of the World.
