Eedy returned from an 11
day visit to Holland. They
were guests of the
Government of Holland.
While there, they visited
the Canadian War
Cemeteries of Rotten and
Groesbeek and also had
tours to the outdoor
museum of Arnhiem, the
palace at Appledoorn, the
tulip field near
Amsterdam and a trip on
the canals through
Amsterdam. Mr. Eedy
also took part in the
Official March Past at
Nymegen. They were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. L.
Nestland of Hellendoorn.
A well -attended Vegas
night was held Saturday
night at the Agriculture
Hall. Some of the bidding
at the auction went well
aI;' "$7,000" w•as paid for a
provincial ticket and
"$35,000" for a flat of
flowers but everyone
enjoyed themselves. and
helped the birthday
celebration..
Dungannon United
Church
George Cowan spoke on
"Invitation into the
Church" last Sunday
stressing the meaning of
baptism. The choir sang
the anthem, "I Know who
holds Tomorrow." The
children's story was,
"The Little Lost Lamb"
referring to the parable
of the lost sheep and the
hymn, "The Ninety and
Nine".
'The Stewards meet on
Wednesday evening,
Choir practice is on
Thursday evening and an
urgent invitation is ex-
tended to any men who
would care to come,
,especially to prepare for
Father's Day in June.
Next Sunday, May 25,
the . service will be at
Camp Menesetung for the
Dungannon-Ni.1e
congregation.

The Knights of
Columbus of ' St. Peters
Catholic Church received
several awards at a
provincial convention in
Toronto last weekend.
The Knights of
Columbus received two
honorable mention
awards and a Pro -Life
appreciation award.
The local council
received an honorable
mention award in the
Ontario Council corn -
petition for their work
during the year. The
awards are based on a
club's performance
during a one-year period
and the amount of
projects they undertake..
The St. Peters group
also received an
honorable mention , in
category 4 of the bulletin
° competition. The bulletin
was a relatively new
project for the Knights
Auburn plant and bulb sale...

Presbyterian Women's
Missionary Society met
for its May meeting at the
home of Mr's.' Lillian
Letherland. President,
Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson,
was in charge of the
meeting and gave the
Call to Worship followed
by the hymn, "O Master
Let Me Walk With Thee."
After welcoming the
members, the devotional
period was taken by Mrs.
Roy Daer. Her theme
was, "Life in the Spring
Time" and Mrs. Frances
Clark read several
passages of scripture
relating to this theme.
Mrs. Daer gave the
meditation, followed by
prayer.
The roll call was an-
swered by a Bible verse
containing . the word,
spring.
that was initiated by
Gaeten Jacques in the
last year.
The Pro -Life ap-
preciation award was
presented in appreciation
for the ' Knights. in-
volvement in the 'Buy a
rose save a life program'.
Close to 200 Knights
groups were represented
at the annual provincial
convention . held' at the
Royal York Hotel.
Frances Clark gave the,
financial statement and
the offering was received
by Mrs. Clark and
dedicated with prayer by
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock.
The Mission Study was
on • the life of- Mrs.
Catherine McMullen and
the work that she and her
husband, Clarence do in
India. She had been the
special missionary
speaker at the Hamilton
and London Synodical
held recently at Brant -

Mrs. Bradnock gave,
the highlights of.the
conference and also the
Huron Presbyterial held
• at Goderich that day. •
The meeting was closed
with the hymn, "0 Lord
of Heaven, Earth and
Sea" and the benediction.
Lunch was served by
Mrs. ,Letherland.
Mrs. Daer gave a
reading, "Let Us Make a
Garden". The hymn,
"God Moves in a.
Mysterious Way", was
read in unison.

approved as read by the
secretary, Mrs. Lillian

On Monday and
Thursday, May 12 and 15,
Constable Bill Hassall,
O.P.P., came to
Brookside to give a
demonstration on Farm
Safety. -He showed it to
Grade K to 4 on Monday
and Grades 5-8 on
Thursday. First he had.
the classes together in the
gym for a film and later
he spoke to each class
separately. The film was
presented by War
Amputations and showed
children who had lost
limbs in farm accidents
and how they were
learning to cope with
their handicaps.
On Thursday, May 15,
Rooms 3 and 4 went on a
bus trip to the Science
Centre in Toronto ac-
rompanied 'by their
teachers and some
parents. They reported a
very enjoyable and
worthwhile day and the
bus was back at the
school before 6p.m.
The Student Council at
Brookside arranged a
"Greaser Day" for
Friday when the students
were to come dressed as
in the fifties with hair
slicked back, etc.
The students are
practising for their
events for Field Day
which is scheduled for
Thursday, May 22,
weather'permitting.
