Fishers even record
with weekend split
Fisber Builders evened
their record at two wins
sand two losses with their
second split in Industrial
League Softball action.

Sunset hosts field day

The weather has been
fairly cooperative for the
first two weeks of golf
and' it looks like everyone
is in good condition for
the season ahead.
Men's Night Results:
Low gross, Tony Bedard
Sr.; Low net, Ron
Bushell. First Flight
winners, Bob McDougall,
Tony • Bedard Jr., Bob
Greer and. Randy Miller.
Second Flight winners,
Tim O'Brien, Ralph
Kingswell, Marty
Buchanan and Bill
Brown. Third Flight
winners, Vic Powell, Bill
Chisholm, Mel Bogie and
Coley McDonagh.
Men's Field Day will be
held Sunday, May 25. Tee
off time is 9-10. 18 holes of
golf will be played with
brunch to follow.
Members, guests and
green fees are welcome.
Ladies' Night May 8th,
only six girls braved the
rather cool tem-
peratures, but were all
efforts. Second Flight
wingers were Marj Smith
and Mary Lynne Telford;
Third flight, Betty
Helesic and Rocky
Whalen;' Fourth Flight
Evy McDonagh and
Bunny LeBlanc.
May 15th, our second
regular- golf night was
great weatherwise and it
was nice to see more girls
out. First Flight winners
were Della Bedard and
Shirley Baechler; Second
Flight, Joyce Bolton,
Thora McCabe, Marj
Smith; Third Flight,
Betty Helesic and Rocky
Whalen with Fourth
Flight going to Bunny
LeBlanc, Betty Fuller
and Dorothy Bogie.
The next two weeks,
Ladies Night will host
'guest night', May 2.2nd
and May 29th. May 29th is
Food Night - so all golfers
please be ready to golf at
5:30 as it will be a shotgun
start.
On Victoria Day a very
successful Two -Ball was
played and apparently no
awarded points for their one got lost in:the fog. The
Bridge Club scores
Mary Donnelly and
Eleanor Erskine com-
bined for a point total of
1181/2, tQ take top spot in
the North-South section of
play at the May 20
meeting of the Goderich
Bridge Club. There were
10 tables in play.
Gord Rutledge and
Rick, Sommers were
second with 1121/2 and
Susan White and Bill
Cochrane were third with
Bill Bradley and A.
Weerasooriya were first
• in the East-West side with
119 points while auleen
Currie and Louise
Hetherington followed
with 114.

Last Wednesday
Fishers dropped a 7-1
,decision to Lakeport Steel
and Monday they
rebounded with a 4-2 win
over Ziebart for their
second win of the cam-
paign.
Brian MacKenzie was a
wrecking crew_ in the
game Wednesday con-
necting for a two -run
homer in the first inning
and adding a run -scoring
triple in the sixth as
Lakeport rolled to an
easy 7-1 win.
The Steelers scored
four times in the top of
the first ina rally capped
by MacKenzie's two -run
blast They_ad.ded tingle
runs in the fifth, sixth and
seventh innings.
MacKenzie,. . Tim
McLean and Ron Miller
had two. hits to pace the
Steeler 11 -hit attack.
Fishers managed only
six hits off MacKenzie
and . struck for their only
run in the fifth inning.
Jack MacKinnon led off
the fifth with a triple and
scored on Doug Fisher's
single.
Fishers rebounded with
a 4-2 win over Ziebart
Monday on ttie strength
of MacKinnons three -run
homer in the sixth.
Fisher trailed 2-0 after
four innings and didn't
have a hit through four
innings. ' They put
together two singles in
the fifth .that scored
Wally Pierson with the
first run. MacKinnon took
care of the rest with a
three -run shot in the sixth
scoring John Hoy and
Jim Bill.
Ziebart had led 2-0 after
four innings with runs by
Al Sygroye and Simon
Langlois.
John Verway picked up
the win for Fisher
.allowing two runs on just
five hits while striking
out five. Langlois gave up
four runs on six hits and
struck out seven batters.
Ziebart wil play Green
and Parent Sunday at 4
p.m. and Fisher returns
to action against Canada
Company at 8.30 p.m.
In the other Wednesday
game the McGee P.on-
-dacs put toge-ther-'three
singles and an error in
scoring three times in the
third inning to shade
Ziebart 3-2.
The Pontiacs put the
rally together with two
out as Doug Spitzig led off
with a single, Paul Kelly
reached base on an error
and Rick Sowerby and
Ken Vanderburg hit back
to back singles to drive in
the runs.
Ziebart managed only
two runs on five hits off
Ken Daer, scoring once in
the first inning and again
in the fourth. Langlois
doubled to score Sygrove
for the first Ziebart run
and a •Len Kolkma'n
double scored Langlois
with the second run.
Paul Kelly led the
McGee seven -hit attack
with two triples in four at
bats. Langlois had two
hits for Ziebart and was
tagged with the loss.
Intermediate mien.
play here Saturday
Intermediate Men's
fastball will make an
appearance in Goderich
this Saturday after a
lengthy absence.
This Saturday at 8 p.m.
the newly formed
Goderich intermediate
team will play an
exhibition game against
the Wingham BPs at
Agriculture Park. The
league schedule has not
been released • but
Goderich will play teams
in the Ripley, Lucknow
and Walton area.
Goderich played in a
rain delayed tournament
in Strathroy last weekend
and lost their opening
game by a close 2-0 count
to the host 'team,
Strathroy.
The teams played
through six scoreless
innings before Strathroy
broke the game open with
a two -run rally. Goderich
played errorless ball and
had bas runners every
inning but were unable to
push across a run.
The Strathroy tour-
nament was rained out
and Goderich will play in
the consolation round this
weekend.

tournament at Agriculture Park on the weekend
that included a delegation from Bay city, Michigan.

Turner double scores winning run
Phil Turner doubled in
the sixth inning to score
George Sutton with the
winning run as French
shaded Gords Sports 5-4
in Industrial League
action Monday.
Gords led the game 3-0
with a three -run outburst
in the second inning but
French responded with a
four -run rally in the third
to hold a 4-3 lead.
That lead stood • until
the sixth when Turner
doubled to score Sutton
and give French a 5-3
lead. Gords-threatened in
their final at bat as Bob
Riehl "doubledto score
Andy. Moore with one out
but he was left stranded.
French scored their
five runs on just five hits,
one of them a. two -run
homer by 'Sutton in. the
four -run fourth inning.
Sutton also added a single
and scored two runs.
Gords got to Don
Mc Whinney for 10 hits but
produced only four runs.
Andy Moore and Riehl
had two hits apiece for
Gords.
In other action Mon-
day, Green and Parent
got a pair of run -scoring
doubles from Brian
Rumig as they tripped
Hotel Bedofrd 6-4.
Rumig' doubled in the
second inning and added
another in the third as
Green and Parent scored
three times in the second
inning and twice in the
third en rout to the vic-
tory. Dennis. Miskie and
Chip Wilson also had two
hits for the Thunderbirds.
Terry Austin provided
most of the Bedford of-
fence with a run -scoring
double in the second
inning and a two -run
homer in the fourth.
In the other Monday.
game, Glen Tigert
fashioned a neat two -
hitter as Canada Com-
pany belted Lakeport 7-1.
The Company struck
for three runs in the first
and third innings and
added a single in the sixth
on a Torn O'Keefe homer
to record the victory.
Tigert and Casey
Wildgen led the Com-
pany's seven -hit attack
with two hits apiece.
Lakeport scored their
only run in the first inning
as leadoff batter Tim
McLean singled and
scored on errors. The
only other hit allowed by
Tigert was a seventh
inning single by Carmen
Fielder.
